@CoolAlienFish32x Oh God, Japan is so odd on that kinda thing. Donald McDonald always made me laugh. It feels like a tongue twister to say in Japanese. I also loved the life-size Col Sanders statues posted at the door of every KFC. I took selfies with him at so many different KFCs in Tokyo and Hiroshima :D
This game had no business being as good as it was. I remember finally playing through the whole game as a teenager (after renting it a few times as a little kid) and being shocked at its quality. This isn't just nostalgic, it's a great game.
TREASURE are an insanely talented development company, also alot of the mechanics of this game carried over to DYNAMITE HEADDY , so think of treasure land as a Beta test for that game in a sense.
I love how friggin' intense the final boss music is for what's effectively you attempting to use Scooby-Doo doors as a vital part of your offense and defense.
I think it's neat how they integrated the other characters into the game. Well... all but one. Hamburgler: Pay him some gems and he tells you how to beat bosses. Birdie the Early Bird: Give her some Gems and she breaks free, opens the way out of the room for you, AND catches you after the boss fight at the end of the stage. Fry Kids: Bribe the guard and they form a bridge to let you get to the final boss. But Grimace? "Oh I'm sorry, i'm so tired I can't move my MASSIVE ASS out of the way of this door." A faithful recreation of the character, honestly.
Fun fact: There's a prototype of this game that has McDonald's food as the collectibles instead of the generic jewels and flowers (White flowers were soda, yellow flowers were fries, and the jewel and double jewels were burgers, with the latter being a double-beef burger instead of just two jewels), and the shop takes place in a McDonald's like in Donald Land. Now you know why the bosses like eating jewels for basically no reason!
Ooooooooooooooooh! That makes SO much sense! It's like, why does Grimmace want gems if he's tired? I hate it when they change things like that but not the text associated with it.
Holy crap, I actually rented it as a kid. It was so surreal and weird, and I never got far in it, but I will never forget it as long as I live. Edit: The first stage's music just hit my like a wave of deeply buried nostalgia...

I literally gasped when I saw this come up on my YT page right now. I love this game SO much. Treasure was at the top of their game arguably when they were just beginning, with masterpieces such as Gunstar Heroes, Dynamite Headdy, and Alien Soldier. Don't be fooled by the McDonald's license, this is the best McDonald's video game ever made, without question. Ronald's rarin' to go, shooting 3 tiers of upgradable magic at anyone who stands between him and the pieces of a treasure map! I adore everything about this game. Like Dynamite Headdy, it's just a brilliant platformer with beautiful graphics and music, a ton of charm, and is just generally deeply nostalgic, to me, at least. I highly recommend it to anyone who might not have been so lucky to grow up with this classic! ❤️
On a side note: Interesting, I just noticed that in this version of the game, you collect Flowers. In the version I've always played, it's Rings. I wonder why that is? Is this the PAL or Japanese version or something? Now that I'm fascinated, I wonder which version of the game is which. I've never seen this before.
@@therealseanw.stewart2071 tcrf.net/McDonald%27s_Treasure_Land_Adventure . That link to _The Cutting Room Floor_ says that in the Japanese & PAL versions of this game, they were Rings. They looked a little... _Sonic-y_ for a McDonald's game, so they were changed for the NTSC release. Meaning that Alex is playing the American version of the game. Also, the sprite for the Magic power up was changed as it looked like a sperm... Yeah. Y'know... McDonald's! For kids! Something minor is the title screen. The "L" in _Treasureland_ was originally an uppercase L. It looked off, so it's lowercased now. I prefer that change as it looks nicer. Lastly, an enemy in stage 3 was changed (The Tribal-looking dude you may remember) for an obvious reason. I'm assuming that you grew up with the PAL version. Is that right, Stewart?
Thanks for replying as usual, Scott. And yes, I believe it is definitely the PAL version. In addition, the music is a bit slower in this video's version compared to mine as well.
Far, far better than that Mick and Mack shit McDonalds themed game released on the same console. Difference here is clear, Treasure could make games, Virgin, and anyone else behind the Mick and Mack shit, clearly did NOT know how to make a game at all.

There was a portrait/picture hanging on a wall that has Grimace standing on a log down a river while hold onto a milkshake that I've seen inside a McDonald's Play Place over 15 years ago. Maybe that's why he represents as the milkshake character.
@@maverickhuntermeta4954 Good call. My parents never let me go into the play places.
