- Talofa ALL! Thank you for taking the opportunity to view this video. I must be honest, this video was actually not supposed to be posted to the public as it was for a class and was private. Due to my lack of understanding of the operations of RUclips at the time (lol), I accidentally posted it for all. I hadn't realized this until I was notified by my sister several months afterward when my nephew found the video. I decided not to take the video down as I've seen that it has been somewhat informative for many. If you have found the video to obtain some flaws in your opinion, whether it be the contents of the speech itself or my appearance, I apologize and hope that you will forgive and understand my amateur performance as I am a student and simply human.
I encourage you all, whether you are Polynesian yourself or simply interested in the Samoan Islands, to continue to explore the cultures and learn about the beauty of these islands. There is a special union in the lives of the people of the Islands of Samoa and of Polynesia. Join us and welcome to our community!
Best wishes,
Maletina
i was born in Lakewook,California but at 5yrs old my parents took us kids back to tonga n im glad i grew up on the island learnt many survival skills that 99% kids in USA dont know..and im glad i learnt how to respect elders how to plant n live off the land..im half samoan by the way through my mom..and our traditions are very similar as in respect..i hope islanders overseas never forget your roots..stay in shape n always be polite n respectful to others..
I'm in Lakewood, CA right now, Born in long Beach. I'm Filipino/Mexican.
i wish i grew up in the islands
Beautiful, you are mistaken, us Virgin Islsnd and Puerto Rico belong to USA, and born citizens, only Samoan don't born citizens, PR, and US Virgin have the land part of USA even though the local government is commonwealth, but still land that belong to USA and burn citizen so they are 100 us Americans..
Im mixed Samoan and Hispanic. I grew up in the e mainland but thanks to my dads Ecuadorian indigenous I learnt a lot about survival I have noticed the cultures aren’t that far apart from my mothers side
Yeah that 1% is 🇹🇴! Lol 😂
I’m not Samoan but with the Chamorro culture we have similarities with home and reasons as to why I moved out or my families as well! One thing we can all agree on is that THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME! Home is where the heart it! This video was amazing thank you for sharing
Kelvilyn Toves Oh foreal?
Guam would be awesome, if all the trash and appliances were cleaned up.. You go along the roads and behind every tree line is tons of trash, garbage bags, fridges, car batteries, tires, wrecked vehicles etc. I mean tons of it!. Who does that!? It's a shame.
Oh shi hafa adai I’m a toves to ❤️🤙🏾
@Marcus Nez yuck fuckn weirdo
Damn Kels u fine island girl hmu
I am a Palagi who spent 110 days in American and Western Samoa. I am looking forward to returning so that we can implement much needed water solutions....lower kilowatt costs....fresh vegetable growing and much more. I live in Cleveland, Ohio and had it up to my ears with all the cry babies here. Walk a mile in Samoan shoes and see what real life and living is all about. It is time to make the Samoan Islands a destination equal to or better than Fiji.
Manuia Samoa!
Are their a lot of Samoans in Ohio?
Oh my goodnessss “why are so small” i receive all the time. Although I’m only partly Samoan
Really are u mix
@Jenny Tran HAHAHAHAHA!

@@YehoshuahLamberti you can become US citizen if you want too.
Brilliant. Thank you.
We recently learned my wife is half samoan.
We see the traits in our children and want to learn more.
It's been hard to find information that you have given us today.
Thank you.
Thank you for making this video. I'm white and Samoan mix. Much of the Samoan culture is a mystery to me, since I more white than Samoan, but my physical traits favor more the Samoan. I'm 6'2" and 448 lbs currently (working on it). I have always had a draw to the ocean. I watch a lot of videos on RUclips and want to visit Hawai'i and America Samoa one day. Thank you again for sharing, you're very beautiful.

Keep at it Uso! The way we can eat plus the way we can work makes us BEASTS! Eat big but work bigger when you hit them weights! Find local sport activities as well and join in! Much Alofas Uso!
You're very welcome! Keep working hard. It's in our blood to work hard no matter what we do. Hope you get a chance to visit the islands and engage with your family roots. You'll find that you'll be nothing by loved by your community. Best of luck with all.

