  • The iconic SNP politician, Winnie Ewing - credited as kick-starting the modern independence movement - has died at the age of 93.
    She coined the phrase "Stop the World - Scotland wants to get on" - when she won the Hamilton by-election in 1967.
    She served as an MP at Westminster, MSP at Holyrood -- and -- in Brussels - as an MEP, where she was known as "Madame Ecosse".
