A couple fun facts and clarifications that were said during the chapters this episode covered. Laruoe didn't create a contract with the admin while asleep, he is from a branch of a great family (the nobility of the tower). The family already has contracts with the admins on each floor which extends for all family members, which is why Laruoe was able to use shinsu during the crown game. Khun Aguero also introduces himself as a part of another great family, the Khun family, when he meets Hatsu and Shibisu. Baam introduces himself by his full name "25th Bam," since he was born on the 25th night, (Bam means night in Korean) You can see his full name in the anime if you pause when they are showing the friends list. There is only one admin per floor, when someone makes a contract they all meet the same admin of said floor. For clarification of hierarchy, Administrator (giant grey eel) > Floor Ruler (Evankhell, mentioned last episode) > Test Director (Yu Hansung, coffee guy) > Test admins (Lero ro, Quant, etc.). Of the 5 basic positions wave controller is the rarest. There are other rarer positions like navigator, like Evan Edroch, the silver hair dwarf who is with princess Yuri. This rollercoaster is not gonna let up until the end of the season. This is going to be one of those shows where once the season is out totally, it will be hard to not binge it for those who start it.
imo, most are doing live reaction and the anime needs to be watched several times for them to catch all the details. so yeah most will kind of miss some details here and there, unless they watch with pauses and go back to what's not clear to them.

The thing with the shackles part is, in each floor, you need to form a contract with the floor's administrator (that big monster thingy) in order to use shinsu or increase the amount you can use. However, irregulars are known to be able to break the tower's rules, Bam doesn't need a contract in order to use shinsu, he can use it freely so forming a contract would only limit the amount he can use. That's what Lero Ro talked about with the test administrator last episode, in which he mentions that the only person he knew who could use shinsu without forming a contract with the floor administrator is the irregular Urek Mazino.

The author post info blogs every chapter, from there we know that Anaak is actually older than Endorsi, since this in never brought up in the webcomic this isn't a spoiler. You'll know how things work in the tower little by little, but remember what Lero Ro said, shinsu can even make you immortal.
Time actually works differently in their universe but never really explained how, most characters are a 100 plus years old some 1000 in fact i think bam and rachel are the only ones below a hundred
I hate that there was no Bam and Laure interaction about what "talent" means. It perfectly shows how talanted Bam is and how Laure was able to see it,and right away there he said to Ho how he lacks talent. It's not every important part but it helps to show how it's obvious that Bam is so to say a real deal.
But they already did that by replacing the weak shinsu burst by a huge one last episode. I'm disappointed it's not there because it was great dialogue mostly.

I wouldn't blame crunchyroll's translation for the, "became shinsu" bit. Even visually they made it pretty different than the webtoon. In the webtoon, Lero Ro even points out the shinsu "burst" was weak, but acted in a way it should not have. I'm chalking it up to the necessary alterations and compression Crunchyroll needs to do to fit all of the Webtoon's 78 season 1 chapters into the 13 they're doing for the anime. For me, having read this series from the start, this episode was REALLY compressed and they altered a number of bits. But I'm happy they stopped where they did. As for the conversation between Rachel and Kuhn... you anime watchers basically get the idea. SHE wants to go up, but she knows Bam does not. The W-toon expands that a little more. She thinks about staying with Bam, but whenever she closes her eyes to sleep, all she can think about are the stars. The stars are the obsession her heart MUST follow. The toon goes through a couple chapters of the friends gathering thing, and Rachel sees Bam interacting with the group. THAT's when she has the dream of Bam with the friends, and it wakes her with a jolt.
XPGhia i heard someone said that "he became shinsu" is the literal translation of what lero ro said in japanase, so whether its a mistake of the animator staff or its intended to be that way,

For me, that was a small moment where I don't think that the Crunchy writers have a solid grip on how Siu, the original author, wanted to portray Bam at this early stage. The other spot was the following moment where Bam moves to strike the mask girl.

I'd like to point out when people claim something is a "mistranslation" (most of the time) they don't actually mean the subs are wrong. They're saying the animation studio made a mistake lol. The subs for what Lero Ro said last episode last week were correct though. He said, " ヨルさんが神の水そのものだった" Which translates to "Bam was that Shinsu." The anime is just changing some details, that's all.

