mo KAY I don`t see any evidence of him living out any gay fantasies. Totally the opposite. I think he is so cautious not to risk being seen to do that, and therefore the heat has been turned down several notches since some of the story lines and scenes (male nudity and such) which have been displayed on Hollyoaks before. After he got the same job with Eastenders, and was slammed even before he had begun with accusations he would turn Eastenders more sleazy, he seems to have gone the other way. Eastenders was actually toned down after he took the helm, and after he returned to Hollyoaks he has persistently steered away from nudity and more. Hollyoaks Later is gone, and I don`t think there has been a single nude scene (showing actual nudity) on Hollyoaks since 2015? Some years before there were at least a handful a year. From Darren`s Naked Chef stunt in the Dog, to Naked butlers audition the same place, there has been many over the years. Most in Hollyoaks Later and Hollyoaks in the City (spin off), but also many in ordinary Hollyoaks episodes.
When you think about it, it is actually kind of ironic someone seems to believe nude bodies to be too harmful to show, in case innocent children should be watching - but story lines involving serial killers, prostitutes, rape and self-harming apparently dont represent any problems whatsoever.

mo KAY Sorry, but get your facts straight. The year Hollyoaks had the most gay/lesbian/bisexual characters at one time - 8 - (before at present with 10) was in 2011-12. At that time Bryan Kirkwood was the EP for Eastenders, before returning to Hollyoaks late in the year 2012. And both the gay character George, a lesbian girl in the same uni group of friends and the teacher she ended up having an affair with, was introduced while Kirkwood was away, being EP of Eastenders. Besides, ALL the other soaps, Eastenders, Emmerdale, Corrie, The Bill and Family Affair, plus the longer versions, Casualty, Holby City, London Burning had gay characters prior to 2006, when Brian Kirkwood began as EP of Hollyoaks the first time. So to claim he should have some kind of different agenda to other Hollyoaks EPs or EPs of other soaps, is simply not right. There has been hired gay actors/actresses and been gay/lesbian/bisexuals and transgender characters in many other shows, and played by both straight and gay actor/actresses too.
So to claim Bryan Kirkwood should have some secret agenda to what he is doing, is simply neither fair, nor accurate.
For many years it was thought the ratio of gay compared to straight people of the population was was between 5-10% gays. Those estimates have been revised, and with inclusion of both bisexuals and transgender the real number might be more accurately placed between 25-40% of the population. With a higher ratio for those countries and cultures more accepting of the various groups, suggesting gay acceptance and inclusion is more important to the number of gays/lesbians/bisexuals/transgenders, than biologi is. Suggesting again there probably are more people pretending to be the straight, than there are openly gay(lesbian/bisexual/transgender people in the world. Particularly the last group is more commonly found hidden behind their own four walls, than out in society as a whole.
