OH my GOSH the improvement is jaw dropping. Gorgeous lighting, everything is just much more natural.
For me especially being a hobby graphics artist and modeler thats worked a lot in other engines. Things like the car paint specifically just looked downright dissapointing on everything besides the trucks before. Now it has proper light levels and fresnel so the grazing angles are crisp and act like a mirror how they do in real life, it helps a ton with surface definition too. A couple of my models are in Jazzycat's traffic mod and it put a big smile on my face to see them basically get a makeover and look how they're supposed to!

Yup, all braindead fanboys will be happy no matter how stupid is update after update. SCS knows that pretty well. This game never looked so terrible. But SCS tells you, "we added a new lighting system to make the game look better". And every single braindead fanboy believe it. Even if they are playing the game and realizing that the lighting is completely awful, and way worst than before. Classic. Frikkin stupid fanboys.

When I first entered the game I was impressed, it looks better in game than just the pictures they posted. Also the little touches of the lights how they fade in and out now looks much better.
The skybox is a huge improvement, cloud shadows are amazing, it feels more realistic overall. This update is the spark I needed to get back into virtual trucking.
Dude, buy a brain for yourself. Cloud shadows are NOT NOTICEABLE, since version 1.31 LOL. You can check threads on any forum from 2015.. This is what im talking about.. stupid fanboys.. classic. This updated made the game to look way worst than before, by a mile. You guys really need to buy glasses and a brain.
There's a big difference, The update made it so realistic.
If you call this realistic, you better buy a brain for yourself, you really need one. And go out to the real world, because you dont have a clue what realistic means. Idiot fanboy.
So I work at BestBuy. I deal with Pacific sales (major/high end appliance division of BBY). A lot of the stock issues are due to Covid. Most companies have the same difficulties either getting products in stock all together or having delivery dates in a timely manner. Bosch is one of the companies that is heavily affect so it’s really good they had a display model you could take home.
If it got any kind of electronics in it, then it actually is much more affected by the water shortage in china than by covid.
It's the reason for the massive delays in car production, and in the shortage of computer parts. Water shortage = silicon shortage = everything electronics shortage.
As a truck driver I found it hilarious whenever you showed up to the shipper and didn't know where to pick up. The exact phrase you used is exactly what every truck driver says whenever they get to a new shipper. You would think they put up some signs or something.
This was such a graphics overhaul to me. And I first realized it as I had a night drive, and passed a huge wreck scene and oh my god the lights flashing off the interior looked so good! Everything about the lighting and graphics is just amazing now! Not to mention they added the new chassis options, I can’t wait for TruckersMP to support this new update when the time comes.

I’m using the beta stock no graphics mods and no overlay adjustments and no lighting issues looks great inside the truck and out, the new night lighting and headlights are really good no more ridiculous high beam
1.40 completely reignited my love for the game. It's so awesome!

As an IRL truck driver the very first thing I did when I downloaded this beta is I bought one of the 8x6 (8x4, idk) stretched trucks because I've always wanted to know what it was like. I was fueling up IRL the other day and I was leaving the lot and I saw this truck pull out of his parking spot in front of me and as I was watching, the truck was STRETCHED and it was probably almost twice as long as the average tractor. It was interesting
Jeff, I am going to test this theory later this week, but I think that the NVIDIA OVERLAY settings are causing that bloom effect or the "g_bloom 0" may have to be set in the config. So what I am seeing is when you are in the interior view the dark dash, A pillar, and cab ceiling are all very dark, so the lighted areas around them are trying to contrast brighter, where as when you are in 3rd person view, no dark areas so nothing trying to render out brighter. Hopefully this helps some, but thanks for the beta showcase, it looks GREAT overall! So much more realistic...
I still feel they need to improve textures. Everything is so clean and pristine. I see showrunner graphics and it looks way more natural that ETS2 and ATS.
This looks so real man it’s mind blowing! Btw, I just dropped a load for Samsung in Durham, NC from Bethel, PA. 24 items but it was fridges, dryers and washers. That’s crazy man

I just streamed this last night! After being away from ATS for a while, I was blown away by how great the lighting and maps looked. Feels like a whole new game.

For the people that doesn't enjoy the base engine sound you can download the lates engine mega pack from captain K I don't know the rest but is a "famous pack". Still works for ATS 1.40 beta. Enjoy :)

I am glad you pointed out the dash lights control, something they needed anyways. Yeah the lighting is much better now.

