If you get an aquarium heater with an external temperature probe just leave the probe out of the water. Then the temperature controller can decide when the heater turns off instead of the built in thermostat.

I guess you can try doing that, provided the probe is somewhere near the top of the heater.

I can't find a heater without a thermostat anywhere. Where did you get yours from? Thanks!