Man, I watched this for my school project, but actually learned more than just the samoan lifestyle, the whole stereotype of samoans through the world! THANX!
Very Insightful, your clear description of life as a Somoa person; the cultural depiction of being in the homeland and in North America painted a very clear picture. Thank you for sharing and enlightening!
I'm Greek American and frequently go back to Greece in the island of Crete I just love ur energy n how u talk 😁idk carry on
FINALLY someone who knows how to pronounce "samoa" correctly. seki
Umm she's Samoan lol
I would hope so seeing as she's Samoan! Lol 🤣

Iska waran bro, I am Samoan but grew up with many Somalis here in NZ. I love Somalis, very hospitable people.
@@ITSAGIRRAFE1 Waan fiicanahay saaxiib. Adi iska waran?😂 I hope to visit Samoa this year.
Very informative, i'm Tuvaluan/Kiribati but my wife is half Samoan and this is a nice explanation.
samoan struggles everything we do is really important to our family that's why we struggle to go out with ur friends or sleep overs with ur friends because of that it's something about family or something else but as Samoans love our parents that's why and if that give u a hiding it is because that love u and don't want u to go and do bad's things or come home late but it's life but I am proud to be a Samoa

Trini accent is 😊
Im trini too huss 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹
ANAJI LEWIS, why would you want to visit another tropical island when you are from one? If I were you, I'd visit Europe and Africa first and other big places vastly different from tropical islands.

