- "I had a crazy idea and was looking for musicians who perhaps didn’t think it was so insane..." - Dave Alvin

"Clocking in at just over seventeen minutes, the tune is a slow-burning groover that encapsulates the chemistry that exists within The Third Mind.” - Glide Magazine Video Premiere
"At its core, this acid-soaked rendition of The Paul Butterfield Blues Band’s sprawling blues rocker manages to honor the original while offering up a mind-expanding interpretation." - Glide Magazine Video Premiere
"What was sent to me for mixing sounded amazing but the band was looking for something different on the remix. I took my cue from the guitars and thought that slowing the whole thing down could really instill a whole different body language, make more space for the playing, and create a bigger, more psychedelic tone. I think it worked!!” - Tchad Blake on the Remix of East West.
“Dave Alvin loves Mike Bloomfield, and Immy owned one of Bloomfield’s old Telecasters. With Dave wanting to stretch out, Paul Butterfield Band’s "East West" seemed like the perfect song for The Third Mind project to dig in to. It was the first thing we recorded on the first day we were ever all in a room at the same time. It went better than I could have imagined." - Victor Krummenacher

I love anything Dave Alvin has a hand in.
This project is like an Americana version of 'Bitches Brew'.
It's not Americana just because Alvin leads the band. Guitar and bass are two former members of Camper Van Beethoven. It's pure freakout psych blues. The original, though bluesier, basically invented the West Coast style of psych although it was Chicago-born.
Love these guys. I wish they would tour the East Coast. I Saw Mike Jerome a few months ago with Richard Thompson. These guys all have their own gigs. Awesome stuff. Alvin is something else.
How have I not heard this before. Amazing!
First, Sally Goes Round The Roses, and now, East West ?! (I just heard of this band today lol)
Oh I'm intrigued that's for sure.
This is fab.
Wait, hold on a second, let me peel my brain off the ceiling...
If Third Mind is playing anywhere near your town, do not miss them!
This is freaking glorious. CD purchased before the song completed.
Of course, I hear the unmistakable Monks of Doom sound intertwined here naturally! Added bonus to hear my old friend Michael J playing with some of my favorite cats. Amazing track all the way through...
Somewhere in the ethers, Mike Bloomfield and Paul Butterfield.are smiling.
Dyno. Mites.
An amazing piece from the annals of prog rock, perhaps the first. Paul Butterfield...
Not really prog rock so much as proto acid rock and raga rock. Regardless, it rocks, as does the original.
@@billgreen2348 Yeah, they kind of invented the West Coast psych jam style, though they were pure Chicago blues/jazz cats. Mike Bloomfield was one of the best guitarists of the 60s, and that's saying something.
Dave Alvin does it all. More concert dates... MI would be nice.
The future of music. Brilliant.
