Loved this film. Always have liked Franchot Tone. Since I saw him in Mutiny On The Bounty and Dick Powell when I saw him in Murder My Sweet. Mom used to gush over in his earlier flms . Finally got to see him in 42st thought he looked boyishly cute in his undies. Knew he was excellent when I saw him in Shipmates For Ever and saw him in tears at the very end of the film. Thanks for presenting this film.

A fun film and Dick Powell and Mary Martin make a charming couple. It is hard to believe that Mary Martin, one of the greatest Broadway singers and stars, had only one song in the film.

Wow...$1,000 a week for a radio writer ? I don't think so. That is equal to about ....$17,000...per week today..!! That is $68,000 per month...$816,000 per year....Yea...RIGHT...!!!!
Dang it...sure wish this fun film would have been in focus..!!
And oh, if only we had writers like this today instead of the trash that is forced upon us..!! But not to worry...I haven't had regular T.V. for well over 15 years...and I love it...!!!

So many of these "screwball comedies" rely on a "misunderstanding" and one or two affected mannerisms. If the writer and director are not careful about pace and presenting plausible situations, the whole movie can become tiresome and silly. The viewer loses sympathy with the characters who seem forced and two-dimensional, and patience with the plot, which can be easily resolved if the leads simply speak coherently. This is one of those pictures. Why Dick Powell (who sleepwalks thru this movie) can't tell Mary Martin that he's a writer, or at least that he has a job, is as unbelievable as the stupid things he does to avoid telling her. The very talented supporting cast are reduced to a collection of dolts in order to make this forced plot seem possible. The producer on down must have assumed the audience were ones too.
