  • Muskegon Michigan history and cartography is explored and examined from this vintage map that was originally produced in 1868. In the video we zoom in and look at various historical aspects that make this map so great. The map itself is a birdseye perspective map in that we get to see changes in landscape, building architecture, ships and much more in a 3d perspective.

Been here for 60 years. I was born here and will die here. It's cool seeing the old map but I was really hoping to see historical photos and video and/or pix of current places compared to the past. We also have interesting things like the grave of "the man with the branded hand", Hackley Park with the Civil War monuments, the grave of gangster Dutch Anderson (who was killed here in a shootout), the old artist colony where Buster Keaton (sp?) and others had summer homes, Hackley Library with the glass floor, the Indian cemetery, the intricate homes of lumber barons Hackley and Hume, the nautical museum next to an authentic docked WWII submarine, etc. I love my city and live in one of the oldest townships in the United States. Thanks for sharing the early history, though.

The one thing really made the lumber industry take off was the “ Chicago Fire”.

Indians used to own it before Europeans arrival and they occupy it to this days. The lord said (well your lord) says the wages of sin per commandment # 7 say hell awaits unrepentant thieves. And that sole thought makes me justifiably.....very happy. Burb baby burn
