    Note: After some research, I am pretty confident that this can be done without the tool. The spacer that is used is mostly to help with installation, so that the injectors are loose enough to go in the holes but still attached to the fuel rail. To be honest it's probably something you can do without the alignment block, but it's nice for peace of mind.

      Update: can confirm i did it without the tool. No issues. Just loosen the injectors so they have room to wiggle as you remove and reinstall

    What a great video on this procedure. My 2018 440 threw the code: P0305 "Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected". So I swapped Cylinder 5 Coil Pack with Cylinder 4 coil pack while leaving spark plugs in their original locations. I cleared the Code - Drove around for a few days - Same code pops back up. Still on Cylinder 5..... So next I changed out all 6 Spark plugs with new (53k miles so it was time anyway). Checked condition of old ones, they all looked good and identical. Cylinder 5 plug did not look any different than the others. No carbon, not wet. So all 6 new OEM ones went in - cleared code again - Drove a Few Days - and back pops the same old Cylinder 5 code.
    Is Injector the next part I throw at this thing? Where do I go from here? Oh - and the car is not symptomatic at all. Maybe a little coughing on cold starts for first 15-20 secs, but then smooths out nice and drives perfectly fine. Just the damn code. What do you think?

    Hey Kern, I purchased 6 brand new injectors off of FCP. I used the tool to remove the injectors and all is well although I am at a loss trying to find the correct tool to compress the seals on my brand new injectors. I have purchased two different tools that are made for a B58 with no luck. All the tools are ether not big enough for the injector shaft itself or its to big to do anything to the seal to make it tighter.

    Another Great video @kern417, just reading the comments i noticed you said this can be done without the tool. Do you know the thickness of the alignment block? that seems like the only important piece in the kit to worry about for installation. i might 3d print a block of you can check the thickness for me?

    • @kern417
      @kern417  8 месяцев назад

      the actual thickness isn't that critical. the goal is to keep the screws adequately threaded but still leaving the injectors loose to wiggle into place. i was able to secure it just by looking at it

    Am I missing something or you did not screw injectors correctly? I have just looked at the BMW repair manual and it says that after 5Nm torque the injector pair screws must be tightened with 90 degrees angle of rotation. After that instruction says that, I quote: Release bolts (M6x70) (A) to (D).It is imperative that the bolts are unscrewed. :end of quote. These are the screws of the Fuel Rail to Cylinder Head. Afterwards you should torque them again to 5Nm and then tightened with 90 degrees angle of rotation. ⁉

    • @kern417
      @kern417  Год назад +1

      They torque everything twice with new bolts. I did not replace them. Torque specs are in the description.

    • @dgenov
      @dgenov Год назад

      @@kern417 I really appreciate your videos, they are great and I will use them when it comes to fix my B58. But I really believe you made a blunder about the torque specs. BMW uses torque to yield bolts with torque specs 5Nm + additional torque of 90 degrees of rotation. Does it make sense to reuse torque to yield bolt and torque it to just 5Nm. Please, think about it. In example, I replaced rod bearings on my older BMW and reused the old torque to yield bolts with original torque spec of 5Nm+20Nm+70 degrees and torqued bearing caps with substitute torque of 54Nm (I found somewhere guide how to make the conversion).

    • @kern417
      @kern417  Год назад +3

      @@dgenov 5 NM is literally nothing. Like a lot of people, I do what I want when working on my car. That often means reusing bolts, nuts, gaskets, etc that BMW quotes as one time use. If you don't want to then you don't have to, and I describe what BMW recommends in the video. But you're not going to ruin something by not following their procedure exactly. Especially when the spec is barely above hand tight.
