Good morning everyone! As discussed in this vlog, I'd love to know your favourite or most used sewing tool? Please write it in the comments or even share a link!
Thank you for saluting Nancy Zieman - a fellow Wisconsinite. She is definitely someone in the sewing world worthy of recognition. Her televised shows still run on public television here because she was a great teacher.
Sadly, my best sewing tool is a really good stitch ripper. I don't go wrong too often, but if I do, this stitch ripper (bought on Amazon) is absolutely invaluable! Thanks for showing us your lovely garden, and for all your videos.
I think that dress is a perfect example of a great pattern and fabric pairing. Love love love it! My favourite tool in my limited sewing kit is my homemade clapper. It really does help set a hem or seam allowance when ironing.
My favourite sewing "tool" - oh thats easy. I nice cuppa watching Kristen's channel! Love all you do for us, your sage words, your smile and your inspiration. xx
The new thread will be a game changer for me. Thank you so much Kristen for letting us know about it and trying it out. I have sewn my own clothes for many decades, but only used woven fabrics. I love the Frankie dress you made, and I feel excited to be planning to make some Frankie tunics. I love long sleeved tees but this style will be a lot more flattering on me - fitted top, longer and looser at the hips. I have seen stretch velvet versions online as well as casual ones. Can't wait to get going. Thank you, you've done it again!
Nancy seaman was such a wonderful person and had a sweet outlook on life. She is missed by many. Her husband has a store open now that is a walk-in store or shopping is online. They are going to put a memorial to Nancy up on the second floor of the building and also the two sisters that worked for her now have the videos like Nancy used to have and they are all working together. It's not as big as what Nancy had before but it is a beautiful layout and they have wonderful fabrics and notions.
Hi there, I have a limited space to sew. I love sewing and it helps me to de-stress from daily life. My favorite thing that is helpful are my small pair of scissors. They are 5 inches in length with ends that are good for snipping. Love them, use them for every sewing project. I enjoy watching your videos. I really like the patterns you share with everyone. Thank you for promoting others in the sewing community. Wishing you many blessing. Happy sewing. - Lola
Off to order the Maraflex thread. I’ve never been keen on the Lightening Stitch. It’s so slow! One of my favourite tools is my Tailor’s Awl. I use it on every make. It’s so handy for holding fabric straight as it stitches, especially stretchy fabric and woven fabric that doesn’t behave. Always enjoy your videos and your garden is beautiful. The spring blossom is gorgeous.
Kristen, thank you, I totally understand how sewing can be therapeutic. I lost my mum last year during COVID lockdowns, sewing and gardening has helped me in my times of sadness. I'm in my happy place when I sew. As for my most used sewing tool...it most definitely is my seam ripper...lol, I even have a number of different sizes. Love your platform, always look forwad to your volgs. Happy sewing xx
Oh Kim I am so sorry to hear that you lost your mum especially with the terrible time with lockdowns. I really hope you got to spend a little time with her at the end. So heartbreaking :(
Hi Kristen .I really love your dress!Such a simple pattern and the fabric makes it look so versatile and very comfy. It suits you very much.I have an Elna tsp metal sewing machine which is about 46 yrs old and goes like new .Its made in Switzerland and is quite small but I wouldn't want to get rid of it as I love it to death! My favourite sewing tool is actually my pinking shear scissors as these are handy for the seams inside the garmet instead of using an overlocker.I do find dresses and shirts I make look so much better than the shops.Sorry to hear you had that face like you had shingles. So glad you you recovered as one of my sons recently had shingles on his leg and his leg felt like it was numb however he recovered very quick.I love watching your videos. They really make my week!
Yes, that was me that told you about Nancy's bodkin!! I love that tool. I used to watch her show on P.B.S. I also love those silicon bobbin holders. I have different colors for different bobbins. I also love (& have several) doubled sided small squarish seam gauge by Dritz. That stretch thread looks interesting!! So many patterns, so little time.....
hi Kristen, can't wait to try the Maraflex thread. My most used sewing tool is the Hemline sewing and measuring gauge with 14 different imperial measurements in one unit. I wore it out and need to buy a new one. At less than $3 Aus it is such an affordable tool as well! I bought the Simflex expanding sewing gauge and have used it only once in 2 years and also the Prym loop turning set which I have never used and thought I would! 😄
I have just had my first AO patterns done by Megan Nielsen. I'm waiting on them now. My favourite sewing aid is my seam ripper!. I have several as they go AWOL! I also love my pressing ham and my wooden pressing clapper. Great for heavy woollens.
I just love that Nerida Hansen fabric. I'm really enjoying Tessutti patterns at the moment and have made up a few myself. What a lovely chatty video. I remember you talking about Bell's Palsey before it must have been such a scary time for you. Life is always throwing us curve balls but I agree sewing is so important as a stress relief and a way to heal. Thank goodness for sewing!
Hi Kristen. Weft and Warp in Canberra print out A0 patterns. I have a number of sewing tools that I love. I love my Clover 'Hot Hemmer', my Prym sewing gauge, and my pressing tools too.
Hi Kristen, a super inspiring video - thank you and God bless. My fav tools are mundial Serra sharp dressmaking scissors purchased about 30 years ago plus a sewing and knitting gauge which is probably the same vintage. The scissors have a serrated edge and still cut beautifully after all these years. I also have a very old pfaff sewing machine and I think I will try your idea of threading it up with Maraflex thread. Your dress is very flattering and I would love to know how you go about adapting a long sleeve to a short sleeve. I have never been game to try this as I always though a long sleeve was too narrow to convert. I love watching your videos and watch each and every one of them as they are posted. 🌸🌸
Gorgeous flowers! Love your dress , I wasn’t sure about that fabric when I saw it online but it looks gorgeous on you . A bit of a marimekko vibe , nice to see you again, Bridget
My favourite tool was left handed scissors, but twelve months ago I smashed my left wrist so can’t use them. So now my favourite ones are spring form scissors that I can use left or righted which is a bit scary to times especially around curves. Wrist is still a work in progress.
Oh yes I defently take life pretty casual especially now I've got to go through a short course of chemo then radiation and just had surgury to remove cancer in breast ,so life for me is lots of fun stuff eg..sewing which I love and other crafts and getting lots of couch time and cuddles from my cats and my 2 great Danes ❤️ ,i love doing gardening but my knee ( waiting on surgury for that) gives me a hard time, so sewing is my time out I have to look into those earnings they are gorgeous 😍 happy sewing and living life to the fullest ❤️ love watching your videos its like havin a friend over for a cuppa and chat 🍵🧁
Oh and I havnt really got a fav tool as such but my clippers probably are my number 1 I use them as a unpicked as well a snipping threads ,oh and I have to order some of that new thread I always have trouble getting the stitch flat on the twin needle ...
Yes I have lots of trouble 👿 uploading patterns to office works. Hit and miss if it works. Picked up a click and collect pattern and took in my other patterns on a usb. They could print them within a hour.
Beautiful , though to add this I tried my ruffler one day since then I have watched various demo's of women's clothing being made with ruffles in seam lines, and on necklines. Fun to see, make
Just a heads up - Kwaint Threads do AO printing and they were very helpful in responding with pricing. I also get Shelley to do my printing but as you said she is laid up after her surgery and I was lucky to just get mine done. I think Maii Designs also provide pattern printing.
Thanks for the info on the Maraflex thread. How did you wind your bobbin, did you do it differently, or the same as non-stretch threads? Thanks in advance, and love your new dress ❤️
Not that I know of. Just exactly the same! I always cool/warm delicate machine wash my me made garments and I never tumble dry. I think it extends the life of the garment. Thanks for watching xx
Hi Kristen, cannot wait for the new box release, I have set an alarm so I don’t miss out. When I purchase the box are you able to add an order to it? I started a RUclips channel yesterday, would love if you could take a look and give me any tips and hints. Thanks for your channel, Deb
Hi Deb, are you in Australia? If so then you can add to your order as long as it is under 5kg at no extra cost. If you are overseas I will need to adjust the shipping cost depending on the weight. Very happy to do that as I can send an invoice for the difference ❤️👍
I'm working on healing. I lost my mother in May and my father in law just passed away this month. I also lost my best friend in 2019 and my step mother in law in 2020. We still have my father and my husband's biological father left.
I feel for you having lost my husband, younger sister and parents in the last couple of years grieving never ends for the people you love ,you just learn to adjust your life and keep going to live your life, sewing does help to keep you busy sending best wishes xx

