- Crypto boss Sam Bankman-Fried, who was convicted of fraud and money laundering last year, will be sentenced in New York on Thursday.
The former billionaire CEO faces decades in prison for fraud and conspiracy charges stemming from his role in the massive collapse of cryptocurrency exchange, FTX.
Prosecutors have said Bankman-Fried took more than $10bn (£7.9bn) from unsuspecting customers in "one of the biggest financial frauds" in US history.

25 years is a stiff sentence but community service compared to Madoff. Both just stole billions in customer funds via a business with no substance ultimately. Similarly Liz Holmes got less than half for knowingly putting life’s at risk.

Close, people can invest into Bitcoin via investments banks like Black Rock now. This was approved by the securities exchange commision on 10th January of this year. Since this was approved, billions of dollars have been used to buy bitcoin via the investment banks.
The ETF for Bitcoin did, yes...... but also, guess who hold a shit ton of Bitcoin? (I'll give you a hint...... it's the banks themselves, but they just don't want you to know.)

I stand with Sam here, he was "reallocating" money for a better cause...arguing that he used it for a "lavish lifestyle" is ridiculous, he always was humble and prudent in money spending. 13 million mansion (for the WHOLE team) is not an exception. Granted he played the capital game to harshly but I sincerely believe that his effective altruism ideology is based and just imagine how transformative of a change somebody with his mindset could have brought to our society. What a loss!! I m also deeply dissapointed by the public perception only focusing on surface level missmanagement technicalities. Just look at his main competitor Binance...they essentially almost got caught doing the same thing! Also the fact that Caroline so cold-heartedly betrayed him in court is beyond the pale...

It's not as straight forward as they're making out. They're giving people the value of their crypto e.g. bitcoin, based on the price it was at the very bottom of the market. It would be like you buying a £200,000 house. They steal the house from you. The house goes up in value to £800,000. They then give you £200,000 in cash and say you have been given all your money back. The house you can buy with that £200,000 is now 4x smaller than the house they stole from you.
