The nostalgia of this deck for me is crazy. Back in the day I had a borderpost wildfire deck that I played in modern. Love the content keep up the great work.
Same! This is one of my first favorite decks archs. Back in Saga when it was played with Voltaic Key, Grim Monolith and other manafacts including a NON planeswalker Karn, Silver Golem lol...ahhh...great video.
Planeswalkers made Wildfire a brutal lockout piece. This deck archetype of running red PWs with Wildfire/Burning of Xinye to establish a presence, then lock down the board and let the walkers win is one of my favorites.
Deck is called Eminent Domain, and RUclips has tons of vids covering it from several years ago. BTW, it usually has Frost Titan as it's finisher, which makes it doubly cool!
@@Control4DazeI don't know if he meant this one, but there was a blue-red wildfire in Standard about 15 years ago. It stole lands with Annex and Confiscate, while ramping into a wildfire at the same time. I don't know what year it was, but Ravnica was in standard - I remember this deck played Remand.
I love Wildfire! As a longtime Dice Factory fanatic, wildfire was a classic finisher that left just your charged up Astral Cornucopia and your opponent with absolutely nothing. I've been mostly on Dimir or colorless Dice Factory lately, but I kinda want to try Red dice factory out again after seeing this video
The original shell for wildfire was similar - a mostly colorless deck with grim monolith, thran dynamo, voltaic key…Covetous Dragon and Cursed Scroll as finishers…the deck was POWERFUL!
Just when I was about to take the Wildfire deck out of the budget battle box at home... still proving in 2024 Wildfire can still take games, in a metagame with Counterspell. Wow. I'll instead opt to update the deck.
Man, I remember when I was a kid someone had Kai Budde's gold bordered 1999 world championship wildfire deck. I remember Temporal Aperture being one of my favorite cards at the time because of that deck. Love this modern version of that old thing.
What a crazy card Temporal Aperture was…Saga and Masques block is the time in mtg history where I look back with such fond memories. I miss those days 😢
You know what I like about this deck? It challenges conventional wisdom for the modern format. Ask most players and they will tell you that you're not going to do well in modern with a top end of 6 mana that doesn't have a lot of ramp, that mana rocks aren't that good in modern, that a bulk rare of Tarkir block isn't work running. Decks like this give me hope for my own decks to perform well :)
I always get super hyped when I can play with an old card and make it work present day. Getting this one to come together took a lot of tinkering, but we made it work 🙌🏼
Deck looks sweet! Curious about when the Flame Blitz can be safely played though since the planeswalkers seem to be the win con (aside from the demoralization win, of course!)
In testing, I kept running into the same problem…I couldn’t deal with planeswalkers. Flame Blitz was the best solution I could find, but you’re right, it’s a big nombo. I couldn’t find another solution, unfortunately.
I fricking love this style of deck!! (big mono red fan here). Im curious what you think of swapping the ramp/pillage package and add a prison package (blood moon/ensnaring bridge), this way you can deal with today's mana hungry competitive decks and agressive rhino/draco crap. Let me know what you think !!
I didn’t want to add blood moon bc it would become too much like the meta mono-red decks that were out there…I was trying to be different. Bridge seems reasonable. I tried a few different variations of the list before settling on this one. This one performed the best 🙌🏼
I think being on the play is probably pretty important…but ultimately, I didn’t factor the control matchup in too much when I was building out the sb…simply bc it’s not highly represented right now. Chandra and the 1-Ring are the keys to getting the W.
Haha those games were the stuff nightmares are made of for Tron gamers 😱 I actually didn’t have moon in the maindeck believe it or not…blowing up lands is more fun than turning them into mountains.
