Got the clubs flattened last week and definitely felt like I could make a more natural feeling swing. Being 5'6" I always felt I could start my woods more on line and the swing felt more efficient than my irons, probably because the lie angle doesn't have as much influence on the less lofted clubs and I could swing flatter/ more natural. I also found that if I have a "closed/ staggered" stance helps me flatten out the backswing then on the downswing I can rotate hard through the ball with a level should turn. Hitting them either straight or slight cut/push which I'm liking way better than my two way miss I was struggling with! Great stuff guys, keep it coming!
Man I love this stuff. I have moved my clubs from 2 degrees upright to 1 degree flat and have effectively eliminated the left side of the course. I now have a 2 iron connected to xstiff shaft that is sitting in the garage and never used. I'm taking it to the golf repair guy and having him bend it to 6 degrees flat so that I can start practicing and changing my swing accordingly. Fun stuff. Thanks.
Love it when he explained to come through with more level shoulders, to draw the ball. This is exactly what I do, for the draw. For the fade, I’ll use more right side bend, with right shoulder turning through lower.
@John Erickson I tried these drills yesterday and hit the ball more solid than I have in months. I know that the clubs I was fitted into are 1 degree up. Should I get fit again or just have them slowly bent flatter while adjusting to this style?
If you are under 6 feet tall... no reason you could not play 6 degree flat irons. If you are 6/4, maybe play 4 degrees flat. Not hard to do after a few sessions. Then you can start hitting hard with the body and the ball won't go left... unless you want it to.
@@swardmusic I have found a very strong correlation between a golfer's height and what they can do with lie angles. Taller golfers can bend a lot more at the knees. Hogan was telling John Schlee this when he was working with him. Schlee being a taller player.. Hogan wanted him to drop way down with his knees to flatten his shaft through the strike.
*John believes that swingers only use timing! Body hitters do not use their arms and vice versa. Pitchers do well because they understand weight transfer and how to get the most out of adapting a throwing motion to a golf swing. As a former pitcher myself this is exactly what worked well for me. Almost got into long drive because of it. I hit it well over 300 before it was a popular thing to do 25 years ago.
John… Have you ever practiced concentrating on the hosel (or heel) of the golf club when striking full shots. I believe this “sense” gave me a better club head feel as well as a slightly different path back to the ball. John, do you believe that if the majority of golfers can not feel the club head throughout their entire swing, then when this golfer begins his downswing he is in essence initially attempting to hit the ball with the grip-shaft-hosel alignment until his subconscious mind moves the hosel inside the ball only to then be struck by a club face that is swiping across the ball, I.e. “low on the toe” every time.
@@teddythodo3302 Yes... more than I would be comfortable with using a hitting protocol. The problem with offset is that it delays the closing of the clubface ... which is helpful for bad OTT golf swings.. but for good swings... it forces the player to either come OTT or throw right arm at the ball actively which is timing based and much more problematic.
John, 'stay compact; stay aggressive.' If I do the 'stick something under my left armpit,' do you suggest that it should stay there on the follow through, or should it ultimately drop?
Back in da day I remember Greg Norman hitting a few shots off the concrete with no negative effects on his wrists. As for a deck i'm sure the wood will give.
Kid obviously has a great swing, but have never seen anyone turn head and eyes back the way he does at start of backswing. Almost like he’s looking at something behind him and surprised he can come back to the ball the way he does.
So, when in doubt, blame the student, I guess. Right? How about we change ball position instead of messing with the stance. That way, we don’t have to focus on motion using drills. Good? “Expert” comes up short of his moniker.
Even a pull draw is not a double cross. Mike would be drawing the ball to work the ball away from trouble. If he had cut the ball when trying to draw it... that is a double cross and much more problematic.
…..yea, when I see a player hit the ball in the water I get upset thinking about the fish and other wildlife. I’ve tried to contact Green Peace and the Sierra Club and told them to begin draining all golf course water hazards immediately. This has got to stop now or else all of these golf balls will only increase Global Warming. I’m literally terrified about this. The world could come to an end.
Did I hear Mike mention timing? I thought there was no timing in this "hitter's" swing. Michael is a swinger and has lot's of arm rotation , since he has no choice as the club face is open coming down because of the pronated lead arm and cupped lead wrist, cupped lead wrist late in the D.S. is not helping. The whole thing is a mess! Flatter lie angles point the face more right (just put a lie angle pointer on the face) to see this . Plus the wide open club face with the cupped wrist is not a draw friendly setup...Hogan did this to help stop a hooking issue and promote a fade....duh!
Hogan hit fades AND draws on command. His fade was actually quite straight because everyone hit draws in his day. Go watch Tiger's How I Play Series on YT. He says he works the ball with his hands but that's just the feel of the orbit pull. He actually works the ball how John describes it with body rotation. It's just that one feels it in the hands.
I worked with Mike for less than an hour.. got him to flush 6 degree flat 1iron shots beautifully. Taking the timing stuff out of his swing. He went out the next few weeks and had a couple top 5 finishes in respectable events. Really encouraged with his progress.
@@lagpressure Yeah well except he isn't doing your asinine method when he plays and he doesn't have 6* flat clubs does he! He was already a good golfer and there's timing in every sport golf is no exception! Mike is a swinger by your definition, he has arm rotation and doesn't just square up the club face by body rotation alone. Brendon knows better since all the teachers he sees and going on 3d equipment would prove there is no such thing as just releasing the club with only body rotation to hit draws or fades, it is just a fantasy of Erickson that this happens in any so called hitter's swing. @@MichaelShinosky You have no clue what Tiger does and you now talk for Tiger saying Tiger doesn't know what he does but you do...LMAO!!! Orbit pull??? How scientific...hahaha! Hitting off the deck 😳 How is that not bad for both the club and joints.

Low, left, around... THEN UP... so it would drop. There is an extra power source with the lift up after you worked it low and around first.
