Its all about context. Do I want to finish 8th but win an FA Cup? We did that in 2020, just like Utd did now, and I much rather have a season where we play CL and compete for the league title. Because when you actually watch Arsenal, its a lot more fun when you are winning games most weekends. We should do better in Cups, but the league title and CL are the only trophies that take our club forward. Besides, when you are competing with the wealthiest club in the world who got a record number of pts in the league, won a treble and are the first team to win 4 trophies is a row, than it doesnt make sense to judge a manager on things he cannot control. And we simply cannot control what city do. So we should aim for lets say 90 plus pts in the league this time, but we cant be demanding league titles as long as City are still there. Its all about context. Do I want to finish 8th but win an FA Cup? We did that in 2020, just like Utd did now, and I much rather have a season where we play CL and compete for the league title. Because when you actually watch Arsenal, its a lot more fun when you are winning games most weekends. We should do better in Cups, but the league title and CL are the only trophies that take our club forward.
Besides, when you are competing with the wealthiest club in the world who got a record number of pts in the league, won a treble and are the first team to win 4 trophies is a row, than it doesnt make sense to judge a manager on things he cannot control. And we simply cannot control what city do. So we should aim for lets say 90 plus pts in the league this time, but we cant be demanding league titles as long as City are still there. I think it’s the same thing as Ten Hag at United. Unless you’re doing absolutely nothing for the club, there are just no elite managers out there at the moment who can do better. In Arteta’s case truly challenging for all the major honours on offer. In Ten Hags case winning two major trophies without challenging for any of the top honours at all. I think it is worth both Manchester Utd and arsenal sacrificing one year out of their whole entire history and future to be absolutely sure that they are 1. Definitely making sure that they are right to be replacing their manager and 2. Definitely being sure that there is the right manager out there to be wanting to replace them with otherwise you’re just gonna be living with this what if feeling forever. You should expect progress in two years, and there should be pressure on the team to win trophies. The fact that Arteta has won fewer trophies than ten Hag (excluding the Community Shield because it's not really a trophy) is not a good look. Ultimately it’s all about trophies. Second place is the first loser. Where Arteta has made progression, for me he has 2 seasons to bag the league or champions league. If he fails then he needs replacing before this group of players start to seek silverware elsewhere.