Viewed from that point of view, soaps probably are more likely to be under represented in the number of gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender people, than the opposite.
It also has been suggested the term known as gay for pay has been established as a sort of alibi for gays/bisexuals in countries and cultures where gays are not held in high regard, and they therefore feel safer putting on a front.
PS: As long as the UK still remains a member of the EU it is against the law to both hire or not hire somebody based on their sexual preferences. Therefore you by your claim is actually accusing Bryan Kirkwood of breaking the law - which again means he could (should he want to) sue you.
mo KAY In Kirkwood time as EP Mercedes slept around with every guy too. Hollyoaks had gay story lines prior to the time he became EP - and so did many other soaps (Eastenders had the first gay kiss between two gay regulars as early as 1995-96). Bryan Kirkwood was EP during the famous Craig and JP coming out story line, and also the Ste and Brendan one, but he was neither the first, nor the only one, to have previously thought to be straight characters come out as gay, or to include gay characters. Both Eastenders, the Bill and Coronation Street had done that before Hollyoaks. But even though Hollyoaks had had gay characters included also before Bryan Kirkwood became EP, I`ll grant you it is fair to say he was the first - in Hollyoaks - to give a gay couple such a high profile story line as Craig and JP, and Ste and Brendan, got. And the success he had with those - especially Brendan - lay the foundation for Emmerdale having Aaron Dingle come out as gay and Eastenders turn little campy Ben Mitchell into bad gay boy Ben Mitchell. But to claim Kirkwood favors gay cast or characters over straight ones, is highly unfair. There has been hired both during his time as EP of Hollyoaks - and he has had gay actors playing straight, and straight actors playing gay as well. But to be able to spin romantic story lines around gay characters, there needs to be more than one or two of them, otherwise the story lines would be predictable and boring. That is something Kirkwood has realized, and therefore Ste - because he is the gay character who has been there the longest - has slept or had relationships with several different male characters. But Emmerdale` long time gay character Aaron Dingle, has slept with both of the other younger gay characters of that show too (Robert and Finn). Plus some introduced to the show for the very purpose of becoming Aaron`s boyfriend, or quick lay. So to say Kirkwood stands out from his EP colleagues on other shows in that respect, is neither fair nor accurate.
In regard to the rent boy story line, that is actually "copied" from a story line involving Emmerdale`s gay character Finn. Just as Aaron Dingle and Ben Mitchell was "inspired" by the success of Hollyaoks` Brendan, and the Amy Barnes killing "influenced" by Eastenders success with the Lucy Beale killing, Emmerdale were ahead of Hollyoaks with a gay escort story line.
So I am afraid your claim Kirkwood to have a gay agenda is based on prejudices, and not facts. Since there isn`t anything to suggest Kirkwood either discriminate against neither cast members or characters based on sexual preferences, and also all the other soaps have both gay and straingt story lines and characters.