An important note that I caught when watching this ep is that when Khun was reading about Anaak (mother) had been selected as a princess of jahad and received the Green April after becoming a Ranker, someone who has already climbed their way to the top of the tower. Which is interesting when you'd consider that the test admins allowed her to impersonate a deceased Ranker.
GoH stomps all over ToG in the action department. In terms of story elements (wordlbulding, characterisation etc) ,it isn't as good. Not saying Goh have crap story, it is just not strong as ToG in those areas.
@Gabriella Hernandez Yes , that why I say ToG beat GoH in that department. What GoH have in spades over ToG is the action/fight sequence. Even as up to the latest ToG chapter they still don't have fights as epic as GoH.
Also if you remember the first episode in the beginning where Headon is talking about what reasons people climb the tower for, Anaak is shown when he says "revenge."
Interesting that it seems like the giant turtle Administrator didn't seem to dislike that Bam was an Irregular. Like you said, he called it a shackle because he's an Irregular, which means the Administrator knows he's an Irregular. But the only people who have an issue with Irregulars so far seem to be the human looking people, rather than the ancient Floor Administrator.
ToG continues to impress every week. Every episode hooks me more and more and this ep built upon that. Some great animation during the selection placement as usual. Anaak and Androssi’s fight was dope. Her origin story explains why she’s got a chip on her shoulder. Can’t wait to see how that resolves itself next week.

But in the anime they cut that out, it was like 2 lines, it would have been a good foreshadowing to have added that, but o well, whatever.

But I had questions about shinsu because I seen anaak use shinsu and she a fisherman and they told me everybody can use shinsu! basically shinsu is life in the tower oxygen etc so my question is or theory I should say is wave controllers are op because they can control shinsu more then the others? Here are the positions every one of the characters we know currently is in. Fisherman: Anaak, Endorsi Spear Bearer: Rak, the big guy from Rachel's team (his name hasn't been revealed yet so I won't say it) Light Bearer: Khun, Rachel Scout: Shibisu, Hatz, Serena (the woman Shibisu always calls hag) Wave Controller: Bam, Hoh, Laure, the red hair girl (name hasn't been revealed yet) Sheera did guess that Rak would be a fisherman and Khun a spear bearer but while Rak has mainly fought in close combat he literally uses a spear and plus he knocked out pretty much everyone in the 3rd round of the crown game with just the force of him throwing his spear in the anime. Khun hasn't been shown to fight from a distance that much at all the most we see was in episode 5 where he threw a flurry of knives at the dual swordsman however he was mainly fighting in close combat with all of his fights so far. Khun has been shown to be more of a strategist, observing and gathering information. Like with the Shinsu wall test rather than pass through right away he went for staying back and observing, the red doors test where he organized the information available to try to find a solution. Khun has shown to be a good fit for a light bearer, in which the role of a light bearer is to observe the battlefield and get information.
Okay, I'm super late but when Princess Yuri gave Bam the Pocket in ep1 she said it was "high quality" but in the Webtoon she said that it was a grade A Pocket. And when the Wave Controllers where making contracts with beings through their Pockets their Teacher said that they shouldn't be able to make a contract with a powerful being because rookie Regulars should have pretty trashy Pockets. But Bam has a grade A, and in the Webtoon some Rankers where wondering what treasure a member of one of the 10 great familys would have and one of the Rankers mentioned that the family would have some grade A Pockets.

The reason why the administrator tells Bam the contract is a shackle for him is because Bam is able to control an unlimited amount of shinsu without a contract since he's an irregular but because he's made a contract it puts a limit on how much he can control therefore for irregulars like Bam it's a shackle and not something they benefit from

