during the summertime i picked up the same mower. Granted mine still has almost new looking paint. Ive been slowly working on it and this vidio gave me so much insight. Mine orginally had a 3 speed transacxle and a 11hp briggs but i have a 5 speed and a 20hp v twin ready to be put in. This helped me so much visioning how ima lower it.
keep the axle in that piece of angle iron when welding it that way it will stay realatively straight the welderzs heat can spread and warp the other weld s and ruin them sacraficing strength and making it wonky
personally i do a grease and gera oil mix in my transaxles makes it a little easier for the transaxle to turn and still provides great lubrication as it isnt just flung away form the gears as it drips back down
yes your correct in what your thinking having the drum brake like that youll get a better brakeing force and the other way it has a high risk of gettting ripperd around and broken
This is awesome! Also have you ever watched “my custom go cart”. There doing a very similar project and keep up the great work and I can see you being the next great RUclipsr.
Oh yea his John Deere is what originally got me hooked on wanting to build a mower. Pretty sure their Murray and mine are the same model. Thx for the encouragement it means a lot hope you stick around I got lots of content coming!
I really want to do an off-road mower just on the look out for the right mower. I haven’t decided if I want to lift the Deere, Statesmen, or find another. Stay tuned I’ll definitely be lifting a mower.
Glad your liking the episodes! The welder I use in the video is around $400 you can get a cheap flux core at harbor freight for about $150. I used one for years before I got this one.
anything possible man ive got a old industrial welder handed dow to me by a family freind as long as you know how to use them most will work greta mines over 40 years old
Things comin along great! Love the way you mounted the transaxle with the stock mounts but flipped, never though of that. I've got the same Murray that im turning into a rat rod mower. Its a similar petina on it and it's awesome to see someone doing the same thing. Keep it up you earned a new subscriber. 👍🤙
@@goodtimesgarage I'm getting pretty close to done, I have a twin cam Kohler in it rn but it's got issues so I might try and throw a briggs 11 horse in it but we will see. I have vids on my channel. Can't wait for part 4!
I stopped at 9:50 to mention that you pull the brake band in the direction of rotation because the grip multiplies the braking. The other way it forces to band apart lessening the brake power.
17:21 ive got3 original brigs starters at home allof them came on the mowers and only one out of the three were plastic i think its for less powerful engines and in the early 90s most came fitted with metal ones depending on budjet etc
personally i woulhave lowered the seat for a even lower look and more stable feel when driving the fenders also are bigger up your sides and stop you falling off
Not gonna lie the brake took some engineering hopefully when you see it, it helps. Buying belts for the mower now! Next episode should be out this week.
You sure got some nice ankles there. Sure hate to see that handheld pyrana getya. Lol jk your tougher than I am . Always Wear pants when welding n grinding. Great show
The #s on Briggs engines, "model-type-code", if I said them in the right sequence, the first two 2#s of the code, is the year of the engine. If original engine, that should tell you the year of the mower.
I believe the teeth count is different between the steel and plastic? I also believe engines (briggs) anyways, have either plastic starter gear and steel ring gear or steel starter gear and plastic ring gear. This is so miner damage if something binds, not broken crank, case blows out, where starter mounts or total starter blowup.
Yea the more I look at it I’m really not sure if I’ll make it out of my gravel driveway lol. Gonna have to be a 100% street machine until I do a mini rebuild. BTW just got a 15 hp engine to drop in a future update.
No not yet, I’m working on episode 4 of the mower now. Should be done this week. Also thx for all your advice and info with the mower, it really does help.
Let’s gooooo can’t wait for episode 4
It’s getting done working on it now!

You know what, that makes sense.
Dude you got to put the patina fenders on that's what makes the mower come on man
lol, yea fenders might have to go on in the future. Just gotta find some cheap sheet metal.
sick build
Thx!

That plastic piece really did puzzle me. Just got the new one put on and it will be in episode 4.
personally i woulhave lowered the seat for a even lower look and more stable feel when driving the fenders also are bigger up your sides and stop you falling off
Im ready to see how you set your brake up, thats the only thing i dont have yet, i just down shift to slow down/stop
Not gonna lie the brake took some engineering hopefully when you see it, it helps. Buying belts for the mower now! Next episode should be out this week.
You just cleaned the trans axle then fill it back up with weld splatter 😂
When I was editing I literally thought somebody’s gonna notice me doing this roflmao, I was so tired I didn’t even think about it in the moment lol.
You sure got some nice ankles there. Sure hate to see that handheld pyrana getya. Lol jk your tougher than I am . Always Wear pants when welding n grinding. Great show
lol, not gonna lie I burned a lot during the making of this.
@@goodtimesgarage lmao I'm sure you lost some fuz
That's for sure photos make a great reference 😊
Gotta have photos I forget everything!

I didn’t know that, I’ll go take a look.
damn it looked tiny at @7:40
Lol
Nice Work! Where did you get the brake setup?
Amazon just search brake drum kit bunch of options I paid about $25

Ohh that would make sense
too low for me to be ripping off road i try to keep it 2 inchs at a min because where i ride its very bumpy

What length bolt did you use on the front wheel
