    With talks about why the side characters got so much screentime in this season, I figured, I would release a video, exploring the parallels I see between Polin and the Mondrichs this season.

    For me, the Mondrichs serve the purpose of giving the correct opinions of normal people. They praise Colin for his efforts in helping Penelope to find a husband. They name him as being gallant and a good friend. They do not share the sick, twisted view of society.

      Yes!!! My hope is that they stay that way. Cuz as they say, power does corrupt, but I need the Mondrichs incorruptible for a bit longer.

      A lot of people don’t like their screen time they have. This is selfish of them to think that way. In season one they never have a problem with them. Now they become rich they don’t deserve screen time? How you for real? Haters are even jealous of people in TV. It’s crazy to me

    I’m so glad you spoke about Anthony and Kate having to shoulder the burden of keeping their respective families together after the deaths of their fathers. I was LITERALLY saying this the other day about how both their mothers kind of checked out, like if their children weren’t grieving too.

      True. I give more gave to Violet than Mary, though. She had a rough birth not long after on top of it all, but she came back. It seems Mary stayed gone 🫤

    • @ChroniclesofNoria
      @ChroniclesofNoria  Месяц назад +11

      Right???? Like when I was watching the season, that shot of Anthony looking absolutely devastated and Violet screaming at him to go to his siblings whilst she held her husband and HIS father and was grieving him, and I just kept screaming at the TV "What about Anthony though? What about Anthony though??????"

    • @ChroniclesofNoria
      @ChroniclesofNoria  Месяц назад +12

      Yeah. In Mary's defence though, she was also dealing with that grief, in another country, without any support or friends or even acquaintances. Like it doesn't excuse why Kate had to step in and basically parent her sister and her mother, but in her defence, she too was dealing with more than just the grief of losing her husband.

    • @reeserichards9283
      @reeserichards9283 Месяц назад +15

      @@ChroniclesofNoria Agreed. It’s a tough situation to navigate and then criticize them on since they lost their husbands. Maybe it’s because I’m thinking of them in comparison to Portia Featherington. Because she would have pulled it together for her girls. BUT… did she love her husband like Violet and Mary did? Probably not. lol. So it’s easy for Portia to carry on relatively unburdened by grief as opposed to the other two I guess.

    • @ChroniclesofNoria
      @ChroniclesofNoria  Месяц назад +18

      @@reeserichards9283 I think even with her grief, even if she had lost her husband, Portia WOULD have pulled herself together for her daughters because she recognizes on a primal level that she’s the only one they have and that the world would be too cruel to them is she doesn’t put aside her grief at the moment and help her girls instead

  • @aniko7125

    For me, I think the Mondrich family’s journey is supposed to be about impostor syndrome and finding your purpose/place in society. Which is something that Polin is going through. Also the Mondrich family’s situation is similar to the Featherington’s. Lady Kent died without a direct heir, as did Lord Featherington. The Mondrich’s son gains the title, Portia Featherington is trying to get their daughters to secure and retain their title through their future (male) child…

    • @ChroniclesofNoria
      @ChroniclesofNoria  Месяц назад +4

      Yes and yes!!! They really are a central part to the collective story being told. What are your thoughts though on how their story arc was handled this season? Did you think it was resolved, now that the second half has been released?

    • @aniko7125
      @aniko7125 Месяц назад +5

      @@ChroniclesofNoria Now that I’ve seen the second part of the season there is a lot to explore. In regard to the Mondrichs, the show has now placed them in a “to be continued “ state.
      By the end of this season we have Polin in a similar position as the Mondrichs. Both of the couples are untitled raising titled children. ( the only difference is that the Mondrichs come from a working class background while Polin were born into the class of the landed gentry.
      Also, I think next season we will see the Mondrichs buy the bar back. They had sold it bc the queen wouldn’t look too kindly on one of her gentry working, but look at what happened at the end of the season: the queen herself gave Penelope permission to continue her work as Whistledown and did so publicly . Colin has also become a writer which is also work. I think this will create a way for the Mondrichs to continue working and make their own way so to speak.

