    I was a CEO of a small service corporation. I know how challenging finding and keeping quality employees. You said in your video you wish you could clone yourself. If you cloned yourself you wouldn't work for you, you'd start your own business. My solution to this problem was profit sharing for every employee who met agreed goals. They then had a vested interest instead of just punching a clock.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  9 месяцев назад +1

      I've thought about that...we surveyed another business of ours and the employees didn't even want to do it...so, I haven't considered it here.

    • @mttrapper
      @mttrapper 9 месяцев назад +5

      The employees didn't want extra income? I didn't make profit sharing inlieu of salary, I made it in addition to salary. I found out quickly my FTEs who were doing most of the work got on board and those who were just punching a clock didn't want anything to do with being held to a higher standard. It turned out to be a great asset when I interviewed potential employees. The ones who just wanted to trade hours in the building for a paycheck stood out and made tossing their application in the trash easy.

    OK my two cents is most people are not getting paid enough a lot of times when you find quality help you’ve gotta pay them top dollar for instance for my part-time hay help I pay $30 an hour when you find somebody who is a member of your tribe - i.e. same work ethic values like hard work You have to pay them in order for them to afford to live in the high inflation rates we have right now I always have help. A lot of people can’t find help. There is a lot to be said about paying top dollar for somebody that will produce twice as much as what an ordinary person. People with poor work skills. It doesn’t matter how much you pay them they still won’t work.

      @@GoodWorksTractorsI’m glad you said that. It’s not about money… it’s about fulfillment. Money doesn’t fill what is missing from the equation. It’s spiritual. Just look at why you make videos. You are giving to a certain degree, guidance, understanding, logic, etc. while trying to make sense of the world you are in and sharing it with whoever… AND in another comment you said the young people rather watch tik tok… Why? What does it offer that the working world doesn’t? Two economies… one is like a drug… drugs are generally about medication…. ‘Self medicating’…. It’s all about filling what is missing. Hard work no longer fills the void. The world around us is metaphorically falling apart… just look at politics…. Politics is basically about business… as voters are tax payers.

    Competitive salaries motivate workers, reduce turnover, and enhance overall job satisfaction. Lower turnover leads to cost savings associated with recruitment, training, and lost productivity. Moreover, a stable and experienced workforce often contributes to a positive work environment and increased organizational success.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  9 месяцев назад +2

      Competitive salaries don't motivate employees...we pay darn good for warehouse workers and it's incredible how hard it is to find and retain quality employees. I'm all about creating a positive envirnoment that is geared towards a very balanced work/life schedule...no weekends, no nights, never more than 50 hours a week, paid holidays, I buy lunch on Friday's, paid time off, paid work wear, flexible work schedule, bonuses, other benefits, etc. That's just for a simple warehouse position, packing and shipping. It's like pulling teeth to find quality candidates.

    People will not work for pennies anymore. If you pay pennies thats the kind of riff raff help your going to get maybe none at all. You got to pay enough for the person to be able to afford to work there. Tons of places here in SD whine about not being able to get good help but if you dig into it they arent paying a wage that would even pay for an apartment. Then the people who are good workers know what they are worth and are not going to stay at a crappy company. The job market isnt like it was 30 years ago either. Older people are like broken records that still think a single 20 something can afford a house a new car and start a family on a single income because they could back in the day! 🙃 Then they turn around and say no one wants to work when they offer the fine job of scooping hog crap or similar for 15bucks an hour. Why do crap work when you can make the same or more money doing easier work. Shoot walmart or amazon pay better than a lot of wrenching or welding jobs here.

The competion between employers over that top 20 percent of people with values and pride in their work is pretty stiff. A lot of the time they find a good job with good leadership and they stay. It's not often that demographic is unemployed or looking for work to begin with. Either they are fleeing bad management or it has to be a really good offer.

    Job descriptions and requirements are often a turn off and not even related to the actual work. You might be looking for a salesman when the best fit might be a mechanic or farmer that are familiar with the products. And be easier to teach the sales part than to teach a salesman the technical/life experience part. Everyone does things different. That can be hard to accept by a boss. A company I worked at had back-office people rate the employees in my area. The Manager, Foremen, Leads, and others shown the list all disagreed. Funny in that the worst and best were the most swapped, while the more average were not. Can be very difficult to assess an employee without stepping back and really thinking.

