Loved this film. Always have liked Franchot Tone. Since I saw him in Mutiny On The Bounty and Dick Powell when I saw him in Murder My Sweet. Mom used to gush over in his earlier flms . Finally got to see him in 42st thought he looked boyishly cute in his undies. Knew he was excellent when I saw him in Shipmates For Ever and saw him in tears at the very end of the film. Thanks for presenting this film.
A fun film and Dick Powell and Mary Martin make a charming couple. It is hard to believe that Mary Martin, one of the greatest Broadway singers and stars, had only one song in the film.
Loved it! What a funny script and it was delivered beautifully. The whole cast was superb. Enjoyed it from beginning to the end. Thank you for sharing it.
My Mom, left us 90 years still young , last Summer, was not prone to exaggerating and told of being at the Met Opera on her wedding trip , 1950 and Tone was hitting on her and my Dad came back from the bar and about beat the crap outta him ! 🤣
Wow...$1,000 a week for a radio writer ? I don't think so. That is equal to about ....$17,000...per week today..!! That is $68,000 per month...$816,000 per year....Yea...RIGHT...!!!! Dang it...sure wish this fun film would have been in focus..!! And oh, if only we had writers like this today instead of the trash that is forced upon us..!! But not to worry...I haven't had regular T.V. for well over 15 years...and I love it...!!!
After watching many of Dick Powell's dramatic films, it was a pleasure to hear him sing and play a lighter character. What a versatile performer he was.
So many of these "screwball comedies" rely on a "misunderstanding" and one or two affected mannerisms. If the writer and director are not careful about pace and presenting plausible situations, the whole movie can become tiresome and silly. The viewer loses sympathy with the characters who seem forced and two-dimensional, and patience with the plot, which can be easily resolved if the leads simply speak coherently. This is one of those pictures. Why Dick Powell (who sleepwalks thru this movie) can't tell Mary Martin that he's a writer, or at least that he has a job, is as unbelievable as the stupid things he does to avoid telling her. The very talented supporting cast are reduced to a collection of dolts in order to make this forced plot seem possible. The producer on down must have assumed the audience were ones too.
Mary Martin is cute here, but this role was tailor made for Jean Arthur! @55:54~ Now I understand why Tom Neal put Franchot Tone in a coma over Barbara Peyton!😛
They say laughter is the best medicine.😂 I feel great after this wonderful movie😂❤😊Thank you.
Mary Martin reminds me so much of Jean Arthur in this film.
Me too! They were friends in real life... and both played Peter Pan on Broadway 😊
That kitchen scene is hilarious. 🤣
Wallace & Grommit could have received their inspiration from it.
I never knew Dick Powell could do broad comedy- a wonderfully versatile actor-
Dick Powell could do everything-plus marry June Allyson.
Started out as a frufru dancer, was reimaged as a tough guy.

Victor Moore was incredibly likable in his gifted performances.

I haven't laughed so hard in years. That kitchen scene should be better known like this whole movie. Thank you for uploading it. 🤣
I know. hahaha!!
Feels like Ralph Kramden, Ed Norton, and the chef of the future were inspired by that kitchen.
"Reality Show" is born
A lovely movie. Thanks for posting.
Now this was a "screwball" comedy made me laugh outloud TY 4sharing
Wonderful to see Clarence Kolb ( " Mr. Honeywell" on " My Little Margie")
Mary Martin looks/talks/acts just like Jean Arthur ~ I think that is on purpose ~ but she does an excellent job of it!
Yes, true. But, Jean Arthur would have been better in this role.
A delightful funny movie 😂❤
Wonderful!
"Fab, fab, fabulous 😊!!!...
Franchot Tone was really a player in real life
My Mom, left us 90 years still young , last Summer, was not prone to exaggerating and told of being at the Met Opera on her wedding trip , 1950 and Tone was hitting on her and my Dad came back from the bar and about beat the crap outta him ! 🤣
Film stars cash in on fame.
Lol He just was being himself. But you have to give him credit, he was funny.😂 Everyone contributed to make it a delightful comedy.👍

your math is wrong.. 52 weeks a year is 52000 per year. there are only 52 weeks in a year.
the wages should be calculated by what he made back then and they did pay well for good quality writers.
Ur correct! Poor focus. Blurry!
@marbleman52 He's converting to today's dollars. He says so up front.
@@kablouielouie Some people don't seem to have heard of inflation even though it has been in the news the last couple of years.
Good movie great cast.
He was.? Awesome!
fun movie. dick Powell was so underrated.

😮3:36-4:43 😅Great 😊
Screwball comedies do what all art should do: reconcile us to life.
