Cosby was a successful brand, say what you want. Angel Heart was an extreeeemely dark movie. I watch it once and never watched it again. Even if he did not have such a strong brand, I would have made the same decision. Cosby consulted a psychologist for The Cosby Show to make sure that the images were not harmful to the public and showed blacks in a positive light. I can still watch it and smile.

By the same token looking back Cosby had no right to judge what Lisa did especially with the allegations that came to light about him if you know what I mean.
@@ssppeeaarr oh we know he’s a biased creep. It was mentioned in the video. However, no one knew what he did behind doors. He was selling a wholesome family show and Lisa’s public image did not fit. Two things can be true at the same time: Cosby is a creep AND he had a business to run. Lots of our “favs” are completely different behind closed doors because they know they have to sell a certain image to the public. Taking the Cosby show away, Lisa’s image tanked in general after her movie and pregnancy. So it wasn’t just Cosby who felt a certain way, the general public felt some kind of way as well. I don’t think she would have an issue if the Cosby show had been produced today. But in the late 80s early 90s, Americans were VERY conservative. Lisa was just ahead of her time.

Lenny cheated on her and when she got with Jason he was a broke f-boi who she essentially took care of for some years. They struggled with money for a while and then when he blew up he started cheating on her. Not to mention he always seemed VERY immature. Getting these men isn’t a brag if you get dogged out. Lisa was my first celebrity girl crush, I was so drawn to her and she introduced me to my bohemian aesthetic. I would like to add that the tabloids were wrong regarding Jason Momoa and amber heard having an affair because I did watch that whole trial and Jason was actually on johnnys side and testified for his defense as well as expressed his support for Johnny on his instagram. As a fellow Scorpio I relate to this as I get older I prefer the security of home.
The tragedy is Black and Brown people aren’t allowed to just be. Sidney Poitier said something similar, he felt he always had to be the good guy. While white people can be anything. It’s why representation in all its forms matters.

I agreed with Cosby 100% about Lisa's image and how it affected the "brand", show. I believe this is one of the main issues with the black community. Everyone wants to do their own thing, and no one wants to take accountability. I was in my late teens when the Cosby Show was #1 and I can't stress to you how proud black America was (especially us young people) to see how positively we were portrayed. It changed the way MANY young black people saw themselves. Now look at us on TV!... see what happens when they silence our voices (Bill Cosby) and no one takes accountability for how we are portrayed? Yes. Everyone should make their own career choices, but she could have come to a compromise and put her personal goals on hold until the show was done. The black experience is unique in this country. Therefore, it takes a whole lot more work and sacrifice to reach that great height and sometimes we must sacrifice. This is one of the reasons I question whether or not some biracial people can ever really relate to the black experience, especially when their mom is not us!
Loved Lisa Bonet in the neo-noir film, "Angel Heart." The movie was/is compelling but controversial upon release. Lisa should have been offered other artistic roles. But she wasn't. Although she had outgrown her "good girl" role in The Cosby Show, he could have shown her support as a gifted actress rather than fire her. He had the power to praise her film career and/or support/encourage her. He didn't. He was selfish. She was ahead of her time AND Hollywood didn't offer her roles she would have excelled in. Thanks, Karine, for your tribute to the beautiful, artistic Lisa Bonet!
A Different World wasn't the same without her, it was aimed at older teens who had grown up watching The Cosby Show, she had a huge fan base from there.
. Oh really? I didn't know that. I have heard the one who played Lisa's husband speak on the allegations surrounding Cosby back before it even got enough gusto for trial. Which tv character (s-i-l) are you referring to..."Elvin" (Sondra's hubby) or Lisa's tv hubby? Lisa KNOWS something on him I honestly believe but she nor ANYBODY in that cast will EVER say.
I believed everything happened the way it had to happen. Nothing last forever, it was her time to move on and be herself. She is not only absolutely stunning but very talented. She made the right decision and so did Cosby. Changes are part of life.
Growing up in the 80’s I always felt like Lisa was different. That she was drastically different in real life that what her role permitted on Cosby. She always felt like the wildcard LONG before any of this happened. Maybe I picked up on that energetically. But I’ve always loved her uniqueness, and individualism. But I never heard about the movie, so yes, I could see why Cosby would make that business decision, as it was in the 80’s.
I love Lisa Bonet. I grew up watching The Cosby Show and A Different World. At the end of the day, she was an actress portraying a role. Denise Huxtable was a persona. I never understood all the pearl clutching in the 80s. Hollywood is so hypocritical. Great story Karine❤
The pearl clutching is because everyone bonded with Lisa's character Denise and felt as though she were their young daughter. People can't handle shifts from what they view is acceptable and wholesome. Also, as a member of the black community, we can be super judgmental regarding sex and non-Christian behavior.
Bill's scandle aside, I totally understand why he let her go. My feeling is, it wasn't just her pregnancy, but the Angel Heart role. Possibly, it would gone differently had she not done such a dark role. I imagine she & Bill were lole oil & water. He had a hit show, she was at that age were she was much more concerned with her career and probably felt very controlled and then rebelled against it. All the while losing sight of the fact that the reason she had a career, was because of the show.
I just watched this video. To answer your question sadly I agree with the reason why she was fired because it not just about his brand but think about everyone who was working on the shows from actors and everyone behind the scenes. Now as a fan I think she is just amazing.
I’ve always thought she was gorgeous. Her hair is so pretty. Cosby is far from pure, but as a business, if it ain’t broke don’t fix. The show was working.
I personally agree with Cosby for protecting his brand and thinking of the black family positive image. Especially in those times. Love Lisa though, she’s so dope. 💚

