If the Sixers’ big three are healthy and if Embid is in good shape and stops falling down trying to draw fouls, yeah, maybe. But that’s a big if. And they only have a 2 year window if that before that PG contract is an albatross.

I disagree with this whole big 3 dialogue around the sixers. They have a strong starting 5. Kelly oubre is no scrub and gave the Knicks trouble in the post season. He was a good scorer. Caleb martin elevates in the playoffs, gives the Celtics issues and shoots over 40% in the post season. Drummond really helps with rebounding, and keeping Joel healthy. PG and Drummond should resolve the non Embiid minutes constant breakdowns. It’s a typical story for the sixers to be up and doing well in a game. Have Joel sit down and fall behind 15 pts in that time. They need to sure up their bench a bit still or need McCain, council or Bona to play a legit role off the bench this year. I think they have a solid starting 5 (better and taller then the Knicks) and decent bench. I still think the biggest issue for the sixers is rebounding - bc Knicks don’t necessarily win off sheer talent half of it is offensive rebounding. I would consider the sixers starting 5 similar if not better then the nuggets starting 5. ESPN needs to stop discussing them as a big 3. PG is similar to what holiday was to the Celtics for them.

The best defensive, offensive, and rebounding etc team, with a deep roster of players that are fluid/versatile both offensive and defensively. The Celtics honestly are a truly ELITE team that has just started peaking. The Boston Celtics are truly the biggest threats to themselves. A healthy Celtics team is just a tier above everyone else in the East.

Chance of one of them getting injured and missing time in playoffs seems at least 60% ... combined with the fact PG also doesn't really perform that well in playoffs.... 76ers depend entirely on health of an aging starting lineup. The Knicks were the 2nd best team in the East LAST YEAR despite Randle, OG and Mitch missing most of the season and Bojan not getting on the team until the last 2 months of the season. Not only are they getting Randle back (most disrespected player to average 25-9-4), but they swapped Bojan with Mikal who will undoubtedly play better for the Knicks than he did on the nets (just like Donte and Hart). I believed they were good enough to at least be competitive w the Celtics if they were healthy last year.
The Sixers have no depth. Paul George is not the player he once was, and asking both him and Embiid to stay healthy is a lot when they are both over 30 and already injury prone. I would say they are neck and neck with the Bucks, who’ve had a year to learn each others play style already and will most likely have a better season.

76ers beat the Knicks so comfortably next playoffs it’s not even a question. Knicks just lost Hartenstein who was incredible last year and they have no replacement for him, and Mitchell Robinson can’t stay on the court - and even when he does he sucks.
They’ve added some perimeter guys sure, but there’s only one ball and there’s 2 sides of the court. Sure everyone can shoot, and bridges is a great player. But nobody on that team can fathom guarding Embiid, Maxey will still torch them, and you have Paul George on the perimeter who shot over 45% on catch and shoot 3s last season.

It would be on thing if the new look Sixers had no depth, but the sixers have depth to match up with the Knicks and Celtics, and the Sixers have 3 guys that can give you 30+ any night. Knicks couldn't handle Maxey and Embiid when Tobi was averaging less than 10ppg, imagine how that changes with PG which they will have to guard. The Bucks with a healthy middleton and Dame are probably better than the Knicks as well. Brunson and a bunch of really good role players I don't think is better than a team with multiple stars and a bunch of role players. And Knicks still will have to figure out how to integrate randle.

Paul George is a good player. But he's a 34 or 35 year old injury prone player. Joel Embid is 31 and heavy seven footer who needs to be gentle so he doesn't have a season injury type season. I'm not sure if this core or the analyst understands 82 game seasons for certain ppayers

BOS faced a NYK team with OG for the first time, and you could see the difference it had on BOS wing players who couldn't get into the paint as easily. NYK blew out BOS. Now add Bridges, Randle and Mitchell Robinson and NYK are deeper and more formidable. NYK (if healthy) is the biggest threat to BOS in 2024-25.
