Ethan didn't put 20 hours into the game because one of the earliest cutscenes introduces the fisherman who then gives you a fishing rod lmao that's like 10-20 minutes in.
Scar Yeah but who the hell ignores the letter from an NPC while you're still basically in the tutorial section of the game. There's legit no way that you could've gone 20 hours through the game without even once fuckin walking to the beach and seeing that there's a dude who sells fishing gear. Not only that there's also the daily quests and shit where villagers ask for fish occasionally. So even if you never went to the beach in 20 hours of gameplay you'd still find out that there's fishing.
He's probably just dumb. My little cousin just got into gaming and I suggested Stawdew Valley. He went through spring and half of summer without knowing how to buy seeds. Lmao
Harvest moon, stardew valley and animal crossing healed my depression, there's just something about seeing your effort and time investment pay off in a somewhat accelerated way, it just tricks your brain into feeling like it's worth it to get out there and do something, those are the type of games that counteract nihilism myth of sisyphus style.
Thank you for sharing this. My husband struggles with depression too and when I found out he's never played any farming sims I suggested Stardew Valley. He's been so much more relaxed and happy. When Albert Camus said "One must imagine Sisyphus happy." in his book The Stranger he was basically saying "You can find joy in the grind."