We can't know for sure that her decisions would have ruined the Cosby "brand." I saw the movie Angel Heart when it was released in theater. It was very different from Denise Huxtable, and showed her range as an actress. She could have easily went on hiatus and had her baby and let the hoopla die down. Cosby didn't have to do her like that. But then again, maybe he did her a favor! His jello pudding fat Albert ass in jail! 😂
So Cosby always portrayed a awesome family on set and in real life but when he decides he wants to buy NBC. Shadow allegations come out to discredit him and ruin him. Women who had power didn't say anything then. Imo, this is why I will always love the actress on Alfred Hitcock's The Birds. She said NO to Sir Alfred and she got blackballed. She kept her dignity over fame
See beyond the physical realm. She is a Scorpio, she does what she feels is right and for Scorpios often this involves expressing their sexual nature and how it can, in low vibrational levels, open one up to evil (exposing the veil WAYYYYYY before others were) She is a woman with purpose and it MUST be celebrated!
I believe that. My friend dated a Scorpio who was 'mental' in bed. He called things off because he thinks she bought a demon into his house and is now haunted 🙈
Denise Huxtable was a wholesome character. Lisa the actress is a real person who has the right to take whatever role comes her way. If Cosby wanted her to be a Huxtable in real life then he should have paid her not to take roles offered that did not align with his vision and put it in a contract.
I disagree. The Cosby Show was a machine of its own…a brand! Keeping her at that time caused damage to the brand. She should have quit the show and never returned if she wanted to do more edgy work.
@@DeCurtaRican The Cosby Show was nothing shy of absolutely toxic, stereotypical, and problematic. It's as if the whole point of the show was to belittle the predominant black community for not being uppity, stuck up, and selling out. Lisa Bonet was arguably the realest person on that show, and frankly she made a choice as a grown woman that she have the right to make when she took on the role in Angel Heart. Bill Cosby is nothing shy of a predatory hypocrite that chose to try to stifle a young woman's career because of him personally having a problem with her not supporting a False Image he tried to create about her and the other children on the show. Saw Angel Heart when it came out decades ago and was so sorry I did, hated this movie, don't care who was in it or how famous they were, it was a horrendous movie, very dark and I wish I never saw it, even worse I talked a friend into going to it with me, I had no idea what it was--that it would be as bad as it was, I feel so sorry and terrible for talking her into seeing it too.
Yeah it sounds like a gross film
Cosby was a successful brand, say what you want. Angel Heart was an extreeeemely dark movie. I watch it once and never watched it again. Even if he did not have such a strong brand, I would have made the same decision. Cosby consulted a psychologist for The Cosby Show to make sure that the images were not harmful to the public and showed blacks in a positive light. I can still watch it and smile.
She seems like she's super cool and dope as fuk. I love her. She extremely intelligent, conscious, woke, doesn't mind going against the grain, and outspoken.
Lisa is amazing and needed the room to run ... Bill did what was best for his show, this in noway takes away from either of them! Proud of Lisa for taking her own path❤and not being afraid to be herself!
I loved the Cosby show when it came out and I loved Lisa Bonet's style. I think Cosby had a right to fire Bonet if he felt like she wasn't living up to his image of her. By the same token looking back Cosby had no right to judge what Lisa did especially with the allegations that came to light about him if you know what I mean.
lmao exactly. glad SOMEONE finally not biased here n thinking cosby was a saint here. knowing all the nasty skeletons in his closet.
Long before the scandal, he came off very self righteous and judgmental! 🧐
@prtdiva , Actually, there were loud whispers re: Cosby's deviant behavior; it was an open secret.
One of my favorite songs by Lenny Kravitz is “Flower Child“ and I always thought it must’ve been written for Lisa Bonet, but don’t know for sure. it’s such a great song! lesser known but totally awesome.
The whole album is dedicated to Lisa.
@@MyCheriAnolani oh that’s so sweet!!
@@mellio9077 Zoe was the first Zoe around at the time, and her name was very unique and unusual.
@@MyCheriAnolani You could say that they were one of the first public people to name their baby Zoe, and since then it’s a commonly used name. But Zoe was a well-used name in Greek circles long before that. In Greek it means “life” and there is a Greek cross with the words ZOE & FOS intersecting at the O which means “light & life.” I know people named Zoe who are older than Lisa Bonet.
@@mellio9077 exactly haha what you said 💕
I want to drop this on here because y’all have too many stars in your eyes about her dating Lenny and Jason. Lenny cheated on her and when she got with Jason he was a broke f-boi who she essentially took care of for some years. They struggled with money for a while and then when he blew up he started cheating on her. Not to mention he always seemed VERY immature. Getting these men isn’t a brag if you get dogged out.
Stop getting so excited about them because dating them isn’t important in the grand scheme of things. Worry about your money and taking care of yourself. They want you when you don’t care about them.
She hasn't had a career since Angel Heart. Bill warned her.
💚💚💚💚💚 Lisa Bonet was simply a very mystical woman with a Bohemian lifestyle and she always wreaked of mystique. She's a Scorpio!
Lisa is stunning! She reminds me of Brooke Shields when she was young. Same essence.
My grandmother said there was a rumor about Cosby hitting on her mother. She believes this is why she did that movie and started to act a little wild.
Nah Lenny Kravitz happened
I never heard that,BUT that being said we have NO IDEA what all REALLY went on with Cosby.
when I was a Kid I thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world next to my Mom
Totally agree with your unbiased opinion regarding Cosby and Lisa.
I remember it because after Jason and Lisa split I wondered if it had something to do with him supporting Johnny Depp. I really believe though that their split was that they had grown apart and he wanted to peruse his career and she is just ready to stay home. As a fellow Scorpio I relate to this as I get older I prefer the security of home.
I loved lisa and Lenny together. I thought they were mirror images of one another also but of course, I didn't know either of them in real life.
The tragedy is Black and Brown people aren’t allowed to just be. Sidney Poitier said something similar, he felt he always had to be the good guy. While white people can be anything. It’s why representation in all its forms matters.
Funny coming from him. Maybe that’s why he married his non black wife to assimilate in white culture and for acceptance.
Not true
@@cyn2480 very true
This is very true and important!
I think because of the systemic racism black Americans face, playing some characters would push stereotypes, as most directors and actors aren't good enough to bring justice to some characters
@@cyn2480 exactly. Brown and black people are seen in many many different types of roles these days - why is it always White = bad blatant and accepted racism? I am so sick of it already. Imagine a White person blaming every other race constantly? People would be screaming that we're r-cist yet others can say whatever they want about White people with no accountability. So sick of this cultural douible-standard but like all things, the pendulum is now swinging back to normal from the extreme and not a moment too soon.
How naive of me to think she was fired for turning up late for work and being pregnant. I totally now understand why she left the show.
Well this is what the media told us. But it was all a lie.
0:07 Lisa is absolutely gorgeous
Definitely a kindred spirit to me. Same gypsy style, a deep love for the color green 💚🍃 eclectic, vintage, unapologetically authentic
The epitome of a "Free Spirit!"
15:00 I agree with you. It was about business that Cosby let her go. At that time, no one in a successful family show wanted to be associated with vodoo or nudity... 😊😊😊
You have a beautiful chilled voice! I can sometimes close my eyes to just listen
Lisa was sooo ahead of her time in style and everything else. You definitely pay a price for that but I don't think she cares at all. I loved the movie Angel Heart! Scary! I used to see her around LA in the vegan restaurants long ago. She is tiny and yes, very naturally beautiful and enjoys her privacy. Given what we now know about Cosby, I'm guessing she was quite glad to be done with that show!
🙏🏾🙌🏾💯STILL BEAUTIFUL❤
She is sooo beautiful!!!
She’s beautiful ❤ I am a huge fan of LB! Like Cosby was innocent 😂
I remember her as a kid on the Cosby show. Also, Angel Heart was something else
As a fellow Water Sign and fellow Scorpio Sign, like you Karine and as a fellow Scorpio Sign I can appreciate this video, I'm grateful to see a new notification for a upload of your new RUclips video ❤ Karine, thank you so much...
Lenny Kravitz and Lisa split up because he cheated on her and he got caught. He talked about it in a documentary.

