- Hey paisanos! The Super Mario Bros Movie is here and in order to celebrate I brewed up a beer inspired by the classic video games. Using ingredients that reference the Mario games and one special ingredient to boost this NEIPA to the next level!

Recipe for 2.5 gals (9.5L):
-4.6 gals (17L) Water

~8 LBS [3.8 KG] of Grains
-70% Pilsner
-18% White Wheat
-12% Flaked Oats
-1 LB (454g) Chanterelle mushrooms

-0.75oz (21g) Warrior @30 mins
-1oz (28g) Mosiac @175°F Whirlpool for 10 mins
-1oz (28g) Galaxy @175°F Whirlpool for 10 mins

-Lallemand Verdant IPA
______________________
Mash @ 154ºF (67ºC) for about 45 mins
Boil for 30 mins
______________________
Ferment around 67ºF (~19C) for 10 Days
Add chanterelles during day 2 of fermentation

Final Gravity: 1.015
ABV: 6.2%
IBUs: ~45

The hop is written mosiac all over the video. And on the website it's Mosaic (because it has a mosaic of aromas)... About the whirlpool hops: too few hops. About the mushrooms: they were not pasteurized before putting in the beer. I am surprised it did not lead to an infection...
Nah the fermentation was so active I wasn’t concerned about infection

Lactarius Camphoratus, better known as curry milk cap or candy cap is said to have a maple syrup flavour.
Unfortunately I have never been able to buy some to use in a mead. But I have seen people use it in all kind of brews and dishes. Even in candy.
All mushrooms are edible. Some only once. ☠ 🤪
I thought for sure you were going to use fuggle to help bring out the earthiness of the mushrooms. Fun brew for sure.

@@AlbeeSoaring good thinking! I have WLP300 in my bank but honestly it’s pretty inconsistent. I know you’re supposed to underpitch it but for whatever reason I never really know what I’m going to get out of it
@@GREEENZO I have found for the omega ones that they do best when stressed. Ill normally ferment them at the high limit of the yeast and at points push it just past for a little bit. Thats when they seem to really give off the flavors stated. I figured this out with the Sundew the batch I did mid temp range didnt give off much fruity flavors. The one I pushed high gave off tons of fruity flavors. I did a brown ale with the bananza and fermented it the whole time 1 degree past its specified range and wow did the banana pop.
@@AlbeeSoaring awesome thanks for the tips man! Probably going to try WLP300 one more time just because I have it, but I’ll definitely stress it out. I’ll underpitch, I won’t oxygenate much, and I’ll ferment warm. Wish me luck!

I didnt care for the mario show so much bad had to watch it cause of my little brother. The live action movie was good but they could do it so much better now. I was hoping this mario movie wasnt going to be cartoon but hey its still a mario movie.

@TheBruSho I'm making it as we speak. My pear cider has just finished primary, and I'm going to leave it on secondary for about 1 month, then I will add the tequila and bottle carbonate, I can't wait.
From what I understand the original script for the 1993 Super Mario Bros movie was something that both actors Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo was the reason they signed on the project. Unfortunately the producers decided to have the script rewritten to the piece of rotten turnip that both actors were under contact to be in and could not get out it. According to the documentary I had watched both actors were absolutely hammered during most of the production of the film and did not give their best performances in the movie on purpose.
I also heard Hoskins didn’t know it was a video game until half way through filming
