- The president who calls himself the ‘world’s coolest dictator’ says he just scored the largest election win in history. El Salvador’s Nayib Bukele suspended civil liberties to conduct a sweeping crackdown on gang violence which proved popular with voters.

Al Jezeera and other mainstream media news outlets got the title wrong. He's not a dictator. He did what he needed to do prevent any more murders and create a sense of security for the citizens and visitors of El Salvador. Glad that the country is being run by a leader who values human life and opportunity versus previous administrations controlled by gangsters.
As a salvadorian he is not a dictator hes an extrimist for sure but he did what needed to be done and was reward with another term because of it.

@mokiloke well he's "temporarily" removed the right to privacy and a fair trail which had it been any other place would have been for sure a terrible terrible thing but given the situation it was a necessary evil. As for whether he good or bad is dependent on how long this "temporary" becomes.

Being a dictator do not mean you are a bad person, Lee Kuan Yew the founding father of Singapore was known to be beloved by his people for transforming it to its current state. He is what we call a benevolent dictator and I hope bukele is one.
It’s possible that life under a benevolent dictatorship could be great, where it goes wrong is the power vacuum after they’re gone. That’s where the nation has to tread carefully and look out for bad actors.
