    Best tutorial I found after looking for a while. Such a big help. The only problem is my receiver solder points are much closer together and in a very hard to reach place, much harder than my soldering skills can master. But Your video did give me the answers I was looking for. Especially the length of shielding to be removed and also that you need to solder the shielding on. The other video I just watched totally ignored both of those points and just said you need to use the same length of wire as the old antenna. (impossible for me as I don't have a the full piece of the old wire, it's in a field somewhere. lol). My only regret is not watching this first as I paid a premium for a replacement cable from a model shop when I could have butchered one of the many old routers/laptops.computers I have lying around... Lesson learned... Thanks a bunch though and I'm going to try the repair. The receiver is no use without an antenna so paying £5 for a wire is pennies compared to paying £70 for a new receiver.

    Man! Thank you!!! Son's metal piece of his antenna broke off when he was with a friend. Instead of replacing a 40.00 reciever I spent 5 minutes in the garage and his range is completely restored! Thanks again!

    Awesome! Just fixed my MERV's antenna after having watched this, and saved some bucks on not having to buy a new Rx, as my local dealer suggested. Range is as it initially was out of the box.
    Took this opportunity to also roll upp the antenna length inside the Rx-box and only have a stump sticking out. There will be no more broken antennas now.
    Again, awesome video, thanks Justin!

    One big thing is technical terms LOL good sense of humor brother LOL great video cheers. I was told you can't fix the antenna on a 2.4 gigahertz. I guess it's them trying to sell me their radio. This helped me out a lot thanks.

    top of the line ...thank you so much for ur video, so does the total length of the Antena wire make a difference? and if not, why is it so long?

      Glad this old ass video is still helping people. I want to get back into posting but I've been working 60+ hour weeks for the last year and a half. It is hard to find time to record.

      @@ramrod126 I like older videos because half the time you're working on something that's 3 or 4 years old and you don't want to see the brand new versions of things. The first time I fixed it it didn't work because I strip the insulation but forgot to take off the shielding. Duh. After that it worked great. Been having a blast with my four-wheel drive brushless Stampede in the snow here lately. I'll have a lot more fun now of course they can go farther than 15 feet away from me. If you don't mind my asking what do you do for a living that is taking up 60 plus hours a week?

    Just wanted to add a couple of things. First, when creating your "antenna" end, don't remove the shield, pull it back around the cable and put a piece of heat shrink on it. the ground should be as long as the stripped internal wire. next. after the soldering job, always check with a meter to ensure the leads are not grounding. good luck

    Taranis Rx antenna "bare wire length" is 26mm? I copied this and it works as well as original?? is this shorter than theoretical length due to variance for type of coax??

    Hello! I have an S8R reciever from FrSky. After one of the antennas was cuting from a prop, the RF-signal was not good anymore. But I have the another original one. And that is 35mm. So I took broken antennas of my Laptop Wifi-card. And cut the isolation like original of FrSky Reciever to 35mm. Without better signal.
    At the week I've bought new 150mm antennas for my reciever. And the unisolated end of it was 34mm on both new antennas. Should i try to unsolate the 34 to 35mm. And then maybe cuting it of a half or 1mm away, till i have a good signal?
    I want just have a good rf-signal ahgain, and make nice flights.
    But why is it so different about the unisolated part of the antennas? I think it would be name monopole. Cause it's defently not a dipole.

    Thanks helped me fix mine. You were also saying how you waterproof your receiver? Do you have a video on that?

    • @ramrod126
      @ramrod126  9 лет назад +1

      Don Armstrong Unfortunately I do not have a video for that. If I ever get some equipment back (camera, RC stuff, etc...) I will be sure to make a video. It is pretty easy to do though. I used liquid electrical tape and just brushed several coats on both sides of the circuit board. Just make sure it is well covered. Plati-dip works well too. Both can be found at your local hardware store.

    if I want a longer antenna on a rx that has no connector like that, do i just unsolder the blob to get the old wire off and then solder the new wire on that blob? It's just one connection? Thanks.

    Let me see if I'm right: The length of the antenna WITH the shield doesn't matter. The important length is this slice of antenna WITHOUT the shield protector: 123mm? (or a 1/2: (61,5mm) or a 1/4: (30,7mm)? I'm right?
    Today I cut from the root my antenna from RadioLink R9D 2.4Ghz 9-Ch S.Bus Receiver and now I need to fix it.

  • @artest7

    You said, "if the shield and the centre wire touches, it becomes one big thing and won't work?" Well, I'm doing this on a Traxxas #6519 board and noticed that both solder pads (centre and ground) are touching! I checked it with a multimeter. So, it doesn't make a difference if they are touching.

    I have a 2.4 GHZ quad copter TX that I wanted to do an antenna mod on. The stock antenna on the board was just an insulated 3.125 cm length of wire soldered to a spot on the circuit board labeled "ANT". There was no ground just that length of insulated wire. If I solder a 6.5 or 12.5 cm length of center portion of antenna wire stripped of shield to this point, should it work okay?

    Hi Can you let me know the length of the new antenna wire.. , is it matter or the end point of the wire 31.25mm is the "Key".. Length of the new antenna wire is not matter?

    • @ramrod126
      @ramrod126  9 лет назад +1

      Ken C The overall length doesn't matter too much. The stripped part is the key.

      It makes it a sleeved dipole which has approximately a 3 dB (double the sensitivity) over a sinple monopole (the inner core on its own)
