I love that they are both phonics based with activities even though they use a different approach!!! We prefer a phonics approach but we don’t mind sight words as long as it’s taught later on but one concept at a time!!! My older kids had to learn sight words and still learning to break them down at times apart from my 16 year old!!! We kept AAR at home but travel with the readers!!! My kids felt pushed so we tried something else!!! My 16 year old reads the readers for extra practice!!!
This is so amazing! I haven't watched your channel before but this was so well done I immediately subscribed. I think I know the direction I want to go with my first grader now 🙂 Now I just have to figure out writing for my third grader. I don't feel like she is quite ready your IEW but the PAL writing is geared for K-2. Does IEW have an in between program?
Been waiting for this one! Really appreciate you creating this video. It's super helpful with the side by side and including the time commitment (noting that the writing does extend the PALs). For reading comprehension purposes, which program would you say is more helpful?
Hi! Would you think starting with PAL, then moving on to AAR would work well? I have both from years ago (but never made it very far w my now 9yo). We are now starting my newly 5yo, and I'm not sure what to do. Debating between using PAL because we have it, or dishing out more $$ to buy AAR Pre-Reading instead 😵💫 we also have HOP books floating around, and I clearly have too many options lol
I think it would be a lot to do both fully BUT you could do AAR fully and add in components of PAL like the games and the writhing program bc that works on copy work, spelling, etc
After completing IEW’s Primary Arts of Language (PAL) reading program, the next steps depend on your child's reading mastery. If your student has mastered reading skills, you can transition from learning to read to reading to learn by introducing rich literature and additional language arts components such as grammar, spelling, and writing. If your child hasn't mastered reading, consider reviewing challenging concepts or progressing to higher levels of All About Reading for further review and mastery.
Pal is a two year program and can be started between K-2nd greade and AAR is not grade specific but often ranges between K-4th depending on how your child progresses and when you start

Love how you have adapted curriculum to fit your families needs

They both do a good job but I probably prefer AAR for reading comprehension as long as you follow the cues in the teacher book during the lessons
Thanks for sharing your insight!
Have you ever paired the between the two programs where you match the letters between the to programs
I have not personally although we do still like to play the games from time to time

I definitely think it could work at lest the beginning lessons with PAL before starting AAR 1
Hi!! Thank you❤
You are so welcome
Would you think it would be absolutely too much to do both AAR and PAL simultaneously?

I really appreciate this video 💕! Would you say All About Reading is similar to Abeka's reading/Phonics curriculum?
I have never used Abekas reading/phonics so I’m not sure
What do you recommend after PAL?

What ages are these recommended for?
