The 1993 theme is seriously underrated, I’m my opinion it’s better than the version we’ve had since September 2009, and Julia’s Theme 2010 is so beautiful it’s such a masterpiece
I’m listening to Peggy’s theme as a way of remembering Barbara Windsor, who played Peggy Mitchell until 2010 and sadly died on Thursday 10th December 2020 in her care home due to dementia. This is surely a heartbreaking occasion for all us Brits, and I’m sure we will all mourn the loss for decades to come.
No one: Anita Dobson: How about we add lyrics to the Eastender's theme tune? British public: Oh yah this is yeety Anyone can fall in love: * Hits number 4 in the charts. *
Dave McAuley You never mess with a classic that’s why, it was cringeworthy and awful and glad it was dumped in the rubbish bin quickly and they brought back the original updated.
Yeah....my comment is more or less gonna be the same as most the people on here, have no fuckin clue why I am listening to 23 mins worth of eastenders theme, but I fuckin love it! LMFAO!!! Seriously! I never thought I'd be happier to listen to different versions of a soap opera theme. Just thinking of all the characters that have died/walked/driven/flown away to these tunes. It's fuckin mental! Now I am gonna watch Pat Butcher's death scene....
Cor Blimey Guvnor! I find myself back here 5 months on and again listening to 23 mins of Eastenders theme tunes! Cor Blimey I loved the full-on cockney version at 1:37 Cor Blimey!
It's nice hearing them altogether. My favourite though, by far, has to be the original Julia's Theme. I find it very emotional. It's a great piece of music.
Julia's Theme isn't about death though. It's just a variation on the theme tune and is used for when the doof doofs don't suit, it can be a happy or sad occasion.
@@morganm5370 Yeah, most of its use in the 80s wasn't actually for deaths/leaves and more just tender, gentle endings that wouldn't have suited the climatic doofs. A shame the series doesn't really DO a lot of gentleness anymore. Favourite version of the theme is still the one that starts with the moving piano build up and then cuts to the regular theme in a triumphant way, though I've yet to find a version of that here that is as seamless as when the show actually does it. Jim proposing to Dot was one of the best examples. Really had a culminating 'happy ending' feel to it.
Come on BBC its a bout time you brought back the 1993 theme it was probably to advance for its time but now over 20 years on maybe time to put it back lots of people seem to like this version.
Nick Kay I agree the jazzy theme was after the original theme the best, it came to soon in 1993 but now would be the time to bring it back, particularly as the show has changed somewhat to be more representative of the trendy eastend of today.
Oh and a history lesson little darlings who now think EE is the best shit since their own this morning. Julia's theme...Julia Smith was one of the original creators of EastEnders. She died shortly before the programme went out in 1985 hence the slow theme. Julia is also responsible for the second E in EastEnders being a capital letter because she didn't think it looked right as "Eastenders". Your lesson of today is over. She would be rolling in her grave if she could see what the BBC has done to it.
latex life30 history lesson- u don't need to give me one, I already knew it and I know eastenders so well my friends give me random dates and I tell them what happened.
I love how Julia's theme adds more of a sad beat to it, like it normally comes on when something really bad or sad has happened and drags on into the credits
Excellent compilation of the various EastEnders themes. Thank you! Peggy's theme offers an arrangement with great clarity, and clarity tends to make for good arrangements. But I especially love the hard-hammer piano sound on "Julia's Theme 1985." Great stuff. Yeah, Peggy's theme wins.
Samuel Coe Its the most crappiest Yuppy pop tune ever, it doesn’t fit with the gritty ness of the soap that EastEnders is, the original one does. Even the theme tune to the axed soap, Eldorado was better than this version.
EastEnders is brilliant and so are the theme tunes and those people who say the show is crap then try watching some episodes (at least 2 or something) and if you still don't like it then fair enough.
I love this because it was 1994 n the boys where on the way back from Vietnam it had been a rough war when this started to play everyone started to cry until later that day I suffered a cardiac arrest
My health deteriorated after the Queen died and Woody.EXE knew it would happen very fast and that’s why he’s never left my since then because I got very sick 5 months later and he stayed with me through all that. I vividly remember hearing the Julia’s theme when Woody.EXE was yelling at Mummy to get help after I got sick and I heard both of them bonding during my illness. Woody.EXE is very supportive and i would have died if i hadn’t met him
As part of work experience my school arranged for me to go and visit Simon May in his home studio. I can still remember it to this day, him showing me the Eastenders theme tune on the seuquencer, haha. My favourite one is Peggy's theme and then the original. I hated the 1993 version.
I sing this everytime EastEnders comes on: I don't want to live anymore I just wanna die 'coz i hate my life so much I don't want to live anymore I just want to die 'coz i hate my life so muuuuuuuuuuuuch
The 'jingly theme' has been the most dominant one. Dunno why?! That Jazzy theme was more interesting to be honest! It has Sax and electric guitar to it - a bit more modern than a 'plinky plonk piano! '
People saying the 1993 theme wasn't of its time clearly weren't around at the time. This sort of BBC "breakdown" music was in every lift going. It was shit then and its shit now. I only came here for the childhood memories of the 80's EastEnders which no matter how hard the BBC try will never ever be able replicate. EE is nothing more than Grange Hill and that strangely shut now??
The 2010 Julia's theme as actually the same as the 1998 Julia's theme - the only difference being that when the episode is aired, there's some extra instruments playing in the background during the build-up at around the 16:13 mark.