Absolutely agree. And since Ste is so quick to respond, despite having a few seconds to think, he can`t exactly have been totally without interest in Ryan either. A friend of mine actually suggested Ste, because he talked so much about Ryan all the time, have been secretly in love with him for a long time. But because he was Amy`s fiance and his own kids` stepdad to be, felt bad about it, and covered it up with aggression. He also suggested Ryan`s reasons for wanting Amy to get custody of the kids, and to move away to the US, was so he could avoid meeting Ste, because he was afraid either Amy or Leah or Lucas should discover he fancied Ste, should the two of them runt the risk of meeting each other too often. He even had this theory that the reason Ryan had Joel on speed dial, and knew him well enough for Joel to go visit his father at Ryan`s say so, was that Joel - when a junkie - had had a past as a rent boy. And because his pimp had encouraged him, cause a friend in the police couldn`t hurt, had pretended to fall in love in love with Ryan, and had had a long time secret relationship with him.
Ryan treated him very well, which in turn gave Joel increased confidence and self-respect, enough so that he eventually found the strength to become clean. And since the programme he ended up in was run by the catholic church, he ended up a believer and decided to become a priest to. My friend, who had a Google plus page where he wrote new twists to Hollyoaks story lines and characters - brought in a few new ones too, created a very exciting and dramatic little tail where Joel didn`t give up the priesthood after getting together with Cleo. Encouraged by one of the other priests, who thought Joel was too valuable for the church to lose, he kept on seeing Cleo while functioning within the church. And when two more conservative priests suspected something, the priest who had encouraged Joel put a stop to them, threatening to reveal they had covered up sexual assaults committed by another priest years earlier. So if they told on Joel, they would face some music themselves too.
But one day Joel was unfortunate enough some gay porn films he had participated in, was re-released online. And what was even more unfortunate, one of the conservative priests was a keen viewer of such material, and recognized Joel. He anonymously sent a memory stick with the movie in question to the church. I cant remember all the details, but the memory stick the first time was viewed by the priest who had encouraged Joel to stay on in the church while seeing Cleo. He knew Joel had a past as drug addict, and therefore didn`t forward the memory stick, but brought it to Joel.
I can`t remember exactly what happened next, but the porn watching priest - when nothing happened, sent a memory stick anonymously also to a newspaper. But the journalist not realizing what the sensation was with the gay porn video, took it to the police, where Ryan was the detective he talked to. Ryan promised to look into the case, and inform the journalist exclusively when the investigation had come so far it would be safe to reveal it in the press. But because of the risk of evidence being destroyed, the journalist had to wait before publishing anything.
Ryan got the envelope the memory stick had been in forensically tested, and the saliva on the envelope matched DNA from a man picked up for kerb crawling 5 years earlier - the porn watching priest. But since Ryan also had recognized Joel, he didn`t bring the priest in for questioning - fearing he could make matters worse for Joel by doing so, if this priest was gunning for Joel for personal reasons. Instead he set up a trap for the porn watching priest, using a rent boy, and arrested the priest together with the rent boy, who he released immediately after the prist was in the interview room. There Ryan told him he would let him out with only a warning, but only because he wouldn`t make difficulties and bad press for the church where his good friend Joel was studying to become a priest. As long as Joel was at that church, the priest`s secret would be safe, Ryan assured him. Banking on whatever the priest had for reason to want Joel kicked out from the church, he would be discouraged from attempting to execute anything of the sort now, Ryan sent the priest home.
After having been shown the memory stick by Ryan, Joel thought long and hard what he should do - eventually deciding to tell Cleo everything. So he told her that he, when he had been on drugs, soon had discovered selling his body was a quicker and more secure way of getting what was needed for his daily shot of heroine, than first stealing something, and then try to sell it. Therefore he had become a prostitute. And after a having done that for a while, he discovered there was both more money, and less disgusting partners, in porn, so he began doing that instead. He also told Cleo about the police man his pimp/manager had found it wise of him to keep in his good books, and that he therefore had pretended to fall for this police man, and engaged in sex - later a full relationship with him. Even, Joel admitted, started to genuinely care for him - and had it not been for the confidence and self-respect Joel got from being with someone who genuinely cared for him, he would never have found the strength to quit heroine and get clean. He owed that man a lot, he said - but he didn`t reveal his identity.
If he came back for you, Cleo asked him, would you..?
Fifty-fifty, Joel honestly told her - and said something about it not being easy to push out of your heart the one who had cleared it for all the rubbish and stinking shit.
All in all it was a very different to Hollyoaks, and very engaging story, I couldn`t possibly do justice here. unfortunately the Google plus account has been deleted, it was hacked as I understood. And since I have been unable to find any of those twists to Hollyoaks story lines and characters again. Pity, cause I am sure Harry would never have become a prostitute in on of those.

