The black francolin (Francolinus francolinus) is a gamebird in the pheasant family Phasianidae of the order Galliformes, gallinaceous birds. It was formerly known as the Black Partridge. It is the state bird of Haryana state, India (locally known as Kaala Teetar . In India: any of various partridge-like birds, especially francolins of the genus Francolinus.Teetar is Partridge and Batair is quail, which is a much smaller bird. Both commonly occur in stretches of scrub and grass. There are several species of partridges and several species of quails.Teetar is Francolin (grey Francolin in particular) and Batair is Quail (barred quail, jungle quail or bush quail etc.I have eaten, teetar, bater, duck.. In teetar also there are two varities, one which is home bred, the other jungli. The jungli ones are really tasty, but each of them weigh only about 150 gms, while the home bred ones are like 300-400 gms. In fact even the gaavnty chickens are really tasty.Birds can usually breed in their first year. Incubation: The clutch size is usually between 8 to 14 eggs, and the hen incubates the eggs for 18-19 days. The eggs are unusual being rounded and in a light, creamed-coffee, almost golden, color. Lifespan: Black Francolins generally live at least 7 years in captivity.Compared to chicken, for example, quail meat has similar amounts of protein and fat content.Quail meat has 4 times more vitamin C than chicken meat. Quail meat has over 3 times more iron than chicken meat and an incredibly 4% more iron than beef sirloin! Quail meat has vitamin A whereas chicken meat has none.Breeding period of black francolin extended from March up to late July with peak egg-laying between May to June. Twelve nests were monitored throughout the breeding season using binoculars from a distance and camera traps, wherever possible and without disturbing the species.kala teetar hunting.
