Having both I can honestly say they are both really fun in their own way. The mini MAXX is more durable out of the box and performs flips in the air a lot more effortlessly than the X-Maxx but rolls over easily and needs thicker shock oil to land jumps better. The mini MAXX is a little more difficult to fly than the X-Maxx. The X-Maxx lands larger jumps better as Kevin says. If you get the widemaxx kit for the MAXX with the metal driveshafts and 70wt shock oil, you will have endless hours of indestructible fun. The X-Maxx for me has been Love/Hate. The loose pinion issue was frustrating but drilling a divot in the motor shaft and red loctite seems to have gotten me over the hump on that issue. The X-Maxx will require upgrades out of the box to be as reliable as the Maxx is stock but once you get the metal steering servo, rear RPM hubs and the pinion issue under control, it's very fun and reliable. The MAXX will begin to handle the turns almost as well as the X-Maxx with the widemaxx kit and stays durable with the metal driveshafts. Once you get to this point with these two trucks you are well on your way to no regrets and mostly smiles :-) ....but you should be happy with the trucks because all of these little "extras" add up.
For me with the xmaxx the esc set on fire and the bodys lasted no time if it rolled, hub bearings went too. It was a bit of a flying pig in the air but it was the most durable rig ive owned and the most capable/aggressive to thrash around
At that point (widemaxx+upgrades) isn't it better to just go with Rustler? I'm new to the hobby and still waiting for my first toy to arrive but I'm already researching my next one :)
Your videos are so addictive. I am a total novice and looking to get a car to develop an understanding of it, how it drives, how to fix it etc. After watching this I think I'll go for the maxx. Really appreciate some of your videos where you break things down a little slower and explain the parts of the car, what they do and simple ways to upgrade. Very inspirational and FUN, which is what life needs right!
Start with the slash 4x4 on 2s. At that power supply, it darn near indestructible, and will let you learn how to drive on the best performing platform. Move up to 3s once you've gained confidence, then start playing with your gearing to gain speed. There isn't a better car performance or parts availability wise. If you break it(you will) parts are everywhere.
My Xmaxx is going to my local skatepark for the first time tomorrow, what you say about the Xmaxx is 100% true, its nice being able to relate to what you say!
The xMaxx is awesome no doubt but you can run the Maxx on 2s-4s and it's a beast and you can actually carry it places. I would love an xmaxx but can't afford all the new batteries I would need and don't really have the room.
Some of my RC mates keep telling me that I shouldn't believe what I see in Kev's vids. That Xmaxx is not that strong really, etc. Each of them has one. I wanted a 1/10 basher so I got myself a minimaxx. They were also sceptical on that. And I keep proving 'em wrong since then.
awesome review and comparison. For me the MAXX is still the best RTR Basher ever. I love it. Fun, durable and with the wide kit.even more controllable. 👍👍👍
i watch ur videos every day they come out and iv watched them all i even got the x maxx bc it looked like a lot of fun didnt have a rc before i started watching ur videos so thanks for the inspiration my dude
I love to see you and your mates having so much fun. I know own four RC'S and I have my eye on a Maxx next. Your video's inspired me into the hobby. Thanks for sharing. John
I have some 1:5 scales and they are amazing to drive. - Losi 5ive, Xmaxx, and Kraton - however driving the 1:8 Scale cars on a track is just as much fun. But to be fair, some of these 1:8 scales are almost as expensive as the xmaxx, or even more expensive.
I love watching these videos every night before I go to bed. My son and I love running RC. I wish I could afford the XMAXX but it’s way out of my budget!
So close to 1 mil Kev!!! I remember my first time finding you, you had like 4-500 thousand subs. You inspired me to buy a xmaxx which I’m getting today!!!
Great video as usual! I'm kinda interested in the Mini Maxx. I made the mistake of buying a Pro-Line Pro-MT 4X4 this spring, and just a couple of months later PL announced the they are discontinuing the Pro-MT... It's really annoying since I like the little truck... So when I'm out of spare parts, or sold, it looks like the Mini Maxx is the logical replacement. And hopefully Traxxas will keep the model alive longer than Pro-Line did. Also, the Mini Maxx looks like it's Kev-safe (when he's not sending it into the rear axle of a Land Rover), which is a plus 😄
I have both cars and I think the maxx is better for backflips and bashing but the X maxx is better for high jumps and speed runs, but overall both cars are awesome!
I know I’m 3 years late, but still enjoying the vids. A few or 5 years back I had a Typhon and Granite, both 3s. I really liked both cars but found myself more “bashing” than doing any on-road stuff so I leaned more toward the Granite. I got rid of them and am really missing the fun of RC lately. Thinking about getting another Granite but that mini Maxx is really calling to me. LHS has TONS of Traxxas parts in stock. Very little in the way of ARRMA though he can order anything available. Really tempted to go Traxxas on this one! Not Kevin level bashing, just some skatepark fun.
So for anyone interested. I have both trucks stock form. In idaho in 20 deg weather my xmaxx breaks arms very easily. The mini max will take hell and I have the wide arms. Just a thought going into the cold season. I basically park xmaxx in winter and have a blast with the mini maxx
Xmaxx will always be king even with the max competition. love your vids man keep them up, and what do you think is better a pocket bike or a 2 stroke bike kit
I'm going to say smaller is better. Lower initial price, lower upgrade cost, lower repair cost, lower medical bills when I inevitably crash it into myself or someone else. I can have two Maxxs for the price of one XMAXX.
that xmaxx needs some gearing, run it 22/50 hardened (the extra load of higher gears is a lot of extra stress) and i think you will like it as much as the 1600 kv motor on 18/50, stock esc might not like that though, forgot that one is still bone stock.. cheers
hey kelvin, try use vinegar, it can remove the rusty part, I tried on my battery holder and it worked but dont use vinegar too much or you would destroy the metal :3
Hey Kev , I appreciate that you don't edit out all the not so perfect landings etc. Makes your video more realistic & believable! Happy Holidays brother!!🎄
Iv noticed that the wheelie bar makes the truck flip over more I think its better with out it the Xmaxx you definitely inspired me two get it and glad i did these truck are awesome and love it 👍👍👍
Traxxas now needs to make a M-Maxx or Maxx Mini a 1/16th scale version. An even smaller version so there is 3 different scales of the RC for price and space available.
Something that I see rarely mentioned is the pain-in-the-ass that is transporting a bigger-scale RC. Between the X-Maxx and my 5B, I've had my fair share of carrying these things around. And at 6'5, I'm not a small guy, but it's so much easier to carry around a 1/10 scale and bring it places. The X-Maxx is harder to fit into the trunk, it's harder to carry to the car when something breaks
Thanks for not beating up the jumps much they are very hard to maintain also if the jumps have just been surfaced or are freshly built please wair. Couple of days because the jumps are very prone to damage if the dirt is fresh
I love them both, but if I had to pick it would be the Maxx with Widemaxx kit. I find the X-Maxx just too damn big. Barely fits in my trunk, harder to find good spots, more expensive to fix. If I bought another it would be a Maxx.

A bit cheaper than xmaxx
Fast
Big wheels
Good sunspension
Good durability