Their abilities usually outclass those climbing the Tower. 2: Floor Gaurdians (aka Administrators) rule over the Shinsoo of their respective floors and can wield it as they please, and can even grant immortality. 3: (PART SPOILER): Administrators were previously thought of as the "True Gods" of the Tower, the immortals, but after an incident on a _certain floor_ in which an administrator was killed by a _certain person and for certain reasons_ this assumption was discarded. 4: I love my boy Bam but he's a F****** *SiMp* 5: Possessing two of the 13 Month Series (those crazy weapons) is a feat very few princesses of Jahard have managed to accomplish (although Anak is basically a demi-princess) 6:The princesses of Jahard aren't allowed to love simply because there is the risk of pregnancy, in other words Jahard's power being passed on without the man himself's permission, (that arrogant prick). 7: Rak is and always will be the cutest character. No homo. 8: Most Rankers are old af. Ha Yuri Zahard or Yuri Jahad is at least 500 years old. Currently at 618 in the Manhwa I believe. Or at least something around that. Not my comment .......from reddit about positions in ToG: This is a small thing but I really like how the position names support the water based nature of the tower. They're everything you'd want on a ship's crew exploring an unknown sea. A scout to search ahead for foes. A fisherman to struggle with those foes and draw them in. A spearbearer to strike the decisive blow when they get in range. A light bearer in a lighthouse to illuminate the way. And a wave controller to manipulate the sea itself.
Something that I think is important, at the end you said that maybe hoh is being friendly to Bam because he needs to make friends for the list task, but that task is only for the Scout position not the Wave controllers.
Based off this episode. My guess is that Rachel wants to a princess. The princess’s are not allowed to love, so that why she said she has to be away from Bam because she love him but she willing to sacrifice that to climb the tower.
regarding the "flexing" part. Forming contract is really exhausting. if you remember the shinsu wall test, some were saying that they can't fail here, they were "chosen". That's cause only selected few are allowed to climb the tower, so those who took test can't show that it is hard on them. Bam is anomaly there, cause he doesn't know a thing and so "pure", he doesn't hide his emotions

Remember in the first episode when Yuri gave Bam a pocket. That pocket was an A rank pocket but all the other regulars at the floor of tests are using E rank pockets. I wonder if that affected the contract Bam had to make with the floor administrator. He seemed really exhausted too which is unlikely for a person who wasn't pushed back by a shinsu wave.
In the Webtoon, when Bam is first approached by the guy with the red horn, in response to him calling Bam weak, Laure tells Bam to imagine a ball of light in his palm, and Bam manifests shinsoo. Laure then tells the horned dude "That is talent." They cut this out though.
The reason why the administrator said the contract was a shackle for bam was because everyone in the tower need to for it to use more than a small amount of shins. But bam is the only exception, being that he doesnt need the administrators approval to use shinsu.
Im not sure if theyll explain later on, in webtoon it was stated when explaining positions, if I remember correctly, there is a limited number of places for each positions. Regulars who get best results in their position will qualify to pass this training and continue to climb the tower. So in Wave Controler position, Lauroe is already very strong as has high chances to pass, which means if others get better evaluation than Hoh, he wont pass. I skipped how many open places there are per position just in case they explain it in later episodes. Its not a spoiler, or a big deal or some plot twist, but it does give better insight in their dynamics and actual stakes of the test, so its not just them training.
It seems to me like Rachel must have some real reason to climb the Tower, other than the whole "stars" thing. Something apparently so important that she's willing to leave Bam behind to climb it. Not to mention she's worried that if Bam comes along with her, she might get him killed. There's something weird with her, definitely.
and also people wandering why you need to form a contract with floor administrator.... its more like they are at the pinnacle of every floor... so every major out of the box event happening in any floor u need to ask permissions from their respective floor administrator..... (except for 1 floor and 1 person)... also floor administrator are big badass creatures shown here not to be mixed/confused with test administrator..... both are different...
Also, making the contract with the administrator is a shackle specifically for Bam but no one else. It's probably because he's an irregular, seeing as Lero Ro asked to Han Sung (the coffee test director dude) if he knew of anyone who could use shinsu without forming a contract first and Han Sung replied that an irregular could. That means that since Bam can use shinsu without the contract, forming it would be more a limitation than a blessing.
The family not able to love also explains Khun backstory....I think Maria used Khun to love her, taking his sister out of the running to be a Princess of Jahad
The reason why the Administrator said that it wasn’t a contract but shackles aren’t because they are trying to keep Bam in check. Notice how he says “For you” when speaking to Bam. He specifies Bam because Bam is an Irregular, he doesn’t follow the rules of the tower. Typically if you don’t form a contract with an Administrator you can’t use Shinsu without the use of a device like the Shinsu wand the girl doing her makeup used in the crown game. Since Irregulars don’t follow the rules of the tower they can use Shinsu freely without needing to be bound by a contract. Also, a contract while yes lets you use Shinsu it also limits how much you can use while Irregulars can use a much as they want however the contract puts limits, therefore, being shackles to Irregulars cause they can't use as much as they want.

