I'm a mom of 3, almost 40, and finally know what I want to be when I grow up! I'm currently a master's student getting my MAT degree so I can teach elementary grades. Your videos have been SO helpful to me to make what I'm reading about in classes REAL. They have also helped clarify a lot of things for me!!! Thank you! Also, my youngest is moving into 1st grade and is still very basic and choppy with his reading. I can't wait to use these tips with him this summer to try and improve his fluency!
Also important that the words in the books they are reading, that they have patterns/ rules that you have previously introduced. Decodables can help them build up confidence as they read. Sometimes a given level has words that they are not familiar with or has not been a spelling pattern you have yet to introduced. Flyleaf decodables are an awesome resource and are free online! I also agree with using poetry. I make a poetry packet for each month and we read one new poem during the week.
I love watching your weekly videos and incorporating all of your resources in literacy and math! I used a lot of the math games last year during distance learning last spring and they were all a hit. I cannot wait to incorporate some of these ideas in reading with fluency this year. Your videos are so easy to follow along and helpful. You are one of only a few teachers I subscribe to. -A fellow Massachusetts teacher :)
I teach 2-3 grade students now. The term 1, the concept is about POEM. Sometimes i have lack off acitivity for teaching the poem. Because in one class i have 3 levels ( 3 tierings). One tiering has minimum 2 menus (must be different acitivities). In a subject i must make 6 different menus for all of the tierings. 😭😎 From your explanation, it is very helpful. Thanks a lot sister. 😎🙏 I hope you can give us Tips and more example of acitivities for students, so he/she can apply the concept to his/her real life from surrounding. 😵🤒🥰
I'm literally so baffled of how informative this was absolutely amazing and I've never been so indepthly taught reading fluency and I'm just so thankful! ou so much for this like literally thank you so much because it really benefited me and it hits that question when parents say "why is my child giving the same book?" thank you!!!
Hello! I would like to know more about your book bins. What does that look like? How do kids use them? Do you have videos of you in the classroom working with your kiddos? Thank you for your videos!
Thank you for your help. I volunteer at an orphanage in the Philippines once per week. We help the kids with their reading skills (btw, English is taught in schools here & most Filipinos know English 😮 😊) and we get assigned one child to help. My issue is that the kid I get regularly assigned gets fussy & doesn’t want to read. His regular teacher during the week says he has problems with his reading in class. I know kids naturally shift in their attention span, but I’m such a rookie and I’ve gotten a “talkin’ to” by the program coordinator. Help!
Hi Susan. I got the digital cvc activity. I put it in Seesaw, but the activity contains all of the passages. How do I separate them so I can only assign 1 of them, not all? I can't wait to use them!!
If your child is old enough to read at a level high enough, encourage them to turn on the subtitle script function with their TV shows, etcetera. Join them in doing so. Also, encourage them to practice running their finger under the hard copy line they’re reading (books, etc.). This will discourage eye regressions and will soon double reading speeds and improves comprehension. This is step one from the Evelyn Wood speed reading school.
Hi Suzan. Your videos are very interesting. Great tips! How can I access the "Beginners Readers Comprehension Checks" to use in my Google classroom please?

I have a question please. How would they read the poetry if it has words they didn't learn yet?