    • @Cheezwizzie
      @Cheezwizzie Месяц назад +2

      I understand the Mondrich storyline but I didn't like the way it was handled. I understand the imposter syndrome but the fact that they worked their asses off and made the sacrifice and Mr. Mondrich even took a hit to his pride, all for the hope of starting a prosperous business. And to throw it all away for proprietary sake. The show has been making certain characters push against the standards of society since Season 1. I don't see why they didn't find a workaround. He could have hired a manager, he could have given the business to a trusted person who needed a leg up in the world. Instead he discarded it.

    Not only would Penelope’s work status be looked down upon by the ton, she, like Mondrich, works in a standpoint that observes the ton and can gather information/observations. If both continue to work in their respective careers in light of their changed relationships/positions to the members of the ton, they upset the “balance” that makes their positions possible in the first place. Mondrich cannot drink with the ton AND sell them drinks at the same time. Penelope cannot take an elevated position in society AND continue to profit from observational gossip once her secret is known. Who, after all, would EVER trust her to be in their company?
    I don’t know if this makes a whole lot of sense! 😂 Can’t wait to see what develops in the show!

      This is exactly what I think the show is trying to tell us, but it still feels out of place to me, and I still don’t understand why. It sounds like the writers made this up just to create conflict. I thought everyone liked Mondrich (Ignoring the disparaging comment we heard in the last episode of season three part one) why would they want him to quit doing what he loves?

      They do like Will Mondrich. As the man who used to sell their drinks. And now as a member of the ton, and father to a Lord. What they don't like is for him to be both the one selling the drinks and also hunting with them and being a part of their elite world. It's a class society and what Will is doing goes against what they want as a class.

    Very interesting and insightful comparison I hadn't considered. I do see the parallel now. Now that we have seen the rest of S3 and know he had to give up his bar yet Pen didn't have to give up her writing, I wonder if they'll later find a way for him to own a bar again - esp if he's not the bartender, just the owner. I would like to see that progression in the views of the ton. All that said, I do think they spent too much time with the Mondrich's that took away from essential work on Polin's story and all the subplots happening made Polin's story, which should have been the primary focus of the season, shoehorned in here and there and rushed to the point of disordered chaos and lack of emotional depth it deserved. Interestingly all while Benedict appeared to be in bed for weeks while it was all happening. lol Time stood still for him at least. I adore the Mondriches, but I do think their story could have been told with less time to allow the needed time for Polin's story.

    I think on your point about the lack of yearning, I think in this half we also don't really get enough of Colins coming to terms with the fact that his obliviousness comes from the fact that, like, he doesn't really consider her desires in the same way she does him. Before he falls for her its not just that he principally sees her as a friend, but as a friend who is loyal to him, not perhaps as one that he has poured as much into her, you know? Considering they begin with that dynamic, us not seeing him learn, not only to desire her romantically, but as a result, to really care about what she cares about it a real missed opportunity.Moreover, the fact that he hasn't noticed that she is Lady Whistledown is probably down to the same thing. I think it might have been more interesting to have him realise that she is Lady Whistldown closer to the time that he realises he is in love with her. Instead of the Lord Debling plot where he realises and confesses his love through selfishness, perhaps having to let go of his own desire to bring Whistledown... down in order to confess might have been more satisfying. Anyway. We'll see what the next half holds

    • @ChroniclesofNoria
      @ChroniclesofNoria  14 дней назад

      Excellently put and well said. Yesssss!!! Like you I agree that if they'd made him realise that she is Lady Whistledown closer to when he realizes he is in love with her, and that helps him see that there's so much more hidden depth to his friend Pen than he's ever realized, which is what then makes him start watching and observing her more, and realizing just how much he loves her, it would definitely have felt more organic than what we got. Urgh!!

    I find your point to be interesting, but when I saw your video title, that's not what I thought it would be about. I thought it would be about how the Mondrichs are at risk of tokenism within Bridgerton and how their storyline was so central to this season to make up for the whiteness of this season's leads. I remember when season one dropped, there immediately being concern about how Bridgerton introduced Colin's and Eloise's love interests, and how they were white. Due to this, people were concerned with the diversity of casting Colin and Eloise's seasons. Due to this, we knew that at least 25% of the leading stories would white (this was pre-Queen Charlotte).
    The Mondrichs are the only couple, excluding Lady Danbury's marriage, that is not-white in any capacity. Due to this, I think that Bridgerton showrunners and writers may push and pull the Mondrichs story line, based on the diversity the leads. I am also afraid that showrunners may try to cut back on diversity if they hear complaints about the Mondrichs screentime. I think the showrunners may view this as complaint about having a non-white couple instead of a complaint on writing decisions (we deserved more Polin screen time).
    I hope I am wrong. But this is where my mind went.