    Courtney, You are an absolutist for change in how business is done. From the timeframes of me first watching your videos from when I first saw the storage bin days of you being slammed full of tractors and gear; including with all of that equipment sitting just outside and rowed up like somebody had laid chalk lines at times to make things line up straight, to the pristine picturesque examples of the tractors that you had for sale.
    I'm not sure if you have ever stepped back and really taken all of that in, for what you were really showing. Was it organizational prowess, or was it how to cram as many tractors and as much equipment into a limited confined area to make it easier to inventory? Or to just care for and reorder by just glancing across the lot. Joking with grace by the way (just to get you to laugh about this) for all statements here by me and that stated; it is very admirable for a business owner and very admirable for self-initiative as well. I was paying attention and I am absolutely sure that many, many, many more thousand(s) (194K Subscribers more) did and are listening and paying attention.
    I have some of the same outlooks, roadblocks, and the same inherited analogies from within and for my own requirements of myself and of others I work with and share life with. It gets harder and harder to find my true north at times when all I want to do is do the right thing and make sure that I can do all that I can do to help. And if I can help someone do better, be better, have better, and then for those that you are trying to help, to then possibly to be able to transfer the same help or forward actions onward to someone else to be helped again (sound familiar?).
    Yet, so many times it is unknown why; they then take the advice or even the help, as being demanding, or critical assessment and react defensively. Especially with all of the critics from around the full spectrum of entitlements that our society's beliefs are forcibly embedded in by others. Here, recently I have discovered some relief and some solace in watching another RUclipsr (Dr. Kim Sage) whom I find amazing in her explanations and content for myself. Now I know how the true draw-of-meaning is for many things that I have seen happen to me and continues to happen even daily when people have misconceptions of why I do things a certain way and can also explain why it has to be done exactly that way for many bilateral reasons with evidential matter to prove the needs to the highest degree. It is absolutely crippling at times and causes a shutdown of the processes for me. I am not advertising, but you should check out Dr. Kim Sage.
    Great content that you are giving and sharing, I really like and enjoy the musical engagement at the end of the videos, and even though I do not consider myself a highly religious person; I do enjoy waiting to see your next thought processes for which verse you would cite to, and wonder from both sides of what intentions sometimes. But also, I do ask myself why you actually choose those certain particular verses for that context and for that certain video content base.
    I do read the verses and they shine with meaning on many, many occasions more than I can count; without you actually speaking a word of it physically. That is a very intelligent skill set that you have tapped into; to be able to draw thousands of people to the end of your videos and to actually engage them honorably with what you have there at that point to share. Avid watcher here, and even long before that I subscribed to your channel.
    Thank you for sharing what you do and you do great work.

I knew how frustrated I was trying to order the parts, I didn't want to fight the battle to correct the order. I just bit the bullet and paid for something I didn't need.

    As a content ‘creator’ you should realize that you do it because people are hungry and you are trying to feed them (and it’s ‘immaterial’)… it gives you more to in return right? At least when you feel like you’ve done a ‘good work’. SO think about how unfulfilled people generally are from their work. You need the few people left who get fulfillment by what comes out of/from their work environment… ie. they want that which is actually valuable… ie. where did Christ say to store your treasure? (=it needs to be spiritually fulfilling… like where doing the right thing is elevated above the financial aspects of work.) Of course there’s more to it… but when you realize we are in a raging war between the material world (vice/compromise/corruption) and the spiritual (virtue =way, truth, life), and one side is depleting the other side of power/energy. It means people are hungry for fulfillment… some feed the flesh (still) and some are hungry for something better.

