I'm so glad that I found your art channel Because I bought two things of plaster for a party I was trying to make some big paint brushes but that didn't work out as planned. So today I'm going to get some plastic cups and see what I can carve with it😊
Wow. I want to cry. Idk if I'll be able to do this. I amateur paint 2D abstract geometric patterns and tribal motifs and I want to bring them to life, so I'm sitting here avoiding my Plaster of Paris and my blocks of terracotta/ivory clays but I will try. 🎨✍👩🔧👩🎨
Such an informative video.. thank you!! Looking at putting together this project for a homeschool group. Would the plaster be too hard to carve if it was left in the mold for a week? Certainly the ease of carving while softer is ideal.. just considering best options for timing. Thank you!
I think a week would make it pretty hard to carve. But if you use extra water and it’s wrapped up and stored in a cabinet, maybe not! I feel like the results are different every time 🤣 And thank you!!
Omg this is absolutely stunning and amazing sculpture it looks very fantastic and with great details love your unique creation! Great technique! Enjoyed watching it fully! Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you! I used a rubric with a variety of components. Things like organic abstraction, use of negative space, percentage carved (demonstration of subtractive technique) in the round, etc. I’ll have to dig out my rubric to be sure! 🤣
This is a great video. Thanks for taking the time to make it! I remember doing this in art class when I was a kid. We had to mix the plaster and everything. I have wanted to try doing this again. I know there are different types of plaster. Can you confirm this is plaster of paris (I think it's also known as gypsum plaster).
@@ThatArtTeacher Thank you! I'm feeling so inspired to try this again. I attempted sculpting a squirrel in school (Grade 6) with plaster. It didn't go so well (my lack of talent). LOL. After seeing your video I'm reinvigorated to try the squirrel again. ❤️😁

Nice. I've not tried carving plaster. Just finished playing with epoxy clay, which was fun. Great video, and yes rather long. LOL! 😍
