Ben, Great video! I have been following you for a little over a year now and your videos never disappoint. Your editing is spot on and needs to be recognized. Well done. Cheers to you 🍻
I've been interested in getting into this for a while now. Drove out Saturday since it was a reasonable distance from home just to be a spectator and drink in that energy. I know its more an event for pilots than for the public, so it kind of felt like some sort of imposter syndrome, but just being around it solidified what I needed to do. I'm moving things around now to book training and make this real so that maybe by next year I might have the confidence to join in the skies with everyone.
During every fly-in event I have attended, I have observed a consistent issue with individuals disregarding established rules and regulations. Specifically, there have been instances where individuals have set up their equipment in front of others who were already in position to fly. To address this problem, it is essential to have someone in a position of authority who can enforce the rules and ensure that all participants adhere to them.
There may be some of those issues, but it feels like it might be less of a problems at Bad Apples because the field is quite large and there are Air Bosses who help coordinate the launching to some degree.
Yeah, in the US ultralight aircraft are subject to FAR103 which says we can not fly over congested areas such as an assembly of people or settlement. Also, we cannot fly in a way that is hazardous to people or property. So many flying event organizers make the rule simple to avoid interpretation... don't fly over campers.
Excellent post. Sorry I missed you, Ben. I did not arrive until Saturday and I left on Sunday. Blue skies!
