Thanks for that additional Astra content! The Astra Facelift comes with a digital cockpit but fortunately the fuel dial is still analogous with a lot more increments that the pre facelift model. Moreover it has an oil temperature dial which is digitally displayed in analogous fashion. It comes in handy to adjust the rpm when coldstarting the engine for I noticed that even when the water temperature is a proper level the oil just needs some extra minutes/miles to reach operating temperature.
I watched this video many years ago and the Astra I wanted got snatched. I got a Corsa E and I knew deep down inside I wanted an Astra K. Last year November I got the last version of the Astra K with the new bumpers and intellilux LED headlights. I have had it now for almost a year and I am really happy with the overall feel of the vehicle. It’s better specced that most Golfs and outperforms most Golfs as well
Great video! Didn't know about the sharks! The Astra also had a shortlived petrol/cng version. In that the fuel gauge shows the amount of the current fuel you are using and shifts on the fly if you change fuels. The other non-used fuel-level is shown as beloved blocks in the drivers screen as a special window so you aren't missing out on blocky action in your Astra!
Yep, that method I believe is on the "mid level" displays (so-called in the vehicle's manual) I have an Elite model similar to the one featured in this video which has the so-called "up level" display where they do away with the twisty function on the indicator stork and also the little menu button on it. It is replaced by using the arrows on the right hand side of the steering wheel instead to scroll through the information pages 😋
Ah yep, it's the buttons on the steering wheel for mine. Funny how much they have changed the Astra over its life. Must make keeping that manual up-to-date quite a pain haha
I've just picked up and astra k after my old car got written off (by an ambulance driver) I might add.. I love this car. So nice to drive, fast when I need it and some great features.. 👌
Thanks JJ for the interesting tips and point outs. My Astra J SRi had the ambient lighting but my Astra K TechLine does not. Keep the videos coming, very informative.
The ambient in Astra J was only red. Hope the new one can be customized (renault had cool ambients in higher lines). Also there is a temperature dial, same they removed in Astra H. Not all folks knows it's important to heat up the engine to 90 degrees C for water to vaperise from the block. It usually takes me 4-5 km for engine to warm up. Smaller, petrol engine are faster to warm than diesel.
Red is just a bit... angry 😄 Agreed on the temperature dial. I don't like it when manufacturers put in the little blue light that tells you the engine is cold. I want to see what temp its running at!
Good old Preston Docks. I wish wireless Carplay was more standard. I have gone through so many cables with that centre console USB. I also wish it had parking sensors as seeing out of that back window is impossible!! I have an 18 plate 1.4 turbo sri.
Yeah, I assume wireless Carplay will be coming in in the newer models (well I hope). Be nice not to have to plug it in every time, doesn't always seem worth the effort for a short journey. Agreed, a parking camera would be even better :)
My 2017 1.6t Astra K has been in service for close to a month now under extended warranty - this waiting time brought me through new levels of rage an despair It seems my fuel rail had a defect and started to spray/leak petrol.. For almost a month I wasn't able to use the car because of some stupid o-ring that go in the fuel rail to seal it, which my dealer say it takes a long time to deliver because of change in suppliers. This made me mad enough to consider selling the car even though I like it and never buy a car from that dealer..
That's a shame. It's the first issue I've heard about the 1.6 petrol, they usually seem quite reliable. Diesels seem to have the most problems. Hope they sort it out before you give up and sell up!
@@JJonCars I haven't heard of anyone having the same problem either, maybe I got extra unlucky and got a fuel ramp with a welding imperfection. On the good side I'm lucky i didn"t caught fire especially since I previously complained to the dealer that there is a petrol smell and they said the car is fine - i had to film the petrol spray and show them before getting the car in service.
@@JJonCars My Astra is just 4 weeks old with 1000 km on the clock & it broke down 3 times. Its now back at opel for the past week & they can't sort out the fault. On ignition, a load of faults come up on the dash - power steering fault, anti collision fault, cruise control fault etc. Car won't start and dash just beeping. Now opel are giving me some BS story about having the right to attempt to fix it 3 times before they replace the car. I raging mad at the moment, driving a replacement rental while my car is being pulled apart at opel garage by head scratching mechanics.
@@paulpeter6436 wow, it's amazing how different the quality of these cars can be leaving the factory. Sounds like a real pain. Hope you manage to get them to sort it out soon!
Another thing to watch out for is clutch pedal can sticking in the down position this had happened to me 4 times.. car done less than 15,000 miles first time it happened sincr then 3 other times before various reports on vauxhall forums about it!
Yep, this happened to me too. Meant car wouldn't restart ("depress clutch to start") so I was stuck. But there was a recall for this - check with your dealer for free modification. No problem since.
Well the gasoline gauge is quite weird, because for me when it is at 50%, I have driven around 350km and got a calculation for a remaining 450km. So the indication is quite .. bizzare :)
Got a brand new Astra SRI this week. Lovely car to drive but I did notice some bad points. No SRI badges under the side signal lights - no alarm, red led on dash doesn't blink when locked - no cover over cup holders - and worst of all, no bloody storage for anything, my mobile phone is rattling around in the door bin with my house keys & wallet. Very basic for €27k. Lane assist is crap, anti collision warning only works when its not supposed to, giving false readings. The only good point is the driver's seat as it is very customisable and the drive itself is pretty good but don't put too much trust in the brakes, they are not the best. Really a bog standard A to B car and not much else.
That's really weird that it's missing those things, cup holder cover and especially an alarm. I have to say I don't miss having lane keep assist or collision warning. And I do find myself using the cupholders as keys/wallet storage etc.
Thanks :) You might be able to see the average consumption against the trip meter (A or B)? I can see it on my 2019 model. It might be different for you though.
In the 1.6T I always got 40mpg (UK) which is about 7L/100km. I discuss fuel economy in the full review of the car here: ruclips.net/video/Ha9iAc0YzCU/видео.html
I have just got a Vauxhall Astra K elite 2016, I didn't know about shark I will look at that. If anyone can help I have the electric seats/massage seats, is there a way to set the exit seat to let you get out of the car easier to stop it going back too far so when you get back in the car you can touch the pedals, as now I can touch the pedals when I get in
Hello, i just bought an Astra K from end 2016 (like 31/12 lol), can you (and if yes, how) turn off the sound of the touchscreen ? i mean when you navigate in the menu it makes loud noises and i can't find any audio options about that :|
Hi there. Lol, so close to being a 2017! The manual says as follows, though I've not tried it myself: Press Home and then select Settings. Select Radio and then scroll through the list to "Audible Touch Feedback" Touch the button next to "Audible Touch Feedback" to activate or deactivate Hope that works!
this is the best car that opel came out with and now opel is bought over by PSA peugeot and added 200+kg to the new opel astra 2023. it is so sad for opel.

To do with the fuel dial, if you twist the indicator stalk there is a page that tells you how many miles you have left too

Enjoyed the video, I've also got the ambient lighting on the door trim although they are quite dim, I'd recommend getting some footwell lights.