No, what Baam saw was a Floor Administrator/Guardian, they rule that floor and are able to manipulate unfathomable amounts of shinsu where they reside and generally are considered to be immortal. There is a different guardian all 135+? floors of the tower (each floor of the tower is a continent large and usually has its own population/culture) Remember Headon? He rules floor one.

Although it may seem like being a Zahard (Jahad) Princess sucks because they can't love and all the other rules they have to adhere to, the reason they want to be a Princess is because they gain power that puts them in a different league compared to other Regulars. You see that even Anak here who only gained the power through her Mother and thus it is diluted, is still stronger than every other Regular here except Endorsi. They're described as the "ultimate species" because of it. And the social status that comes along with being a Princess as well
What Tower of God positions would Sheera, Roshi, and Lupa be? lol. Sheera's definitely the Lightbearer, crunching the heavy analysis. Roshi plays a stablizing role, so I would say Fisherman. Lupa is all out on the shenanigans and is a bit like Rak, so Spearman. This is a well-balanced team.

I wouldn't blame crunchyroll's translation for the, "became shinsu" bit. Even visually they made it pretty different than the webtoon. In the webtoon, Lero Ro even points out the shinsu "burst" was weak, but acted in a way it should not have. I'm chalking it up to the necessary alterations and compression Crunchyroll needs to do to fit all of the Webtoon's 78 season 1 chapters into the 13 they're doing for the anime. For me, having read this series from the start, this episode was REALLY compressed and they altered a number of bits. But I'm happy they stopped where they did.
As for the conversation between Rachel and Kuhn... you anime watchers basically get the idea. SHE wants to go up, but she knows Bam does not. The W-toon expands that a little more. She thinks about staying with Bam, but whenever she closes her eyes to sleep, all she can think about are the stars. The stars are the obsession her heart MUST follow. The toon goes through a couple chapters of the friends gathering thing, and Rachel sees Bam interacting with the group. THAT's when she has the dream of Bam with the friends, and it wakes her with a jolt.
XPGhia i heard someone said that "he became shinsu" is the literal translation of what lero ro said in japanase, so whether its a mistake of the animator staff or its intended to be that way,

For me, that was a small moment where I don't think that the Crunchy writers have a solid grip on how Siu, the original author, wanted to portray Bam at this early stage. The other spot was the following moment where Bam moves to strike the mask girl.

but position doesn't really matter its just their specialist alot of them play like another role, for example there is alot Scout play like Fisherman, Wave Controller play like Fisherman.
You should tell them the weapons they use it is easier to tell them apart that way later on.

I'd like to point out when people claim something is a "mistranslation" (most of the time) they don't actually mean the subs are wrong. They're saying the animation studio made a mistake lol. The subs for what Lero Ro said last episode last week were correct though. He said, " ヨルさんが神の水そのものだった" Which translates to "Bam was that Shinsu." The anime is just changing some details, that's all.

An important note that I caught when watching this ep is that when Khun was reading about Anaak (mother) had been selected as a princess of jahad and received the Green April after becoming a Ranker, someone who has already climbed their way to the top of the tower. Which is interesting when you'd consider that the test admins allowed her to impersonate a deceased Ranker.
This show has me hype. Can't wait for god of highschool to drop as well.
GoH stomps all over ToG in the action department. In terms of story elements (wordlbulding, characterisation etc) ,it isn't as good. Not saying Goh have crap story, it is just not strong as ToG in those areas.

Interesting that it seems like the giant turtle Administrator didn't seem to dislike that Bam was an Irregular. Like you said, he called it a shackle because he's an Irregular, which means the Administrator knows he's an Irregular. But the only people who have an issue with Irregulars so far seem to be the human looking people, rather than the ancient Floor Administrator.

ToG continues to impress every week. Every episode hooks me more and more and this ep built upon that. Some great animation during the selection placement as usual. Anaak and Androssi’s fight was dope. Her origin story explains why she’s got a chip on her shoulder. Can’t wait to see how that resolves itself next week.

