I have always for the past 10 years when my children started shopping with me around 6yrs old to ALWAYS KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS . I told them that if they don't have a receipt showings you paid for it, they will automatically say you stole it. Because some racist cashiers will not give a black child a receipt and call the cops and lie. My children and I always get a receipt even if its for one piece of bubble gum.

A Team At IHOP you pay at the cash register not at the table. So can't take receipts off tables unless someone pays before their party is finished eating and returns to table with a receipt.
If you are in the any store and have a bag with merchandise you should without a doubt have your receipt handy, and that applies to any race of person. Many countries overseas have places that that you can store your items, and will only let you enter their stores with a empty bag.
To the cops in this video: You detained the wrong people and accused them of dining and dashing when they clearly paid for their meals. You do NOT walk them back to where they ate their food and paid for it in the first place. It took the iHop manager to exonerate them.
I’ve had this happen to me before as well at WalMart. Had my receipt and confirmation from a cashier that i purchased an item and yet was detained and questioned anyway.
Keep your receipts for the day, Make sure you get;/keep hard copies of Rental Car Agreements when renting(not just on phone), Be aware if running to catch Public Trans etc. Always know where you parked in parking structures as to not walk around lost looking for your car, if visiting others in white neighborhoods know where they live/address. I travel alot. Each of these has been a problem with cops for me in the past. Being Black/Brown you are an instant suspect. Just the way it is!

Many years ago some coworkers and myself went out to dinner after work. To make a long story short, our waitress was very unprofessional and lied about a new cook (as an excuse for why our food wasn't serve in a timely fashion). Anyway, we paid our bill and tipped (despite the poor service). Walking across the lot to our car, we hear a man shout ," Hey, you have to pay for that!" Instead of showing the receipt outside we decided to go back in with him so everybody can see him apologize and refund our money! The lousy waitress literally lied. Unbelievable..

Police show up and question "black kids" who are the closest to the IHOP. Police saw receipts, manager confirmed it wasn't them, then let them go, no action taken. It's funny, I drove the waiter involved in this incident to his house from this iHop (I drive Lyft). This was a while after the incident. He is a young black man as well.... very calm and objective guy. Didn't make one complaint about what happened, in fact he smiled about it...was courteous and respectful the whole ride, and able to engage in intelligent conversation. Sharing this because I want to add one more young black male to the list of victims.

We didn't steal the beer and I obliged them because I didn't appreciate being accused of stealing when we didn't and they came to my home because of baggy clothes. Thing is they had a description of 5 black kids here, they stopped a group of 10...people do meet up with friends when they leave places. They are looking for people who left and didn't pay, why be offended, they are doing their job, they had their reciepts and the police went on their way to continue to look for the people who just ate for free...its a crime. Now if they were slammed up against a car and treated horribly even tho they produced their receipts then be angry, but how can you be angry about police doing their job and looking for people who just committed a crime? Its called investigating. Are they not supposed to ask people and just let them go "I'm sorry, the suspects are black and we are not allowed to stop black people and question them if a crime has been committed because its racist."....really. Have they ever heard of criminals having more than one article of clothing and discarding one to throw police off, hell we have seen it in helicopter footage of people taking off clothing to throw police off. Your comment makes no sense. There is a social contract between stores, restaurants, etc. and their customers. We agree to provide you with a meal, etc., you agree to pay us later. If the customer violates that and dines and dashes, the restaurant isn't equipped to catch, detain, arrest and get payment from them.

As a black man I agree there are times where police abuse their power and business owners treat blacks different than whites. This was not that instance. The police even by the kid’s account were very respectful and the kids were respectful of the police. The police stopped a group of black kids roughly matching the description of the group who left the ihop. The cops asked if they had been there, the kids said they had, while the kids did produce receipts, I can understand the police asking them to take a walk back to the restaurant to clear them. I can take a receipt from a restaurant without paying. The manager of the IHOP immediately cleared the kids when they got there. No one was cuffed. No one was put in a squad car, no guns drawn. The kids went on their way. At least this is how this interview made it all sound. It’s important to use outrage for when it’s actually warranted. It’s not warranted in this instance.
This is a BS story. Being questioned by the police and not taking into custody is not a violation of a persons rights. The students were stopped, questioned and determined not to be suspects. When I was in high school my friends and I had been stop and questioned just because we were in the area where a crime was committed. This is what the police should do.
Police do a lot of things, that doesn't make it lawful. In this case, the officers not only questioned the teens, at which time the teens presented receipts, the officers then detained them and THEN transported them back to the IHOP. The IHOP manager originally reported 5 teens, one with a red shirt. This young man was with 9 other teens - get it, 10 not 5! Ever heard of probable cause and illegal detainment. When I think of BS stories, your little attempt at joining an adult conversation comes to mind.

