I actually agree, now i haven't seen every movie made last year, but i gave Past Lives 10/10 without hesitating, which is very very rare for me. It's such a well crafted masterpiece that hit all the right notes. Some times less is more, and this movie is probably one of the best examples of that.

Best Lead Actress Golden Globe nomination for “Past Lives,” Greta Lee -she deserves to win it and win it big!!!! The lesson in this film is this "A mind is a terrible thing to waste" is a well-known slogan of the UNCF, used to raise awareness about the importance of education and the arts and the potential that is lost when individuals do not have access to quality education. When individuals (like the chilhood love) do not have the opportunity to develop his intellectual abilities and talents like the main character, it is a loss not only for them (and his childhood love) but also for society as a whole. It emphasizes the value of education and the need to ensure that everyone has the chance to reach their full potential. When her childhood love said to her in the movie: "I'm just an ordinary guy" And there is a scene in the movie that depicted this- where he as a young child walks on the horizontal street and simultaneously she walks up on an incline of stairs. This scene was showing us that educational arts and educations (elevates our mindset and capabilities) is what really separate people more than distances. An not having opportunity (to educate yourself in arts and education) makes you ordinary or gives you a conventional mindset where the sky is not the limit in opportunities. So , if he (the childhood love) was not denied a rich artful education like the main characters parents gave her. Both her and her childhood love is a victims of their unequal childhood environments. In addition ,when ,the main character asked her childhood love to come to New York (when they were in their early 20's when both( at that time) did not have any romantic attachments but themselves). If her childhood love would have had parents like she did that was able to give him a cosmopolitan education he most likely would have never said "I'm going to China-where there was little opportunity to grow" because he would have been so cultivated in the arts and in education that he would known the value of coming in America versus China at that time (and even today in most cases). Also , it would have been his arts and educational background to allow him to take advantage of that opportunity that New york provided over China. And this is what it meant: "A mind is a terrible thing to waste" And I know this from experience (over and over and over again). If my mom didn't cultivate us like the main character parents did. I would not be be a computer engineer today. And many of my siblings would not have master degrees. This hiddnen plain sight idea in this “Past Lives,” Greta Lee movie really broke my heart. Thank you for waking us up!!!!

Greta knows this and she has the grace not to name who were not in their best behavior. Hope she gets an oscar nomination in a few hours. Go Greta!
