I am going by what the Yamaha website says. If you want to say that their official website is wrong, take it up with Yamaha, but that's where I got my info from, and it does identify the PAC311MS as a Mike Stern model. No, it does not have SD pickups or solid ash body, just like the PRS Santana SE does not have the same specs or features as the US made Santana models, but it is still a Santana model, just the entry level version. The 311MS is the entry level version of the 1511MS.
I realize this is a four year old comment, but I gotta chip in: this was an entry level Mike Stern model (hence the MS) and it is still sold as this on the 2. hand market even in Japan.. so you were right. Have no clue what people are on about in this comments field..
It is a discontinued model, so that might be why you can't find it on the current product page, but Yamaha's website respectfully disagrees. If you go to usa.yamaha.com and type "pac311ms" into the search box located in the upper right side of the webpage, the first result will show that this is indeed the entry level Mike Stern model.
Hmm. The USA Yamaha products page features a (discontinued) PAC311MS guitar with the description, "The Mike Stern signature model features classic looks and popular features." I also thought the 1511MS/1611MS were the only Mike Stern sig models, but if Yamaha says the 311 is as well -- I guess I can't argue with that.
Great Demo. Nice sounding tele copy methinks ! I have a little Roland Micro cube amp too and I think for what they are, they sound great ! Especially as they have a 1/4 jack line out which when put through a big pa system, don't sound too bad at all :0)
But "what's in a name". I'll just refer to it as the orange pacifica. The orange pacifica is a great guitar, especially for the price at which they can be had. I loved the feel and sound of this orange pacifica. The only reason I reluctantly parted with it is the 1 5/8" nut width, which makes the string spacing in open position to tight for my fat fingertips. I encourage anyone considering this model to pull the trigger if you can handle narrow nut widths.
one other thing that excludes the guitar here is that its orange , the mike sterns are always natural .. still a very good guitar thou , and i personally like the one you have of the 311 model pacificas best , ye i like the maple fretboard (ms) but i only own the rosewood (s) . :)
Nice vid! Great playing too!! Once I've seen this model at a kind of guitar pawn shop here in South America. It was beautifull, totally overpriced though. It seems Yamaha is not longer doing this model, couldn't find at their website. Do u know any US store that has this model and ship to Brazil? thx
they are really good at this price range yep ill agree to that totally , beats up any squier anyday and the mics are actually quite good even thou they are not seymour duncans .. and its so much more than a tele ofcourse with those mics.. i also have to ask if you are swedish ?! :) you have avery Swedish name hehe i såna fall får du ha det så gött !!
if the ms doesn't stand for Mike Stern, how do you explain this? usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/guitars-basses/el-guitars/pacifica/pac311ms/?mode=model
sounds great!! but there is something fishy going on here; that guitar is no mike stern signature model, actually there is no 311 mike stern model, you could call it a copy of it but Mike stern has nothing to do with it, if the guitar is named 311ms . the m stands for maple and nothing else, no mean to upset you or anything but the Mike Sterns always have genuine SD mics & control plates for the knobs etc, the model nr on the Mike Stern from this time was 1511ms . great guitar anyway thou. /.R
actually you´re totally wrong! no control plate and no seymour duncan 1*59 and 1 * SD hotrail in the bridge = no signature model, simple as that, dl the brochure about the 311ms on the page you refer to, its all in there . its easy to think that ms always stands for mike stern but no its not! in this case it stands for maple neck and 311s for rosewood, both 311s and 311ms are made in alder (laminated ash) the mike stern is in solid ash and was called PAC1511ms at that time , also discontinued.
This model was always advertised as an entry level Mike Stern model and is intact still sold as this in the second hand market.. even in domestic/Japanese websites it is described as a Mike Stern model.
Holy crap that's my guitar and I didn't know it could do that!!!! Excellent review and awesome playing. Thanks fellas
I have that same amp and they really are incredible! There’s nothing low quality about those Roland Micro Cubes!
I have one like this and I am really happy with. Good guitar and can handle many different styles. Love it
Good guitar player especially on the clean sounds

Whoa! cool "Giant Steps" playing 1:45
It was never a mike stern model when it was a current product, the mike stern was based off this shape. The MS means Maple fingerboard, Singlecut .
Ps, still a nice guitar, especially for the money,i have the natural finish one, paid about £240 for it i think brand new
the 311 is not the mike stern model! s or ms!
Doesn't stand for Mike Stern dipshit.

definitelly the mike stern model is the 1511 and now the 1611. 311 are sweet guitars but not hes model
MS mean "Mapple neck Single cut" from Yamaha
at this 311 series.
Mike Stern only at 15&1611 series.
I think the user mistake thinking, not from brand.

sound really good
Absolutely. Right on the money.
I just bought this same guitar at Guitar Center in Matthews. I guess you traded it in? I really like it.

I wanted to play this guitar but now it seems quite a step.
are you selling it?
guitarist is great! thats a nice lookin guitar.. a remember when they were blowing them out in the MF catalog
not a Mike Stern at all. All Mike Stern are all natural... nice try though