Honestly, this isn't really news worthy for a "major" news network. Also, the information the officers received was a very generic description of African American males not paying for their meal in an iHop. So of course the officers would approach the first group they'd encounter that matches the descripiption o settle this report as soon as possible since the longer they dwell, the lower the odds of finding the actual culprits. I'm glad that these young adults were mature enough to cooperate and not cause a scene. Many people (regardless of ethnicity) take situations like this an an opportunity to incite protesting and make it a big deal. In that regard, I'm glad that this group of young adults were mature, reasonable, and not automatically assuming the "race-card" and making a big deal out of this. Yes I realize that this is a "textbook case" of racial profiling and it is bad. But my point is that I'm glad that both the young adults and the police officers were cooperative with each other; regardless of how this would appear to be strongly suggestive of police officers racially profiling and making assumptions. Another point that I would like to make is that strictly speaking from a statistical perspective based on these situations, the actual African Americans that did the "dine and dash" are disappointing in that they're just exacerbating the situation and making African-Americans statistically more likely to commit crimes. This exacerbates the situation because innocent African Americans will be assumed to possibly match a description of a crime and when it is not that individual, and that individual decides to turn this into a big deal and get the news involved, rage, protest, post on social networking, etc ... That too I think exacerbates the situation as it just brings more unnecessary attention. I think that a possible better way to approach these racist situations and altercations is to settle it between the 2 parties involved. If you make a big deal out of it, people will make more assumptions, accusations, etc and that in itself causes more anger and outrage. It's basically an endless cycle of anger and hatred, when a more effective means is to settle it between the side involved. Yes it is a racism derived accusatory situation, but continuing to pursue the situation from that perspective doesn't really mitigate the problem. It just keeps feeding more attention to the problem.

I've been falsely accused of dine and dash before I even sat down and forced to pay before I got served. One diner didn't even want to serve me so they said they don't accept cash, only debit. I stood there and watched a white person pay with cash. When I said something to staff they threatened to call the police and claim I was making a scene, even though I was civil, calm and cooperative. I filmed this and despite clear evidence of discrimination every lawyer I called said that I didn't have a case. Indigenous people face discrimination by businesses and brutality by police too except we have nobody in our corner to look out for us. This makes us easy targets for racism.

I have always for the past 10 years when my children started shopping with me around 6yrs old to ALWAYS KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS . I told them that if they don't have a receipt showings you paid for it, they will automatically say you stole it. Because some racist cashiers will not give a black child a receipt and call the cops and lie. My children and I always get a receipt even if its for one piece of bubble gum.

Many years ago some coworkers and myself went out to dinner after work. To make a long story short, our waitress was very unprofessional and lied about a new cook (as an excuse for why our food wasn't serve in a timely fashion). Anyway, we paid our bill and tipped (despite the poor service). Walking across the lot to our car, we hear a man shout ," Hey, you have to pay for that!" Instead of showing the receipt outside we decided to go back in with him so everybody can see him apologize and refund our money! The lousy waitress literally lied. Unbelievable..

It's funny, I drove the waiter involved in this incident to his house from this iHop (I drive Lyft). This was a while after the incident. He is a young black man as well.... very calm and objective guy. Didn't make one complaint about what happened, in fact he smiled about it...was courteous and respectful the whole ride, and able to engage in intelligent conversation. Sharing this because I want to add one more young black male to the list of victims.

So they asked to enter my home and search my apt for the beer. We didn't steal the beer and I obliged them because I didn't appreciate being accused of stealing when we didn't and they came to my home because of baggy clothes. Thing is they had a description of 5 black kids here, they stopped a group of 10...people do meet up with friends when they leave places. They are looking for people who left and didn't pay, why be offended, they are doing their job, they had their reciepts and the police went on their way to continue to look for the people who just ate for free...its a crime. Now if they were slammed up against a car and treated horribly even tho they produced their receipts then be angry, but how can you be angry about police doing their job and looking for people who just committed a crime? Its called investigating. Are they not supposed to ask people and just let them go "I'm sorry, the suspects are black and we are not allowed to stop black people and question them if a crime has been committed because its racist."....really. Have they ever heard of criminals having more than one article of clothing and discarding one to throw police off, hell we have seen it in helicopter footage of people taking off clothing to throw police off. If the customer violates that and dines and dashes, the restaurant isn't equipped to catch, detain, arrest and get payment from them.