Karine, I think all of your videos are very professional, and I’m actually glad you don’t cuss and are respectful in your dialogue. I respect you for that, and really love your videos. I found you by accident and after listening to one video, I immediately subscribed. Thanks for being you!
I believe that at the end of Angel heart movie . Johnny Favorite discovers that Lisa’s character is his daughter and in the end he had s… with his daughter. 😢
Oh I forgot all about that part..the movie was bad enough without remembering that terrible twist
ms.karine thank you for the story on lisa bonet she was one of my favorite actress i feel lisa knew what she wanted her career and after all that i still love her as a person and actress.
I’ve always loved Lisa Binet she was always really Beautiful she was to me someone I could look up to coming from a Biracial Background myself I was able to relate to her . Thank you for the story . ❤
She is the most beautiful woman in the world in my eyes. I am envious of her past relationships, but at the same time was devastated by her break ups. She is an enigma and I really love her hippy, boho styles. She is so cool! 💚💚💚
I’ve always saw Lisa as eccentric, beautiful & unique in her own cool way. I grew up watching her on the Cosby Show. I’ve never heard of or seen that movie, Angel Heart. I get it though… I was a child when it came out. She has a quiet confidence that I admire. 💚 💚💚💚💚💚💚
Karine you just did another excellent video! HELP, If you did one on Anna May Wong, I wasn't able to find it among your wonderful videos!
just like how disney do their stars they have to keep a squeaky clean image or theyre out
I agreed with Cosby 100% about Lisa's image and how it affected the "brand", show.
Karine, this is the one!!!❤
Gosh she's so gorgeous ❤
Lisa is indeed a mysterious beauty.
No she isn’t always glorifying these yellow skinned women
6:07 she kind of favors Kyla Pratt or Vice versa since she’s older
I have always thought she was beautiful not just because if her looks but because she was always herself! She is so unique.
He is a cheater, he's cheated on her so many times. That's why they broke up, she had enough.
Pill Cosby had a lot of nerve! The hypocrisy and he was out there doing all types of crazy stuff back in the day 🤦♀️
2Nikota Demetria 100% agree with you.
Yep Lisa simply took an acting role and pretended the part. Bill was doing nasty, dark, evil stuff in real life!
It’s always those holier than thou people that are the worst.
He was probably projecting.
I was scrolling for this comment. Hypocrisy at its best.