    • @ChroniclesofNoria
      @ChroniclesofNoria  Месяц назад +1

      That is a very valid concern. And unfortunately, seeing how things played out for the Mondrichs at the end of the season, I fear you might be right. ^sigh^. A part of me still hopes though that they do right by them with the next season. Cuz heavens knows we need them to!

      I have to be honest, I get the parallel... they are a lovely couple, and it sounds like an interesting idea to explore the dynamic of a new rich family...but after Daphne's husband left the show...I'm just not that invested anymore into these two. They are just fine in my eyes, but I would rather see other characters instead.

    For me, I more blame elements like Lord Debling and Lady Danbury's brother that distract from the story and it's themes rather than inhance it. It makes the season feel messier than it actually needs to be.
    The Mondrichs are important due to the fresh POV they bring to the Ton due to their humble backgrounds, the themes of them trying to balance both being themselves and/or fitting in (complementing Pen's arc of wanting love but fearing the sacrifices of indepencene and influence), as well as Will Mondrich being good friends of the Bridgertons.
    Frankly, I think Lord Debling should have been axed and replaced with Colin instead. Have Pen continue to get Rizz Lessons TM from Colin, have that be the slow incitment of interest. Cressida tries and fails to pursue Colin (the most eligible bachlor of the season), complicating the Cressida vs Eloise vs Penelope dynamic and the storyline of Eloise feeling completely trapped by the complicated social web she's found herself in.
    Have Lady Danbury and Penelope bond like in the books. That way, this entire season proves Cowper's toxic view of sisterhood and changes in Lady Whistledown - because Pen would be receiving help and guidance from many women around her this entire season. Finally, hyping her up! Then, have Lady Danbury's brother show up in the later half of the season, setting up for Season 4.
    Notice how everything feeds into one another but nothing has DRASTICALLY changed with the half-baked suggestions I've made?

    Some of the fans are delusional. Jess Brownell, the new showrunner didn’t sideline Colin and Polin’s storylines because of the Mondrich family. She didn’t know how to develop the main couple and male protagonist’s storylines so she added subplots and side characters to fill the space.
    I enjoy the Mondriches. They’re normal, relatable, and a healthy Black couple. They bring new energy to the ton and Alice is becoming a style icon. I’m happy they got more screen time and hope to see them in Season 4.

      Yup. I really enjoy them every time they came on screen. They brought such a refreshing air: and blaming them for Jess Brownell’s penchant for drama and inability to properly flesh out a romance and Colin’s story arc is unfair. I also personally think that she might not really be a big Polin fan and wanted to get onto the other romances. But that’s just my own opinion 🤷🏾‍♀️

      @@ChroniclesofNoria Agreed! Not enough effort was put into the main couple which is crazy because the cast went on a global press tour!
      I felt Cressida and Tilly Arnold got too much screen time. But I don’t blame them for the main couple being sidelined.

    I feel this is somewhat over the top. I have never read the books and love the tv show. I will probably never read the books, because I really enjoyed the tv show. I love to read and am doing some writing, but some things are just fine as they are.

      I am quite confused. I don't see how the video was in any way over the top. I talked about the themes as it applied to the show. I didn't make any mention or recommendations for people to read the books. I find it perfectly alright that you prefer the show and have no interests in ever reading the book. That is fine. I enjoyed the Magicians TV show. It is in fact one of my favourite shows ever. But I hate the books. Really detest it. I've only ever read book 1. I have the other two books unread on my shelf for years. Some things are fine as they are. There is no where in my video where I said otherwise.
      But you are entitled to your opinions and that is fine. All the best with your writing, and thanks for commenting.

    I don't like the idea that Colin should be made to suffer for not loving penelope from the start. You are not owed someone's love.

      Oh I agree. I'm sorry if I made it sound that way. It wasn't my intention. My problem was more with because they're trying to show us now that Colin is in love with Pen, I needed them to put in double the work to make me really believe it, as we didn't get enough time for it to really build. I was hoping that I would get that with 3B. But alas...