Great video Kristen! My Mom taught me to sew & we watched Nancy together. 💞memories 💞 All those tips and tricks still come to mind at 65! Thanks
Oh thats such a lovely memory xx

My favorite little sewing tool is my measuring gauge! It’s small so I’m very careful with it so it doesn’t get lost.

It's so pretty!
Megan Nielsen does A0 printing but I haven't used them yet. And worst luck my most used tool is a seam ripper - I have a few stashed around
Far and away, fav tool is magnetic pin cushion.
I love the earrings, fabulous
Thanks Deb xx

I found one of the clip tools made by clover notions on the US Amazon.
My favourite tool is a good pair of sharp scissors.
No issues with Office Works printing, I popped my patterns on a USB and headed off to Office Works.
Oh you’re lucky! I’ve been trying online like I usually do and no luck! Unfortunately my nearest is a 40 minute drive away!
@@thedahliasewciety oh poop! Shelly is always my first go to but I know she is healing at the moment.
Thanks for the info on the Maraflex thread. How did you wind your bobbin, did you do it differently, or the same as non-stretch threads? Thanks in advance, and love your new dress ❤️
Hi Elizabeth, it’s just wound the same as a regular thread bobbin. So easy!
Kristen wondering if there's any special washing or drying instructions for the Maraflex thread. Great chat! Thx Cheryl Canada
Not that I know of. Just exactly the same! I always cool/warm delicate machine wash my me made garments and I never tumble dry. I think it extends the life of the garment. Thanks for watching xx
Definitely the magnetic pin cushion, oh also wonder clips, and maybe I should include my thread snips…🤣🤣
Fav tool is a Thwang. Is anyone familiar with this little miracle ?
