    My biggest weakness as a player is always trying to complicate parts. Your lessons always bring me back to earth, Eric.

    See No Evil and Marquee Moon are two of my favourite pieces for twin guitars. The starkness of the parts and how together they create a whole has inspired me for nearly 50 years.

    I thought rhythm guitar was boring when I wasn't really playing good rhythm guitar. When I started focusing on locking in with the rhythm section, that all changed. When you're all three truly together and sharing one groove, there's nothing like it. That's the good stuff of playing with real humans right there. You can't get that feeling from a quantized rhythm track. I sure can't, anyway.

    I love this. This is why you’re the only RUclipsr I would ever watch “lesson” videos from. First off, Television. Second, this video isn’t about how to play guitar as much as it is about arrangement, production and how to be a musician who can play with other musicians. So smart. So good. Thank you.

    I really liked the Cranberries example. I never got what appeal was about them but I think you turned me on to them 30 years late. My best friend had the Television album back in the mid 70s. The fact you've this music was what stood out and got me hooked you. As I'm sure I've said before, you are a unique treasure. Another thumbs up

    The strumming of chords is most definitely NOT THE BORING PART. Thank you for saying these things. That Tom Fogerty part is pure goodness, and also a reminder that a good song needs space to breathe- don't give it more than it needs!

    I try to get all of these kinds of ideas in when I’m coming up with a part for any instrument. And for me it’s always a kind of “am I a texture or should there be a spotlight on me” and “how much space should I be trying fit into or fill up” iI’s so cool so see such a different and such a refined system to think of where a part can fit into a song. Great stuff I’m sure you’ve made hundreds of songs better from people watching this video alone! Hopefully including mine :)

    Great video, as always. Really like your approach to the guitar and to music. I have also been following your TrueFire courses, which are excellent. One thing I was wondering: What would you approach be to acoustic / singer-songwriter arrangement? I am in the situation where I am trying to work up my songs for solo performance at open mic nights and I *don’t* want to be just hitting the ‘ubiquitous’ strum pattern every time. Just an idea if you would need one for a future video or course. I think you would definitely have an interesting approach to this.

      Hi Niall!
      I feel ya, man - even if you have just a few different strum patterns to switch between it'll make the set more dynamic!

    Your videos really, really help me think more in terms of texture and how playing by yourself is not the same as playing with a band - you have to contribute to the SONG and not the ego. Is the A maj9 tab in 2nd bar of cranberries right? Is it missing the open root A note?

    • @EricHaugenGuitar
      @EricHaugenGuitar  5 дней назад

      Yeah! Mike Hogan is playing an A in the bass, so by his bro playing the E-G#-B on top it creates an Ama9 - so cool!