This was not that instance. The police even by the kid’s account were very respectful and the kids were respectful of the police.
The police stopped a group of black kids roughly matching the description of the group who left the ihop. The cops asked if they had been there, the kids said they had, while the kids did produce receipts, I can understand the police asking them to take a walk back to the restaurant to clear them. I can take a receipt from a restaurant without paying.
The manager of the IHOP immediately cleared the kids when they got there. No one was cuffed. No one was put in a squad car, no guns drawn. The kids went on their way. At least this is how this interview made it all sound.

This is a BS story. Being questioned by the police and not taking into custody is not a violation of a persons rights. The students were stopped, questioned and determined not to be suspects. When I was in high school my friends and I had been stop and questioned just because we were in the area where a crime was committed. This is what the police should do.

Honestly, this isn't really news worthy for a "major" news network.
Also, the information the officers received was a very generic description of African American males not paying for their meal in an iHop.
So of course the officers would approach the first group they'd encounter that matches the descripiption o settle this report as soon as possible since the longer they dwell, the lower the odds of finding the actual culprits.
I'm glad that these young adults were mature enough to cooperate and not cause a scene.
Many people (regardless of ethnicity) take situations like this an an opportunity to incite protesting and make it a big deal.
In that regard, I'm glad that this group of young adults were mature, reasonable, and not automatically assuming the "race-card" and making a big deal out of this.
Yes I realize that this is a "textbook case" of racial profiling and it is bad.
But my point is that I'm glad that both the young adults and the police officers were cooperative with each other; regardless of how this would appear to be strongly suggestive of police officers racially profiling and making assumptions.
Another point that I would like to make is that strictly speaking from a statistical perspective based on these situations, the actual African Americans that did the "dine and dash" are disappointing in that they're just exacerbating the situation and making African-Americans statistically more likely to commit crimes.
This exacerbates the situation because innocent African Americans will be assumed to possibly match a description of a crime and when it is not that individual, and that individual decides to turn this into a big deal and get the news involved, rage, protest, post on social networking, etc ... That too I think exacerbates the situation as it just brings more unnecessary attention.
I think that a possible better way to approach these racist situations and altercations is to settle it between the 2 parties involved. If you make a big deal out of it, people will make more assumptions, accusations, etc and that in itself causes more anger and outrage. It's basically an endless cycle of anger and hatred, when a more effective means is to settle it between the side involved.
Yes it is a racism derived accusatory situation, but continuing to pursue the situation from that perspective doesn't really mitigate the problem. It just keeps feeding more attention to the problem.

I have also experienced things like this before and a calm head always made the situation go better. But I can’t help but feel like they’re reaching for something that’s not there.
A lot of blacks have respect for police. I uploaded a recent video where a cop lied and said I was weaving. He then said the windows in my 2016 F150 were too dark. I bought this truck brand new with tinted windows. I find it hard to respect a cop who pull me over for bs.

Why does it make national news when it happens to blacks but not when it happens to whites? The EXACT same thing happened to a white kid and it never made it onto CNN. It's sad that you are falling for this race-baiting. Nothing wrong even happened in this case. Black kids left a restaurant without paying so the police were called. This kid claims he wasn't one of those kids. So it's a case of mistaken identity. Blacks don't have any special right to never be inconvenienced.

The United States allows more non-white immigrants than any nation on earth. Asians earn more than whites. So much for "muh white supremacy". If you want to look at racial supremacist countries, look to African nations and asian nations that keep their countries ethnically pure. If the United States was a white supremacist nation, then blacks and hispanics wouldn't be flooding into it (many breaking the law to do so). If anything, blacks are privileged by programs like affirmative action.

I've been falsely accused of dine and dash before I even sat down and forced to pay before I got served. One diner didn't even want to serve me so they said they don't accept cash, only debit. I stood there and watched a white person pay with cash. When I said something to staff they threatened to call the police and claim I was making a scene, even though I was civil, calm and cooperative. I filmed this and despite clear evidence of discrimination every lawyer I called said that I didn't have a case. Indigenous people face discrimination by businesses and brutality by police too except we have nobody in our corner to look out for us. This makes us easy targets for racism.