Bonet's reputation should be exonerated due to Cosby's now reputation. Oh the irony.
1:42 lol my hormonal acne could NEVER. Good genes are good genes 🧬 lucky!!!
You have a beautiful speaking voice. Lovely video.
Thank you Karine
I just watched this video. To answer your question sadly I agree with the reason why she was fired because it not just about his brand but think about everyone who was working on the shows from actors and everyone behind the scenes. Now as a fan I think she is just amazing.
Lisa is my fav she's the reason I got locs I've always admired her style an my favorite color is also green🥰 I luv Angel Heart such a good movie

Oh-Kay.👌🏾
I’ve always thought she was gorgeous. Her hair is so pretty. Cosby is far from pure, but as a business, if it ain’t broke don’t fix. The show was working.
I personally agree with Cosby for protecting his brand and thinking of the black family positive image. Especially in those times. Love Lisa though, she’s so dope. 💚
Well with him drugging and raping women, that was very hypocritical of him. Glad he went to jail, but NOT NEARLY LONG ENOUGH

@@bonita-u9veIt would b fantastic but so long as all men would not use their possession 2 take advantage of any1! cosby could really have made a difference n helped so many young people! Instead he helped himself, terrible! I am ashamed 4 him!
wow didn't realize she was only 18 when she filmed that movie. Loved the cosby show and a different world.

Agreed. At that time there was an EXPECTED image to present AND preserve. Again, was THAT expectation written WITHIN HER CONTRACT? I do understand that he had a lot riding on the show's success, but was that totally REALISTIC in their eyes?
@@jlcii Cosby even went so far as to disparage and trash talk his own daughter publicly, which made him feel better about himself and his false image, but which broke his daughter's heart.
