  • On Texas Independence Day 2024, the Alamo's 1724 Gala featured a live auction package for a special cannon-firing event. This unique experience, funded by the generous contributions of Lt. Governor Dan Patrick and other dedicated donors, raised over $150,000 in support of the Alamo Plan.
On Sunday, June 9, the Alamo Trust, Inc. had the honor of hosting this cannon-firing gathering in Yoakum, TX, at the beautiful home of one of our distinguished donors. More than 120 guests enjoyed live music, games and a barbecue luncheon followed by the historic firing of an 18-pounder cannon, similar to the one Lt. Col. William Barret Travis used during the iconic siege of the Alamo. The powerful demonstration helped visualize the historic moment of Lt. Col. Travis firing an 18-pounder cannon 188 years ago, representing the Texians' bold declaration that they would never surrender or retreat from the Alamo.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, Nina and Edd Hendee, and all the donors for their unwavering support. Their generosity not only made this memorable event possible but also significantly contributed to the ongoing efforts of the Alamo Plan to preserve and enhance the historic site for future generations.
