    To the topic at 9:10 I did choose an aussie, because they have a focus person. If you are lucky they have two focus people. It comes with the breed (herding) … even when my dog plays with others and I walk out of sight (not training recall) at some point, he get panic about not seeing me anymore and everything else doesnt matter until he finds me again.

    That should be your new signature sign out statement every time! Winner. Also Id love to see a video with Angelica how she found Indie and trained her to be less nervous. If I remember she was a more timid rescue situation.

    Some breeds are definitely more obedient to their owners! I have a Shiba inu and have really struggled with his stubbornness, despite doing a lot of training. He’s 10 months now and has just started to get the hang of recall maybe 25-50% of the time when outside 😅 which we’re super proud of since it was 0% before.

    Very informative. We just rescued a 4 year old from a horrible breeder. She was neglected, left outside and was forced to breed. She was and is still a little timid but is adjusting well and is a constant attention/love seeker.

    Some tips for off-leash control for anyone who needs it:
    Play the "Touch" game (hold kibble in your closed fist, when the dog boops throw it somewhere for them to gather, do that for 5 minutes after going off-leash and before going on-leash again, and maybe when they're starting to get ahead too much) and randomly ask your dogs for commands in a fun way or play tug and reward them. Makes you sooo interesting. Also; random turns into different directions. Don't let the dog predict too much where you'll be going, they'll hover around you more then. If they get out of sight, recall. They'll search for a moment until they realize where you are and will pay more attention in the future.
    Also, hand-feed every single kibble you have during the day and use those as treats. "Throwing it away" into a bowl is a bit of a waste, especially with puppies. There's always stuff to train and practice. And if your dog is toy-motivated, carry a tug toy with you (ball on a string or smth) and reward them with that. Works like magic, especially with reactive dogs

    I belong to some Aussie groups. Many hard core Aussie folks insist there isn’t a mini Aussie. There is an AKC American shepherd which won best in herd group last year at Westminster. My mini isn’t papered. That wasn’t how he was presented. Alas, I love him. Who cares. I’m getting a puppy as Jasper approaches his second birthday. Pair of mini boys. Jazzy is a small blue merle mini. Malibu will be bigger. He’s the most mellow puppy. He’s a black tri with blue eyes. We live in SoCal. The beach is the center of the universe. Jazzy is the best dog.

      @FrankieToTheMoon  2 года назад +1

      So what I did and i definitely don’t recommend it. But I just started walking away. Frankie did that once and he thought it was a game so I stopped trying to get him and I stopped giving him attention. He immediately stopped and came to me because he wasn’t getting what we wanted and I just wanted away. (I was in an enclosed park)

      We also do the same with our 5 months old malinois. If he does not pay attention to us off leash, I’ll start walking the other direction and will positively reinforce once he comes to me. I’m super-duper excited if he comes. But we always do it in a safe environment.

    • @lynnloehr1566
      @lynnloehr1566 2 года назад

      He is not ready for off leash then. Go back to a lunge line and only reward when he comes. Don't let him off lead until he has that impulse control. We have two mini's one does very well. The younger one is a lot more hyper and has less control. We have been working on this for over a year and she is just now starting to be allowed off lead because she comes when you call her 99% of the time now. But seriously we have been working on this a long time! She loves people and she is just a social dog. The other one is more like Indie and is very attached to me and won't venture to far. Your 9 month old is stull very full of puppy. Keep at it!

  • @uberfu

    I've seen other breeds handle the recall rather naturally as well: Poodles / Airedales and Cocker Spaniels. Thena gain I've also seen these same breeds ignore people completely, including Aussies. I'd say less to breed specific and mroeso to probably the owner/ owner confidence. Dogs tend to have a 6th sense regarding how people interact with them - they know the differnce betweena dog lover and someone who simply bought a dog.

    I love your channel. My dog Flynn has been going to doggie day camp for a year and there is a new employee that he bit according to the camp it broke the skin, so we were in quarantine for 10 days. I have him in behavioral class. We have not started yet. They use e collar what is your opinion of that training method? He is very attached to me does not even like it when my husband sits next to me on the couch. I adopted him about a week before my husband came home rom traveling. He is mostly mini golden retriever, but his personality is 100% Australian Shepherd. How do you get him to play with a ball or toy he will not have anything to do with either one. Any advice?

    • @FrankieToTheMoon
      @FrankieToTheMoon  2 года назад

      There is a lot to unpack here! I have never used that type of collar so I can't truly have an opinion on them! And as for the ball or toys, every time Frankie wants to play with me, I would always pull out a toy to teach him that I am not the play toy, he has objects for that! And now he grabs a toy when he wants to play

      All decent breederdo tons of health and DNA tests, there's no chihuahuas in their family tree unless you're going to some dodgy backyard breeder.
      If you've got a smaller dog , funny enough you're going to have small dog features unless you breed for heavy bone , I've seen toys that by photo you wouldn't have a clue how tall they are.
      I've seen toys, minis, standards in the same litter as genetics can be weird like that , at the end of the day the only difference is they're measured by height.
      Originally Australian shepherds were never big dogs, show breeding has its own agenda, your working dog Vs show dog isn't going to look the same.
      It's funny how many close minded people there are in some Australian shepherd sects, perhaps you should look up the photos of the founding dogs of your breed and you'll see they're much more of a mini size nor are they drowning in ridculous coat.
