I'm interested in the part that connects to his torso.. The arm bit must insert into something that allows him to relax and be well balanced. Very cool illusion and it is harder than it looks to "hang out" all day amongst random strangers who aren't always polite.

He is definitely one of the best street performance artists I have seen. The combination of visual, creativity and stamina makes for the best performance. He is great with kids and makes for a great trip to Covent Garden. I once saw some kids nick the Roman Warriors performer's money once - bloody hell, he gave chase barefoot and got his money back!
What else do you know about these people? Who are they? Travelers, gypsies? What makes a man go out and do what they do. It boggles the mind.
Definitely check out the barehanded drummer Shakerleg. Now THAT guy put in effort and destroyed his hands for the art of it.

He's holding his hand in an upright position, thus gravity causes the glove to slide down onto his hand as his fingers wiggle around!
For those who don't understand, the jacket has a body brace in it. The arm brace connects to the body brace, so there's very little strength required in order to just sit there. (See the fiddling inside jacket to connect things)
Leaning forwards probably is the only thing that takes real effort.

His entire forearm that's on the shovel is fake, its a pipe. There's a swivel connected to the fake forearm that is attached to vest/harness that allows him to swing and rotate.
I feel bad for them. Lots of dedication on doing this, and like 1 out of 1,000 people just mess around with him, ruining their performance.

He's hooking the rod at the end of the fake arm onto a bracket that's inside of his coat when he reaches in, of course, he drops the glove just inside of the jacket to do this at about 4:00 the girl is hiding the fact that while he is doing this he is tip toeing to raise his self up to accomplish that, then he puts on the other glove. I believe part of the hinge that's in his jacket is showed at 1:20 laying inside of the wooden case lid. Not sure if his left arm is actually in the sleeve of the jacket or not but it may be to achieve the leverage he is accomplishing, the reason the camera man turns away is so that he won't reveal the fact that he did tip toe getting onto the hinge while the girl also hides it. If you notice when he rotates up and comes back down he has one foot straight and the other bent down showing me that he very well did tip toe in order to lift himself up to insert the metal rod into the hidden hinge, and on to the bracket hidden inside his coat sleeve which attaches to the hinge inside of the jacket. This is what I see, what do you think?

The guy got an special equipment inside the jacket wich we never saw. This equipement must got a rotatory mechanism wich allows him to change his body positions. The trick is that without the jacket you could see that the left arm support is connected with the entire body and the jacket is the "Smoke" to cover this.
His entire forearm that's on the shovel is fake, its a pipe. There's a swivel connected to the fake forearm that is attached to vest/harness that allows him to swing and rotate.
.....as seen in 4:09 That's the revelation and that is why the music is so sad.

I agree! The engineering is more impressive than "levitation" imo. Couple that with the endurance and patience to do this for HOURS, no impressiveness is lost in seeing how it's done, only gained.

This does not need lot of strength. The jacket has a body brace in it. The arm brace connects to the body brace and he is comfortably standing on the frame.

the magic happens right at 4:40 where he attaches the piece connected up his arm, to his body harness. You can see him pushing the two pieces together, but still hidden from the crowd. But damn, this is the best one of these types that I have seen and the dude still works his ass off to do this trick. And even though he already has a crowd, most will not understand what they are looking at as he sets up. Hats off to him.
Ok there's a body harness to which the rod up his arm is connected BUT how does he rotate? I don't think he rotates with his muscle power, does he? If it's not with muscle power, does he have a motor hidden under his coat. Rotating is the clever bit.
Where's the body harness shown ? That would be an essential part of the "explanation".

Prior to that connection his left arm swings but after that connection his left arm can not swing because he made the connection. My question is HOW DOES HE ROTATE HIS BODY AFTER THE CONNECTION?

Now for the rotating part: he must have some kind of light and hard material (probably some mix of aluminum and metal) knickers that are modified and in one part go up to his torso; somewhere around his abdomen he has a rotating mechanism connected to that modified "inner torso-knickers", so to say. So that way he can easily _sit_ with his inner armour on, while it appears he is levitating. ;) You're welcome, all. :)

He’s wearing a vest like support that attaches to the end of the metal piece coming off the shovel handle.. it supports his entire weight and he just uses his hand/arm to move him to the different positions like when he goes vertical to thank the coin droppers.. Its very cool and he’s a wonderful performance artist. This is much better than the guys in India who just hover in place with similar device..

@@charlieblack4579 he has what I guess is refereed to as an "armature' which you do see in the video. It is a small armature for sure which means he has muscles like superman to do this. Even if you know how this is done does not even scratch the surface of how physically fit you have to be to do this. Out of the box, I am guess for a new person to do this with a trainer 12 to 18 months to do this. 'Silver Man' if you see my comments then rest assured I have the highest respect for what you are doing sir because I have an idea of all the hard work it has taken for you to achieve the success you have. Richard Viade in the video as he walks up and the girl is working on the cloth, in the corner there is a steel piece that is silver and black that is the support that connects his harness with the pivot hinge, to the shovel and base watch at the end and you can see the back of the jacket flex, he put the pivot point real close to his center of gravity so it doesn't take much to lean foward.

But just like with magicians, or a good movie, I really don’t want to know how it is done. Not because I am not curious, or don’t have a small idea of how it is done, or don’t believe in knowledge.
It is because I like to watch the performers, the magicians or the good movie, and just be spellbound, fascinated and thrilled, in an everyday and a world where so much is explained and where there is very little room for magic and mysteries. And just enjoy it. 😊
