I've gigged with the Joyo American and thought it did a great job. I was able to carry my Strat, an over drive, the Joyo and reverb all in my gig bag. So, for a light weight, easy set up/tear down simple rig you can't beat it with a stick.
There are several versions of the Joyo pedals out there. I got Horse branded versions of the four main Pedals (American, British, California, and AC Tone) for $20 each.
I've been using a Joyo American Sound as my "always on" pedal in my gigging setup for the past 5 years. It serves as my preamp running it into either a tube power amp or a clean solidstate amp. Ironically the drive pedals I'm running into it cost 4 times as much. I could have saved a couple hundred dollars and just bought a second Joyo American pedal for the dirt sounds. It's that good!
I just got a Mooer polyphonic pitch shift pedal. less than half the price of the Digitech Drop and for 1/2 step down it sounds pretty damn good. My only issue is that there is a bit of a delay between hitting the note and hearing it, really more of a "feel' thing than actually audible, but the same can be said when I'm using my Variax running alternate tunings too. One of these days the latency on these devices will get to the point where these things won't be noticeable at all.
And don't forget these are clones of the first-generation Tech 21 SansAmp Character series pedals! These pedals (and the Tech 21 stuff) punch way, way, WAY above their price tag. I have the AC Tone, American Sound, and British Sound pedals and use them as pedal platforms. Mondays are for AC Tone, Tuesdays American Sound, etc. 😉 They sound very similar set surgically clean, though some really wonderful things happen when you put delays and reverbs after them and crank up the gain to a little less than halfway. The way they react to volume changes, pick attack, and of course different drives in front is amazing at any price point.
Hey, Chad. Do you run the Joyo directly to the PA or does it need to be pushed by an amp to sound through the PA? Because I see nothing but a good sounding amp-modeling device that’s no rip-off at all.
Thanks!! It's the line 6 jtv 59 Variax. It doesn't modeling of dozens of different guitars. There is a playlist on my channel talking about Variax if you want to check it out.
This is very cool and is a great low budget analog unit. That said, I think it is very limiting in what it can do. My Fly Rig can do so much more then again though, it's also around 4 times the price. For 40 dollars this really is pretty cool. You realy can't beat it for the price. 11:3513:06
The funny thing is this is pretty much a knock off of the tech21 signature pedals. For sure the fly rig is a more complete package. I'm a big fan of the fly rig,and I think the version 2 upgrades were pretty significant. I ordered this pedal purely out of curiosity as to what a $40 pedal would sound like. For what it is I'm blown away. You would definitely need to add to it to make a complete rig. However I was thinking about it and using it for recorded tones straight into an audio interface is a pretty big value proposition. You wouldn't need lots of features or flexibility. Just dial in the tone you need and add additional effects in post. Not a standalone rig by any means, but for $40 I think I'll keep it lying around the studio if that "just in case" moment ever pops up 😉
This one is pretty noisy if the gain is pushed all the way up, but at moderate levels it's pretty quiet all things considered. If I had it on a board I'd use a noise gate, but that's pretty much universal. I always use a noise get on my Helix patches to cut out hiss and noise.
Glad you liked the tone 🙂 It's a line 6 Variax guitar, so what you're hearing is a digital model of a strat neck. And for the bridge position it is a strat body with a p90. The magnetic pickups on the guitar weren't used at all during the demo. If you're not familiar with the Variax I have lots of videos on my channel about them. Love the Variax!

Great Playing! You've got really good feel... I'll be back for more. cool pedals too!

You can run it directly to a PA or powered speaker just as you could an amp modeling device.
Hey what model guitar is that? Great review!

Which loop are you going to use to run that thru the Helix????? :) :)
If anything it'll go into the extra pouch of my helix backpack as a back up at a gig 😂
@@ChadHuskey I could tell that thing was getting to you. 👍
I had the AC Tone. Sonded great but too noisey. Cheap components.

it's better to tune the guitar, isn't it?
Your neck pickup is the best sounding neck humbucker i've ever heard. What is your secret there?
Glad you liked the tone 🙂

@@ChadHuskey That Explains it! I'm mildly familiar with the variax, just haven't seen that one. Need to watch those videos. Sounds great!