im young and was adopted from America Samoa when i was one 🇼🇸 , i tell my friends that im from there they all asking were it is so i have to just tell them "near hawaii" even tho it isn't. Soon i will go back to america samoa when im older. This video help me with my vision of america samoa. Thanks!
I am glad this video could help. I hope to continue to add more soon. I have an uncle who was also adopted from the islands but is definitely very Samoan haha. Hope you get a chance to go visit and obtain your own vision! Good luck.
I had 4 adopted nephews last name launiu from Masefau
The Samoan islands are divided into two groups:
🇦🇸American Samoa (inclusive of Tutuila & Manua Islands) and 🇼🇸Samoa - or the Independent State of Samoa (Savaii, Upolu, Manono, Apolima & 6 other islands). The "Western" was dropped in 1997.
I still call home , Western Samoa :)
Actually Three groups not two
Tikeri Asailevai what's the third group?
D Misa lol American Samoans are from Eastern Samoa and Western Samoans are from Samoa 🤗
Charleston Chan Ming, that's disrespectful. They dropped the "Western" part, and they wish that you respect that. Show some respect. Or at least refer to the country as Independent Samoa, which is a part of the full official name (Independent State of Samoa). Samoa has asked many to respect its name change, yet you people are so slow to get it.
Waoooh, nothing to apologize for... Home is Home and that is the gift nobody can give you. I really amazing because I thought Samoa was just one of the state or province in a country never knew it's a NATION of its Own... Nice One to you all Samoan.... Look forward to visiting the beautiful Country
I was fortunate enough to be able to spend some time on American Samoa in '09. Changed forever, in a very, very good way. What an amazing place, amazing group of people, and an amazing culture.
Happy Samoan Language Week🙌🏽🇼🇸 Alofa Aku🙌🏽
Hi Tina, I was just scanning through youtube and found this video of yours. Then I had to load it so I can watch what you have there about the island. Wow! I am not surprise about you talking about your life on the island. It feels like yesterday when you mention your upbringing and how your mom works just to provide for your family while your dad was in the mainland doing the same thing. Also, your story makes me think back about the memories we made during our 5th and 6th grade back home. It's good to hear that you are doing well these days. Alofa atu mo oe ma le aiga atoa.
Hi Salevu! It is good to hear from you and hope you are doing well. We sure did have a wonderful childhood together. All my love!
Wow. I watched your video out of curiosity to see if what I suspected life in Samoa would be like was correct- to my surprise I was 100% correct. Not Samoan myself but I like and respect the cultural ways of Samoans. It’s something I think many Americans could learn from. 😁👍🏻
LOL at all these desperate guys.
Hey thanks for this. I have a friend that moved to Samoan when he retired. He's African American and his wife is Samoan. I had so Many questions and you covered all of them. I intend to visit them ( they keep inviting me) and its good to know a few things before I visit.
well your friend made a big mistake movin there wit his girl🤣 he a broke nigga now fr fr
Interesting
Oh my gosh, I’m so interested. I wish you had more videos🤙🏼
Sooooooo I’m a native Washingtonian and I would love to learn more about the Samoan culture and what daily life is like on the island. I dated a Samoan for a short while and he taught me so little but I want to learn about it all. I hope to one day make it to the island and explore its natural beauty and hopefully get to know the locals and the culture intimately..... maybe some of you lovely people could help and point me to the start line?
Nat N, you're an American, it's an American territory... You're free to go there.
Your just a basic white girl.
You are very thoughtful and articulate. I myself was born and raised in Hawaii, and spent by college years in Iowa. I appreciate both cultures, although I returned to Hawaii. I still travel extensively to the mainland Midwest.
No matter where your from and the questions and inquiries ....Maletina your gorgeous ....
Being a Polynesian/Native American I deal with the same questions and negativity from outsiders.
You are absolutely gorgeous don't sweat these ignorant ppl.
Samoans are most beautiful people on earth . I like Samoan people .
She's beautiful 😍
My mum is from Apia. been in New Zealand for more than 40 years. She stopped school at 12 and looked after her nieces and nephews. I've only been to Samoa once and would love to go again to see more of it. I am a type 1 diabetic too and my doctor said it is most likely related to my Samoan heritage!
Best of luck.
Amazing. I learned so much
I dont question people as to why they wold leave a beautiful place for rainy Seattle (im here too in Seattle) because hard times are everywhere along with the beautiful ones. Dont know how this came across my recommended videos. My daughter is Afakasi her moms family is from American Samoa I see the beauty in how close the family is and am so glad they have such a tight family here that is a safety net for my daughter as she grows. She is strong and beautiful inside and out.
I hope we
are related lol my family on my grandma's side is from manu'a. love the video sis. and your so beautiful
Tyler Mauga sole... whats up! she's my baby sister!
Chill both of you. She's my wife
david vaatofu are you sure? Thn I guess we've been fooled by the same girl....
Lol, despite the fact that I live on the opposite side of the world as you, I also grew up with these same questions (mostly asked by people from the uk who weren't even citizens but just permanent residents), and it used to irritate me a lot when I was younger because although I'm ethnically predominantly Samoan, I was born and raised in New Zealand and people often expected me to be a "certain way" or whatever their perceived idea of what a Samoan person was. Some of the more insulting comments were: "why aren't you as dark as other Samoans?" or "why do you speak really good English?" etc. Most of the time I was more kiwi than the people asking the questions but oh well, that's ignorance for you.
The last time I was in the islands I was four years old, now 20+ years later I'm finally going back for a visit and your description of life there has made me more excited than I already was.
What hasn't been mentioned is the concept of TIME🤣🤣🤣🤣.
I only recently visited Samoa in the past year. Spent 3 months in total and one thing I noticed is they have a lot of time. When driving through the villages I saw a lot of people sitting by the road or in their fales.
Whenever we arranged a gathering or meeting it always started 2 or 3 hours later, ie. Samoa time.
mojoe jojo lol everyone's chilled😂😂😂
r u the english & lions player mojo
Good Informative video...should also do a video on accommodation , cost of living etc.
Thanks

Western Samoa is much better though , my parents are from there . Pops from Lepea & Mom from Vaiala , both villages are in Apia , Upolu .