    It's also difficult for a good employee to find a good employer. I have worked for the same company for 25 years. At first they were decent to their employees. Eventually things changed. Sick time was taken away, vacation time was reduced. Holiday pay taken away. Every benefit has been taken away or greatly reduced. Now the quality of the people they're hiring has completely gone down. There are still good people out there trying to work for a living but they're getting fewer and fewer every day. I'd love to work for you except most of my experience is with bigger tractors from the 60s-80s. Probably something not very helpful anymore. I do also suffer from the same hearing and phone issue. By the time someone gets me to understand what they're trying to say both of us are getting angry. Keep looking decent people are still out there.

    Hi Courtney, my wife and I also have a small business that we decided to keep small because we ran into the same problems. We are OK with our business staying a hobby business. Business growing pains can really suck. I know this comment doesn’t really help your situation but sometimes just knowing there’s others out there that have dealt with the same things help. So good luck you’re doing a great job you’ve got a great channel. Keep up the good work.

You seem an extremely kind and informed owner that clearly goes WAY above and beyond. You are rare. I feel your pain when you say How do I continue with what I enjoy and am good at if my business is not fitting all needs of my customers. This is why you will succeed! Find a kid to do your social media replies and speak to him 5 times a day with follow ups that require you. That person will soon learn to sift the serious buyers that need quicker responses. Teaching all you know is not possible.

    The worker you are looking for is out there but they are worth six figures. Can you afford to pay a worker that much and still make money on them? I would rather make a little money on an excellent employee and not have to deal with headaches. Than make a lot of money on poor employees and deal with all the headaches.

    The company I work for went most of the summer one employee short. Took months to get someone in the door. Job literally pays around 100k a year (sometimes more, sometimes less depending on OT). I feel most companies are now just resorting to headhunting people who are willing to work with better pay, benefits, & personal time off.

    I haven't read all of the other comments, as there are just too many for me to read. But my take on your situation is that you're going through growing pains. Been there, done that. I survived, and came out on the other side better off though, and I respect your intellect, and am confident that you'll do the same.
    Also, I'm FAR from being a tractor expert. But I do own a Kioti RX 7320 and a Kubota BX 2350, and I've become relatively well informed on tractors and the correct sized implements for those machines recently. I'd be interested in doing some sales/marketing for you if you'd be interested in discussing the matter further. I'm always open to discussions if you felt like talking about it. I wish you all the best regardless of if you wanted to pursue that or not.

    Look to newly retired teachers who need to bridge the insurance age gap until they reach sixty-five. To be honest, you may lure teachers nearing retirement away to your company. Teachers are very smart, usually, and for that kind of compensation package at which you hinted they might jump the educational ship a few years early.

    Courtney see if you can hire an office specialist aka secretary to answer the phones. If nothing else, they can take down all the pertinent information and suggest looking at your website as well as shooting someone an email.
    You might also want to streamline the products available so the OA could click on a specific model of tractor and up would come everything associated with that type and model. I haven’t been on your website in awhile so I can’t recall if that’s what you’re already doing.

    Your asking for someone who is a subject matter expert, extremely good at working with customers, and (since you run an efficient business) able to handle a large workload each day.
    You never once mentioned what the employee would get for providing that. A couple comments alluded to a 6 figure salary, but that wasn't in the video.

    You may have to rely more on AI. I assume you have all the data on what you have sold. If the customers provided the tractor model they are buying it for already that would be great as you would have what size attachment you have sold for what model tractor in a giant data base. The more data, the better at telling the right attachment. While not replacing people completely, it could allow fewer people to do more.

Employer or employee, you have to have an open mind set. You may think you know everything, and even if you did, it never hurts to listen to the ideas of others. Again, not meaning any disrespect, maybe its time to relax. Everyone out there isn't Courtney

Meanwhile it seems like we’re not really paying attention enough to ask the question why? Is this a question or a statement? An unanswered phone is a lost sale. While not ideal, it >is< acceptable to take a message. Talking to a human is far more likely to result in a sale than getting routed to voicemail or the phone never being answered. If I'm hunting for a product and the phone isn't answered or it goes to VM, they're struck off the list. If I talk to a human who takes a message, they'll stay on the list, but I'll also continue calling the next ones. If I talk to someone who has the information I'm looking for (like application, pricing, availability) and it matches, then it's a sale.
