- In this video, we show how we fix some bad erosion issues with our hunting access roads. We us the Kubota MX5800 and a box scraper as well as hired a bull dozer. We show some ways to fix and prevent dirt road erosion from happening
I have a 300 acre place with a lot of the same issues. However, I do not have a tractor. I do not have a bulldozer. I do not know how to operate a bulldozer. What I have is a side by side similar to yours, two sledge hammers, and a pile of rock. I'm 60. Heart doc says "keep it up, it's good excersice".
In the Forest Service we called those Coweeta dips. You can't let the water run down the road for any distance.
Enjoy the videos! Please keep them coming. Water bars on this road will eliminate most, if not all, of your erosion issues. The rule of thumb is to install a water bar at the base of the slope and then put the next one at eye level above the previous water bar as you work your way up the slope of the road. Good luck and keep us posted on how things are holding up after the spring rains.

My steep hill is a little different. It’s cut into a hill so I have banks going up on each side. Basically making my road a river. On top of that it’s clay and shaded. Stays wet constantly.
Takes time to get the erosion figured out. We still struggle with some sections of our roads too.
Timber Time, I just bought a hunting/cabin/off grid 33 acre property in Oklahoma and the road is the first thing I have to get fixed so that I can have access with a vehicle. How much do these type of jobs typically run for so that I can shop around for reasonable prices? Thanks!
It really depends on the excavator. We use a retired guy and he is really inexpesive.

I just bought a off grid property up in northern maine and I have the same problem. The price i was quoted was 3000. Thats to fix 1429.5 ' of gravel road in front of our property and install a gravel driveway with a pad . Thats a really good deal. Most want alot more than that. Definitely get several quotes would be my suggestion.
I hear that taking the road less traveled makes all the difference.
How is the road holding up?
Good so far but we didn't get any super bad rains yet. We will in the spring. I think its fixed for good this time.
