I rarely disagree w/Scott, but the elephant in the room is 1st base. This team's #1 need is a power right handed bat and they're not going to compete again with minus WAR out of that position. Especially if you already have two black holes (SS, C) in your lineup every day. I hate to say it, but after three years, Tork just doesn't look like he can fill that role. I'd be much more comfortable with Vierling at 3B everyday than another year of hoping Tork figures out how to hit anything other than missed location meatballs in the middle of the strike zone. And I think the bullpen's K rate is largely a function of how they were used. A lot of the kids were counted on for bulk innings. That said, a true closer sure would be nice. And yeah, EVERYBODY needs starting pitching depth. By the way...PLEASE no more stop-gap half meadures. We don't need the Canhas, Gios, CJ Crons, Robbie Grossmans if the world. They gotta rip the band aid off and land a legitimate bat at 1B.
Tigers needs are the exact same as last season. They need one or two starting pitchers, a right handed power hitter that plays first and or third base and a closer.
Dear Santa: I know it's early, but Halloween is over and you must have some pull to improve the Tigers. Please, please send the Tigers a power hitting, right handed bat at third base. We did the platoon thing on my little league team this year at third and it sucked. When I saw the Tigers do the same thing last season, I knew they would suck too. I want to see the Tigers in the playoffs again because it was cool and because I thought they were going to the World Series. With this letter I sent you copies of my baseball cards for my three choices. Any one of them will do to stop the suck. Thanks, Santa!
3rd base has never been a position where the Tigers have had a star player. (not in at least 60 years) Even in '68 and '84, Third base was never the star position?
Top priority in my mind is a quality front line starting pitcher. I think to b successful you need a 1-2 punch in starting pitchers. Think Pedro Martinez and Curt Schilling. Yamamoto and Flaherty for Dodgers.
sign flaherty and Fried. You will have two good pitchers in a pro pitcher stadium with experience in playoff. Sign bregman, it is the only good third base in the free agency or trade your prospects for a good third base. If Gleyber is available sign him, maybe get guerrero since he doesn't like Toronto and you will have a power right hander in the first base and have Tolkerson in the bench and see how he reacts this season. : 1- Torres 2- Green 3- Bregmann 4- Guerrero 5- Carpenter 6- Keith 7- Whatever the catcher 8- Baez (putting because you are pay him millions of dollars and beg him to be more patient on the plate) 9- Meadows Starter Pitcher: Skubal, Fried, Flaherty, Olsen, Mize/Manning/Montero
I’m keeping my eye on the Cardinals for a trade. I like Donovan as an infielder (except he hits lefty), and I like Helsley as a high leverage reliever.
Saurez just went from Free Agent target to trade target. His 1 year contract is what Scott Harris would prefer to sign IMHO. I think this makes him more likely to become a Tiger.
I went over Torkelson's first three years and cherry picked his best months and combined them, even doing this his numbers are not amazing. He seems to have to compromise a ton to get homers and that means pitchers can always get ahead in the count against Tork. I can still see him becoming a good to great player, but wish we would replace him at first.
The Tigers under Illich don't fork out a lot of dough. Bregman would be my bet for third base through free agency. Santander my choice as your right fielder, second option Teoscar Hernandez. Baez still has big contract money which may be a big problem in bringing in some free agents. I think he is owed 73 million You could bring back Flaherty as a possibility or Wacha. Mize hasn't been the same pitcher since his injury. Maeda was a bust. We're also weak at the catcher position as far as offense goes. Trade for a catcher.
Don't they have kids in Arizona tearing the cover off the ball? How about a little platoon at first with Madris. Better drafting would also help. Let face it, other than Skubal and Carpenter, the Tigers have no top tier regulars. Relief pitchers not included. That bunch worked well, and no Green is not an elite player. Yet!
Tigers won't get Bregman, Flaherty or Santander. They won't spend that much, because Ilitch. They might sign Wacha, who I really wanted them to get last year. All other signings will be decent, low cost options.
2 SP, a power arm for high leverage in bullpen, 2 bats

I hope the Tigers sign Alex Bregman and then swing a trade for somebody like Ryan Mountcastle to replace Tork.

3rd base, 2 starters, I LH, 1 RH, 1B, and catcher who can hit.

Let’s spend

Can Baez play third also?
I’m not feeling Bregman, I’m looking for someone like Jake Burger, he’s hit 60 home runs the past two years

Will they spend big $?
Probably not!!

Lol Riley Greene was an all star and was over a 5 WAR player. You're joking right? That is ELITE. Riley is one of the best LF in baseball

Wacha signed 3 years with Royals.
@@charlesmuenger8737 Right you are. I missed that.
They know what they need, whether they address it or not is up to them.
Maybe Verlander back, but nothing else they are a very cheap front office squad