The 1993 theme is so fabulously 90s. 😇
Sounds like porn music
NumaticVacuum it was ghastly, you should never mess with a classic ever. Glad they got the original one back after a short time.
Love the 1993 rendition of the theme song. Took a while to grow on me but it was wonderful :D
Loved it
@@jane1975 1993 is not a classic. Halving the year is only 13. Not even the age of consent
DAAAANG I LOVE THE 1993 THEME

A lot of people didn't rate the 1993 theme. I thought it was excellent.
I love it
Same, got a nice jazzy vibe☺️
Amazing 🤩
My favourite 🥰
it fits the era perfectly at that time, lots of sax, like GMTV and TVam themes, excellent
6:50 that sax solo at the beginning sounded like the original London's Burning theme 😍🔥👌
Hot dayum you're CUTEEE😍😍😍

1993 is the best and I can't understand why the viewers didn't like it, change is good
How do u like it it's rubish
People are allowed an opinion.

@@jane1975 A classic is only something over 280 years old,
I'll start watching Eastenders again only if they bring back the 1993 theme

Why am I sitting here at 23:30 listening to the Eastenders theme tune?
Doof, doof, doo doo doof
Absolutely.
Joey Joe Joes Channel It's a bit 'plod, plod plod, but still really nice, love the whistling bit, very reminiscent of the East End.
+Lucia Tilyard it's more doof than plod
he loves me more like mum did
WHY IS THIS SUCH AN AMAZING SONG
It's happy, inspiring..and captures the MAGIC we all want to have!
the ultimate Eastenders theme compilation. you're fantastic.
HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY EASTENDERS!

I think that theme is to simple for eastenders since eastenders is very dramatic and depressing sometimes

ITS A GREAT THEME TUNE,DONT KNOW WHY AS THERES SO MUCH MISERY IN THE SHOW BUT IT ALWAYS MAKES ME FEEL HAPPY INSIDE
The 1993 theme with vocals is pretty alright :)

1993 and Jullia's theme also Peggy's themes are the best
1993 theme should be brought back
It is pretty good actually, back when all soaps weren’t so depressing like they currently are today
Defo bring back the 93 theme tune as it doesn't make EastEnders sound so depressing 😍👍🏻...
Did Eastenders really open/close with the 1993 theme?

Peggy's theme song is now used for all sad episodes :-(
Not all.
Not for old Stan Carter.
Yes. That really annoyed me too. And they way they played it over the credits
They didn't use it for her
I've never heard the jazzy version with lyrics before!! I'm assuming they never used it on the programme?