Mercedes has slept with many more men, same goes for Cindy - Darren quite a few of the females too. Because all those three characters, just like Ste, has been on the show a long time, it is perfectly natural for them to be involved with many characters. And since gay characters are in a minority, Ste have less options than Darren, Cindy or Mercedes have. Liam, in his first episode, was romantically linked to both Celine and Tegan. Dodger managed quite a few during his time on the show, so did Theresa. Ste is far from the only one.

I don't understand why Ryan has to leave the show if he killed a person. Mercedes killed Browning, Warren killed Louise, Grace killed Eva (and her baby) and Joel took part in killing Katy, yet the audience are loving their characters and wanting them to stay? I personally feel that Ryan should stay in the show so #Styan can happen.
Soap fan I think it depends if the actor plans on leaving the show too, like the guy who played Warren. Why not leave with a bang by kidnapping one of your children.
This was exactly my thought when we found out it was Ryan and I was still shipping them. I'm like, we even loved Ste with Brendan and how many people did he kill?! I love Brendan. And I know it will upset Starry shippers, but Harry is not right for Ste. But I can see Ste with Ryan. Way before Amy died I kept thinking that STYAN would be hotter together and Ryan should break it off with Amy. Didn't really have murder in mind, but yeah, all the same... STYAN!

I feel that one is addressed to me. And therefore must defend my view. The reason I like the Ryan and Ste pairing is firstly that it makes sense. If Ryan (and Ste) have been attracted to each other the whole time - but for Amy and the kids` sake tried to not go there - that would explain both why Ste always talked so much about Ryan, and was so obsessed with hating him (he needed to, to cover up - and deny to himself - the fact he felt attracted to him) and also why Ryan was so determined Amy should get full custody of the kids, and later wanted them to move to America (he needed to get Ste at a safe distance, cause he feared either Amy or the kids eventually would discover how much he liked Ste). Ryan and Ste together also would, realistically because of the blackout issue, be the only way Ste could be with his kids 24/7 - and therefore both would have made him and the kids very happy. What I would have changed with the story line, however, was that I would have made Armstrong - and not Ryan - be Amy`s killer. That whole nonsense about having Ste charged and prosecuted for having killed Amy, when if Ryan killed, she was killed at a time Ste either was in the woods calling his dealer, or with Tony and Dianne, and likewise the window of opportunity Ste could have had to have killed Amy, at that time Ryan either was with his father in law in a club, or somewhere with Kyle. Consequently, since Hollyoaks made the choice of having Ste charged and prosecuted for having killed Amy, they couldn`t have had Ryan as the real killer, cause the time of death would have been either too late for Ste to be a suspect - or too soon for Ryan to be one, since both of them had solid alibis for when the other could have killed Amy. As it is the story line simply makes no sense at all from a logical point of view. And therefore must be said to be quite poor as a whodunit.
Therefore, since it is logically impossible for Ryan to have killed Amy all the time Ste was prosecuted for the same killing, I choose to ignore the silly twist of making Ryan Amy`s killer, and choose to see him as a gay man who is so afraid of his own sexuality, he both goes to bed with any female letting him, just to convince himself he isn`t gay - and also acts aggressively towards men he feels attracted to, to camouflage his true feelings for them. Cause he knows, that if he didn`t, it would only be a matter of time before his secret was out.
Personality wise, and because they both have in common their memories of Amy, they are also likely to have the best chance of finding happiness with each other, than with anybody else. Plus the fact there is two kids involved, might keep them from straying too?
Harry`s history with James is one of being either exploited or manipulated - James even extorted Harry to help him con Harry`s own father, and introduced him to prostitution. How Harry and James could have a chance of finding happiness together - or more specifically how Harry could be happy living with someone who had done that to him and his family, and therefore whose very presence would be a constant reminder, is beyond me.

Oh my days! Today I was talking to one of my best friends (huge fan of hollyoaks like me) about if she likes harry and James better than harry and set and she agreed, after that i said that Ryan and Ste should be a couple as well and now this happened!

Ste and Ryan would have been great - had not Ryan been Amy`s killer, and Ryan on his way out because Duncan James will be touring with Blue most of 2018. But Harry and James I hope will never come to be. James is a ruthless psychopath who prefer manipulative games over genuine connections with real people. Harry would likely have been much more happy with Kyle, who shares Harry`s all in attitude when it comes to win over the man he wants.

Had it not been for the catastrophic decision of Hollyoaks to make Ryan Amy`s killer - instead of the far more logical Armstrong - Ryan and Ste (Ryst) would probably could have been a very successful match. But with Duncan James leaving the screen in the summer, touring with Blue at that time, there is unfortunately not going to be much future in such a pairing. I also fear Ryan will be leaving in a coffin, since it will be near impossible to have him receive justice for having killed Amy through the courts, the state of the evidence being as weak as they are.

I beyond hate Ryan and I need him to be in jail now. There's no way in hell that they'll ever become anything close to an item, but (consensual) angry/hate sex is very much a thing. Never experienced it myself, but I have friends that have gotten so into it that they end up with bruises.