Oh man the improvements are so Amazing! I am stoked to not see the painted headlights on the ground regardless of time of day is probably one of my many can't wait things on this version. That truck is absolutely amazing in detail and quality as well. Can't believe its a default truck still as SCS does an amazing job on em. I have no idea why yours looks so good, when i tried out the beta in ATS and ETS the lighting was so bad I couldn't play the game at night, it was like the saturation was turned up by 200% and the lights were so bright it was like being in Vegas on mind altering drugs

I MUST say, however, that the lighting over haul is INSANE, no more chrome and lights shining in the cab and off the windshield, plus realistic traveling shadows, AMAZING!

Graphics now are amazing. Totally changes the look of the game.
I just opted into the beta and redid my controls. Havent played in a few months. Holy shit, 1.40 looks great. Everything ive personally been wanting for a long time. Glad to see SCS working on lighting/skybox/weather (if that was touched lol). Its made a 100% difference for myself personally. Cant wait for it to be released fully.

It looks to me like it’s simulating how bright the actual sun light is as the weather looks really how and bright. Maybe that is why it looks so bright? I don’t know but it looks really good to me Jeff...😅
At time stamp 12:37. The arrow was green for 7 seconds. That seems to be enough time to go thru the intersection. But hey it's not like I've been trucking for 18 years

Nice! These reflections look 10x better. Not looking like these static setboxes for these reflections. Kind of gave this old NFS vibe, but this is a nice improvement!

Well, over time, I've learned Jeff is a good person to learn from. Like when he says it breaks mods because that did happen and it was awful, keep up the good work Jeff!
i might have to get ATS now.... Graphics in simulators have gotten so much better. Weve gotten to a point now where nearly all systems can handle "high res textures", so game devs nearly only gotta focus on lighting...
Also, that brightness issue, its obvious that it is the glass material theyve used for the windshield as you said. Dont know why the windshield got a different material than the side windows tho...

Im really loving this update, I think this is best update so far, but what I realized myself that is the small detail that SCS is adding, they are replacing the current symobol signs to make it more realistic and show the logo of the businesses of Hearts/Loves, Aria Resort, and Taco restaurant, etc. You'll only find these signs in only in Colorado currently. I can't wait til they rework Los Angeles, it's my favorite city on the west coast.
I cant beleive how far ETS2 has gone from launch and still here strong and now they did this. WOW what a team of talented people. There is no other trucking game that can even come close appart from American Truck Simulator which is the same. I hope they include the rest of the Balkans Map after Iberia release.

I have my non mod profile and i finally got to about garages, full of trucks and drivers. I kind of want to start buying more trailers and such to see if my profit increases or stays the same.

I haven't seen my game in daylight yet, but the night time looked FAR improved. I'm running AMD so I'm yet to see issues. But I would guess color washout from in the cabin is ACTUALLY related to the cabin camera -- It's trying to adjust for the dashboard color to be accurate there, and is over-exposing the view out the windows into the world. If SCS adjusted that, in such a way that the interior seemed darker to darken the outside view and not affect the glow of the dash board lights, they'd be a bit closer, is my thought process on that. But it is WAY more attractive than it used to be.

I think it looks good Jeff without weather or any texture mods. If I checked your mod list correctly there is nothing like textures replacement (trees, rocks, roads, weather). I think the nvidia filter can replace the weather skyboxes and make the ame more alive thanks to better colours but I can still recommend better textures for trees, rocks and roads.
1.40 is absolutely amazing. By far the best version. SCS Software is doing better and better. I love the new lighting system.

I was worried my mid range rig with would take an FPS hit with 1.40, but so far on the beta I think I've seen an increase in performance! I don't know if it's because I'm using a vanilla profile for the beta or if they did some optimization as well.
As for the appliance hunting, I'm the same. I like online shopping, but for certain things (i.e. large appliances) I need to go to a store and see with my eyeballs, open the doors, turn the dials, kick the tires so to speak. I've always had good luck with Home Depot.
Cant wait to play this in VR and I heard it’s really well optimized so that plus the reverb G2 would be a god tier experience

The new lighting looks great! Doesnt look as shadowy or flat. For a first look, it would have been nice to see it absolutely bare bones though, without any NVIDIA colour correction overlay tweaks.

Turn off the NVidia filter. The coloring will really pop then. I was using the same filter, and saw the same blowout effect until I turned it off. Major improvement.
