The police were being professional by trying not to drive into him once he was a pedestrian. At that point, he was no longer an obvious immediate risk to the public, so it was better to just try to catch him and arrest him without hurting him. Which they were easily able to.

Our Traffic Police use a thing called a Stinger. It is a set of hollow metal spikes that is thrown across the road a head of the car being chased.
When the offender drives over the spikes, it pops the cars tires.
After the offender has driven over the spikes the cop pulls them out of the road so the chasing cop cars tires don’t get popped.

UK don't use pit manoeuvre. It's dangerous for others and the police can't know if there are innocents in the car.

Motorway Police now have installed on overhead gantries, cameras which take shots (pics) of drivers within their seats but not wearing safety belts and / or using handheld mobile (cell) phones whilst driving. Rather than just taking pics of the number plates. I think there might also be those cameras on the same overhead gantries so both are obviously used together and useful!! Those cameras areLinked direct to the headquarters overseeing multiple main roads/ motorways and back to the onroad police to pull them over to "have a word" etc... There's a YT video explaining the processes, it's either been trialled already and about to be installed country-wide, or in the process prior to that happening right now...

While PIT maneuvers are considered standard procedures by most U.S. police departments, they have been banned in the UK and other parts of Europe because of the perceived danger they present.
… tactical contact is precisely that, an attempt to safely and in a controlled manner reduce the speed of the perpetrator to stop or to resist evasion.
The pit maneuver, ie to take advantage of a vehicles pendulum reaction to rear lateral contact, however is a wildly unpredictable manoeuvre which can cause huge collateral damage and therefore is not legal in the UK.

The pit maneuver is an American thing, other countries realise they cause more trouble then they are worth. I've watched so many american police chase videos and a lot of the times when they do it the vehicle being chased goes out of control and hit innocent drivers or crash and kill the suspect driver, there was one video I watched where the cop did it and the suspect who had stolen the cop car that he had been put in ended up crashing in thr a flat bed semi trailer and it totally destroyed the cop car and he died on the way to the hospital. American cops can't seem to control themselves and they don't follow the rules of doing the pit maneuver.

Connor, there's nothing wrong with your views on sentencing, except that there's usually an element of choice when people are doing things that they know are likely to result in a prison sentence - and that choice is to opt out of taking any responsibility for themselves and their lives. It is therefore not really a punishment - and certainly not one that is likely to prevent them from reoffending at a later stage. Something that requires them to work hard for their survival and sustenance on the other hand, might just prove a lot less attractive as a future choice as it forces them to take such responsibility! Unfortunately, the kind of prison sentencing that involved forced hard manual labour was phased out of the UK penal system decades ago...

They are also allowed to chase motor cycles now, and crash in to them, motor cycle crime is said to have dropped by 50%, if its true

its impossible really to have 2 x 18 wheelers, they lucky this is on motorway, many of our roads are small, 18 wheeler, to slow, and would struggle on the snallers roads and towns, the police do have the what ylou call 18 wheeler cabs, (the driving bit), because they higher up and can see into larger vehicals easier, for people on phones and the likes, using a phone comes with high penalty of 6 points on license, caught twice its a driving ban,

What do I myself think of his sentence - as well as so many others who do things like this, and other similar or worse things, too, Connor??? - It's just a shame that former punishments like hanging - being put in the stocks - the cat 'o' nine tails - and various degrees of hard labour have all been abolished . . . as there would be far less crime going around if they knew that sentences like those were still around now to be used . . .

ruclips.net/video/jOBC0H4FL-4/видео.htmlsi=OTz_SMX3NnvH7Kzf another good one for you, it’s quite intense and there’s a even great takedown at the end (it’s 3 mins long but you could probably stretch it to 8 mins 😂😂)
There might be a longer version somewhere though

The villain sounds eastern European, yet another a worthless immigrant. We already got plenty of our own riff raff without importing more. The police have lost there way in recent years but they do have some dirty jobs like this to do which I'm sure none of us envy, so full credit to them, this is definitely life & death stuff.