Joesph Jucctan ----- American Samoa is a unincorporated territory of the U.S. , meaning they are nationals . not citizens of the U.S. & Western/Independent Samoa (my homeland) is a Independent country .................. Malo !
I never been to Samoa but thanx for sharing what it is and how life is in Samoa CHEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHOOOO! !!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello from Israel, sis...You are a stunning beauty, thanks for your enlightening and special video. Peace to all of you there. How costly a life gets there for a local due to a remote location and limited resources? Thanks dear. All the best, Sir Isaacson
What are the odds of landing a job as a teacher/ bank teller/ or even at the McDonald’s in American Samoa? I’m mexican American n I want to move there but am honesty trying to research odds of job availability. Random I know but I just seperate fromMy husband (Samoan in New Zealand) and my brain really wants to go back to life on an island but where I’m a citizen. I didn’t apply for residency just had work visas... but I’m American so thinking fast on this idea. Hope that someone can lend kind input
Christina Gurrola, you can get a job there. It's been a while, so I don't have much of an idea as to how much they pay. But I think you could do better if you are on contract as a teacher.
Christina, applying for a job there is no different than applying for a job in the United States, so as long as your an American. You don't need a work visa. That would be awesome for you to teach in American Samoa. If you are catholic, there is a catholic high school for girls and another for boys, or the public schools. Keep me posted:)
Why !!!!
Are you a US citizen? If you are, you don't need a visa.
That's right, the relevant life lessons/survival skills/longevity can not be thaught to them who can pick up anything at the store at anytime.. that's why there's no balance with nature and we're killing it
I was born in America Samoa too. I'm from this beautiful village taputimu
I'd love to marry a Samoa woman y'all are beautiful
You will not only marrying a beautiful Samoan woman, but the whole beautiful family of hers....
Love this young ladys resolve. What a great representation of Samoan woman.
Talofa, I enjoyed your Video today!!! Take care for now.
samoan women are flippin beautiful
I live around the corner from one cousin and live up the street from my cousin dad and great uncle. On my grandmother hometown we have our own street for the family. So I understand.
I seriously get the Somalia thing A LOT! I just end up saying yes because after the third time of trying to correct them, that's it. Lol
Samoan Island is badass peoples place
I was in Apia racing outriggers I'm from North of Seattle. I'm Native American and loved being in Samoa. I would go back any day
I am 450lbs...my last name is Pouvi Fata I am a half breed afakasi. I was abandoned by my abusive father. I feel no need to go to Apia but I want my Pe'a tatau...I am a violent disgruntled combat veteran. I bow to no man nor would I be excepting of others doing to myself. I just talked to my uncle but I know all that glitters is not gold.My older sister wants to go but I've spent my life building my hands to lift me up. Because my blood line I apparently want for nothing.... my sister wants it and I do not. From my point of view I need more input as well as hers. Where my sister and I truly stand in the hierarchy and what's expected of us on arrival and what I would have to do or kill for my pe'a.
Very well explained Maletina
Thank you. Best wishes
I remember my young age, growing up my 30 wearing size 9, people always asked me the same question. Now I'm 62 with thyroid problem wearing size 14 or 16 is miserable.

Idk why I ended up here but I do wish saying "i'm from Dallas, TX" was a sufficient answer to people who ask me where I'm from.

Love my island girls
I gotta laugh at the "You're small for a Samoan". No one ever says that to me. If you met me, you would understand why. I like her speech though. She's right. She also makes me wish I could visit the islands once in my life. Well said, young lady, and very well spoken in English for someone native to the islands.
Hi! Thank you for your comment. Honestly, it does not matter what we look like. The social construct in the world is that we should look at what is popular. As long as we are true to ourselves loyal to values, we'll be happy. Be strong! I hope you do get a chance to go back one day. I have the same goals.
Yes, you are so right. It should not matter what we look like, nor should it matter what is popular. Unfortunately, it does and is especially true in the western world. My advice would be the same to you. Stay strong! As long as we stay true to ourselves, to quote something smart I once heard, everything else means nothing. Thank you.
They always say Somalia instead of Samoa😂😂 it kills me and also I get mistaken as a Hispanic here so I just go by that I'm tired correcting people 💀
And I do understand a little bit of Spanish to tell them I can't speak fluently lol
U look Latina
Samoan Alphabet we're from Spanish Alphabet back in the days
Here is a Somali guy. Greetings from Somalia🇸🇴😂😂
I wish i can visit Samoa someday!

Awesome video, very informative. Ashamed to say that I don't know much about the islands. However, I'm now interested because of Tulsi Gabbard. According to Google, she's from American Samoa and a representative from Howai. I wish I could meet with you. You're not only beautiful, but I'm sure you're also extremely intelligent; the video shows that. Wish you all the best.
Wow she is like a brown version of pipa Wetzel my mum is from lakahanga in cook Islands and my grandpa taputu is from maqusis islands French Polynesia but she can be my Samoan lady any day
Pippa Wetzel??? in what way?