But in the anime they cut that out, it was like 2 lines, it would have been a good foreshadowing to have added that, but o well, whatever.

Here are the positions every one of the characters we know currently is in.
Fisherman: Anaak, Endorsi
Spear Bearer: Rak, the big guy from Rachel's team (his name hasn't been revealed yet so I won't say it)
Light Bearer: Khun, Rachel
Scout: Shibisu, Hatz, Serena (the woman Shibisu always calls hag)
Wave Controller: Bam, Hoh, Laure, the red hair girl (name hasn't been revealed yet)
Sheera did guess that Rak would be a fisherman and Khun a spear bearer but while Rak has mainly fought in close combat he literally uses a spear and plus he knocked out pretty much everyone in the 3rd round of the crown game with just the force of him throwing his spear in the anime. Khun hasn't been shown to fight from a distance that much at all the most we see was in episode 5 where he threw a flurry of knives at the dual swordsman however he was mainly fighting in close combat with all of his fights so far. Khun has been shown to be more of a strategist, observing and gathering information. Like with the Shinsu wall test rather than pass through right away he went for staying back and observing, the red doors test where he organized the information available to try to find a solution. Khun has shown to be a good fit for a light bearer, in which the role of a light bearer is to observe the battlefield and get information.

Okay, I'm super late but when Princess Yuri gave Bam the Pocket in ep1 she said it was "high quality" but in the Webtoon she said that it was a grade A Pocket. And when the Wave Controllers where making contracts with beings through their Pockets their Teacher said that they shouldn't be able to make a contract with a powerful being because rookie Regulars should have pretty trashy Pockets. But Bam has a grade A, and in the Webtoon some Rankers where wondering what treasure a member of one of the 10 great familys would have and one of the Rankers mentioned that the family would have some grade A Pockets.

The reason why the administrator tells Bam the contract is a shackle for him is because Bam is able to control an unlimited amount of shinsu without a contract since he's an irregular but because he's made a contract it puts a limit on how much he can control therefore for irregulars like Bam it's a shackle and not something they benefit from

Just some quick facts:
1: (Already stated) Rankers are those who have reached the current "top" floor of the Tower. Their abilities usually outclass those climbing the Tower.
2: Floor Gaurdians (aka Administrators) rule over the Shinsoo of their respective floors and can wield it as they please, and can even grant immortality.
3: (PART SPOILER): Administrators were previously thought of as the "True Gods" of the Tower, the immortals, but after an incident on a _certain floor_ in which an administrator was killed by a _certain person and for certain reasons_ this assumption was discarded.
4: I love my boy Bam but he's a F****** *SiMp*
5: Possessing two of the 13 Month Series (those crazy weapons) is a feat very few princesses of Jahard have managed to accomplish (although Anak is basically a demi-princess)
6:The princesses of Jahard aren't allowed to love simply because there is the risk of pregnancy, in other words Jahard's power being passed on without the man himself's permission, (that arrogant prick).
7: Rak is and always will be the cutest character. No homo.
8: Most Rankers are old af. Ha Yuri Zahard or Yuri Jahad is at least 500 years old. Currently at 618 in the Manhwa I believe. Or at least something around that.

This is a small thing but I really like how the position names support the water based nature of the tower. They're everything you'd want on a ship's crew exploring an unknown sea. A scout to search ahead for foes. A fisherman to struggle with those foes and draw them in. A spearbearer to strike the decisive blow when they get in range. A light bearer in a lighthouse to illuminate the way. And a wave controller to manipulate the sea itself.
Something that I think is important, at the end you said that maybe hoh is being friendly to Bam because he needs to make friends for the list task, but that task is only for the Scout position not the Wave controllers.
Based off this episode. My guess is that Rachel wants to a princess. The princess’s are not allowed to love, so that why she said she has to be away from Bam because she love him but she willing to sacrifice that to climb the tower.

regarding the "flexing" part. Forming contract is really exhausting. if you remember the shinsu wall test, some were saying that they can't fail here, they were "chosen". That's cause only selected few are allowed to climb the tower, so those who took test can't show that it is hard on them. Bam is anomaly there, cause he doesn't know a thing and so "pure", he doesn't hide his emotions
There almost certainly weren't 203 regulars that passed. 197 people outside of Khun's bag passed, and 3 inside did.

