He is portraying the dark side of his ego, that part we all have, that constantly antagonizes him from the back of his mind in the name of "reason" and "keeping it real." In many religious circles, including traditional Judaism and ancient Christian roots, Satan is called "The Adversary" and fulfills this role for each of us, which is why Ren ends up breaking down into a section identifying as Lucifer. At the end, when he's "lecturing" you, what he's really doing is telling you his truth and the background of why he wrote the song in the first place. He's giving context. He had a record contract with Sony but got Lyme disease and was misdiagnosed with mental illness. Doctors gave him medications that ended up inducing medical psychosis while the Lyme disease ravaged his body and gave him an autoimmune disorder among other horrible medical issues. Despite his myriad health issues, he ended up pursuing his musical career, inventing his own musical style called "bardcore," and becoming incredibly successful. You should really give him more respect.

Ren sings, raps, produces, directs, plays multiple instruments and more. I think you guys would like his Nas Halftime Retake, Murderer & The Hunger. Those aren't as deep in the first layer. All of his music is layered. His Hip Hop album Sick Boi was his first number 1 album on the UK charts.

Ren is a journey. For many of us this song triggered a journey down a rabbit hole. Obviously you know this song went and continues to be pretty viral. This isn't even the song that showcases the best of his storytelling. It's not the song that shows the best of his singing, his rapping, or his showmanship. Ren could have been a big thing at a very young age before he got sick. And now he is a big thing because he got sick, in the way I remember underground artists got big in the 80s and 90s: word of mouth. Ren comes from Wales, part of the UK. He was mistreated for mental disorders and other issues for 8 years (and being told that his problems were all in his head) before he was finally, and correctly, diagnosed with Lyme disease - by which time all the damage to his body had been done. For the last year or so he has been in Canada receiving stem cell treatment to try and repair as much of the damage as they can.
He's not receiving stem cell treatment. He's had 2 stem cell transplants in the past but the treatments in Calgary have consisted of a whole range of treatments, mostly experimental. They reckon they've successfully rid his body of Lyme's and are trying to repair some of the damage to his body and brain. Some associated pathogens are also proving more difficult to eradicate. He also retains his severe autoimmunity, unfortunately, largely because it's caused by another chronic condition, Mast Cell Disease or MCAS, which he also has. It's also more worrying than Lyme's, in some ways, as it can't be halted, only slowed.

After listening to a hundred or more of reactions to Hi Rene, it amazes me how different responses are and the wide range of emotional reaction to it. Some people so totally get it; it moves their soul, changes their life and others not so much, meh. Sometimes people are neutral and sometimes they cant hear it at all. He's not receiving stem cell treatment. He's had 2 stem cell transplants in the past but the treatments in Calgary have consisted of a whole range of treatments, mostly experimental. They reckon they've successfully rid his body of Lyme's and are trying to repair some of the damage to his body and brain. Some associated pathogens are also proving more difficult to eradicate. He also retains his severe autoimmunity, unfortunately, largely because it's caused by another chronic condition, Mast Cell Disease or MCAS, which he also has. It's also more worrying than Lyme's, in some ways, as it can't be halted, only slowed.

After listening to a hundred or more of reactions to Hi Rene, it amazes me how different responses are and the wide range of emotional reaction to it. Some people so totally get it; it moves their soul, changes their life and others not so much, meh. Sometimes people are neutral and sometimes they cant hear it at all. There is no wrong way to hear Ren, it's just interesting. A journey in itself.

I recommend that you continue listening to any of his songs. Maybe you´d like Power (one of his own favorites) or Genesis, both talk about himself and his struggles, but I think you might find them more digestible.

He's self taught on drums, guitar, bass, piano and beatboxer. He writes, produces, directs and films, with his friend, all his videos, mostly one takes. He can rap, play guitar, drums, bass, piano and his singing voice is excellent. He also have a band The Big Push when he rock'n roll with his mates, street busking in Brighton 🇬🇧 He Almost died at 26 because of Lyme disease. And was misdiagnosed from 19 to 26 years old. He's 34 now. Also Nas retake is a banger. 👍 🇳🇴

He speaks through the lens of his own experience, so they feature because they've been a big part of his experience. He's suffered like you wouldn't believe. Btw, one of the lines is now redundant, as he became the first fully independent artist to achieve a numnber 1 album, knocking Drake off the top spot. It also went top 10 in several other countries, topped the US hip-hop album chart and topped the worldwide iTunes chart!
Btw, if you think this is Ren showing you 'all his talent' you're in for a shock! You have no idea of the breadth and depth of his talent, in all genres! Keep reacting to Ren. You'll be amazed and will understand why every label under the Sun has tried to sign Ren and why he's received praise from across the music industry! The thing is, you need to listen. Ren's a master lyricist, amongst many other talents, and his wordplay is on another level. It also helps if you're mature enough to allow yourself to feel the emotion in his work, rather than laugh it off, embarrassed, like teenage boys, lol. Don't worry though, not all his stuff is heavy. Plenty of it is pure fun and he has a wicked sense of humour! :)