Cause it gets good from season 2 onwards, season 1 is just entertaining and an introduction to the characters and such

Remember in the first episode when Yuri gave Bam a pocket. That pocket was an A rank pocket but all the other regulars at the floor of tests are using E rank pockets. I wonder if that affected the contract Bam had to make with the floor administrator. He seemed really exhausted too which is unlikely for a person who wasn't pushed back by a shinsu wave.

In the Webtoon, when Bam is first approached by the guy with the red horn, in response to him calling Bam weak, Laure tells Bam to imagine a ball of light in his palm, and Bam manifests shinsoo. Laure then tells the horned dude "That is talent." They cut this out though.
The reason why the administrator said the contract was a shackle for bam was because everyone in the tower need to for it to use more than a small amount of shins. But bam is the only exception, being that he doesnt need the administrators approval to use shinsu.
Im not sure if theyll explain later on, in webtoon it was stated when explaining positions, if I remember correctly, there is a limited number of places for each positions. Regulars who get best results in their position will qualify to pass this training and continue to climb the tower. So in Wave Controler position, Lauroe is already very strong as has high chances to pass, which means if others get better evaluation than Hoh, he wont pass. I skipped how many open places there are per position just in case they explain it in later episodes. Its not a spoiler, or a big deal or some plot twist, but it does give better insight in their dynamics and actual stakes of the test, so its not just them training.
It seems to me like Rachel must have some real reason to climb the Tower, other than the whole "stars" thing. Something apparently so important that she's willing to leave Bam behind to climb it. Not to mention she's worried that if Bam comes along with her, she might get him killed. There's something weird with her, definitely.
and also people wandering why you need to form a contract with floor administrator.... its more like they are at the pinnacle of every floor... so every major out of the box event happening in any floor u need to ask permissions from their respective floor administrator..... (except for 1 floor and 1 person)... also floor administrator are big badass creatures shown here not to be mixed/confused with test administrator..... both are different...

Also, making the contract with the administrator is a shackle specifically for Bam but no one else. It's probably because he's an irregular, seeing as Lero Ro asked to Han Sung (the coffee test director dude) if he knew of anyone who could use shinsu without forming a contract first and Han Sung replied that an irregular could. That means that since Bam can use shinsu without the contract, forming it would be more a limitation than a blessing.
The family not able to love also explains Khun backstory....I think Maria used Khun to love her, taking his sister out of the running to be a Princess of Jahad
The reason why the Administrator said that it wasn’t a contract but shackles aren’t because they are trying to keep Bam in check. Notice how he says “For you” when speaking to Bam. He specifies Bam because Bam is an Irregular, he doesn’t follow the rules of the tower. Typically if you don’t form a contract with an Administrator you can’t use Shinsu without the use of a device like the Shinsu wand the girl doing her makeup used in the crown game. Since Irregulars don’t follow the rules of the tower they can use Shinsu freely without needing to be bound by a contract. Also, a contract while yes lets you use Shinsu it also limits how much you can use while Irregulars can use a much as they want however the contract puts limits, therefore, being shackles to Irregulars cause they can't use as much as they want.

No, what Baam saw was a Floor Administrator/Guardian, they rule that floor and are able to manipulate unfathomable amounts of shinsu where they reside and generally are considered to be immortal. There is a different guardian all 135+? floors of the tower (each floor of the tower is a continent large and usually has its own population/culture) Remember Headon? He rules floor one.

Although it may seem like being a Zahard (Jahad) Princess sucks because they can't love and all the other rules they have to adhere to, the reason they want to be a Princess is because they gain power that puts them in a different league compared to other Regulars. You see that even Anak here who only gained the power through her Mother and thus it is diluted, is still stronger than every other Regular here except Endorsi. They're described as the "ultimate species" because of it. And the social status that comes along with being a Princess as well
What Tower of God positions would Sheera, Roshi, and Lupa be? lol. Sheera's definitely the Lightbearer, crunching the heavy analysis. Roshi plays a stablizing role, so I would say Fisherman. Lupa is all out on the shenanigans and is a bit like Rak, so Spearman. This is a well-balanced team.
