So the original game was the reason we got Sabre wolf for Killer Instinct well you learn something new everyday
Animezilla 44 - Maybe the spirit in Konrad is the same one from this game?
... Eh, probably not.
I always watch these videos when I take a shit at work. Somehow every time, there is a new video and it lasts exactly the time I need to take a shit. I think it's a wonderful thing and I wanted to share this great story with you. Have a great day
The Spectrum version was very popular. That's why I clicked on this out of curiousity.
Ultimately, the blue wolf’s most crushing defeat wasn’t by an old man in Safari clothes, it was realising that he could’ve been a regularly coloured wolf if not for the crippling depression causing him to lash out at those around him and turn blue
If only the old man had seen the warning signs peppered throughout the wolf’s self-deprecating Facebook posts, and thought to use Prozac instead of an amulet.
Maybe the wolf’s greatest enemy wasn’t that old man, but true happiness.
Prozac? What is this, 1988? Get this wolf something more recent than that
@@SNESdrunk Prozac's still prescribed, tho.
@@SNESdrunk I'm still administering prozac in the clinical setting...long term efficacy and safety are better establish in older meds rather than the new generation psychotropics.
@@SNESdrunk Zoloft? Lexapro?
@@SNESdrunk "Get this wolf something more recent than that"
I'm not sharing my Cocaine *>_0*

What's all this, then?
It's always nice when you review games on GBA and other platforms.
I love SNES Drunk's videos, and have so since their inception. Keep up the good work, and thank you for all the effort you put into these to make them extremely enjoyable to watch.
We say zed in Canada too! It's okay to say zee though too cause we nice.
This game was made after Rare was sold to Microsoft and they were only allowed to make portable games for non-Microsoft platforms.
Ultimate Play the Game set the standard for programming in the ZX Spectrum days. Beside the many glorious games and "they sold a million" acknowledgements, they invented smart coding solutions that created efficiency and best practice that inspired the whole industries. Without pioneers like Ultimate, game development would not have moved forward as fast as it has.
By the way, i had the speed record for Atic Atac in Your Sinclar magazine WELL beat at about 7 years of age. Something i'm proud of even today as a 42 year old. :)
One thing I liked from this game was the "Run like the wind!" phrase
I’m sure SNESDrunk stole my GBA back in the day at the mall of America in Minnesota when I put it down to order some cheese pizza from Sbarros back in the July of 2001..let me catch him slipping and it’s hands on sight. Don’t think I ever forgot Snessy 🤔✊🏿😡😂😂😂
Shots fired!!
Oh and by the way for you wild and untamed bastards out there who question whether you should or shouldn’t go down the SNESdrunk rabbit hole..y’all are cheating yourselves if you don’t embrace the wisdom my friends...
fr???
@@deleteable. No...come on now if you have paid any kind of attention to homie’s videos you know he has way more integrity then that. I just said that shit to be funny. For the record I never even owned a GBA 😂
@@madspunky 😂😂😂
I've been watching this channel for a couple years now. And I gotta say you've really come into your own as a creator. I was watching some of your first videos, and they had this sound like you were making the videos at 2am in your bedroom and didn't want your parents to hear or something (maybe it was just the mic you were using at the time?). But nowadays your "stage presence" (for lack of a better term) has really come leaps and bounds from where you started. Glad to see you still keeping at it. Always look forward to seeing a new video from my favorite channel!
I enjoyed Sabrewulf the first time I played it on GBA. Not sure I would feel the same today though, will have to give it another go.
I see Saber Wulfs title logo borrows heavily from The Dark Crystal logo font.
Could be as Dark Crystal was released two years before the original Saber Wulf
It's funny the places you see that particular typeface pop up now & then. Unmistakable when it happens though.
it's very "Rodney Matthews". reminds me of the old Travellers Tales logo
I thought that looked extremely familiar
Total length of video: 339 secs.
Total length of "SNES Drunk": 3.5 secs.
1.03% of the video was spent listening to "SNES Drunk".
please don't ever stop your service to the fans of this channel... this is the critical info we all need every episode
Haa!
i'm "officially" considering This to be SaberWolf's backstory for Killer Instinct.
😄👍
‘Tangenically’ -_-
It's when you go on a Tengen tangent... normally reserved for NES reviews.
Tangenically nookyaler. Hey hey people, Seff here wiff anuvver review.
Can't believe I had to scroll so far to see this.
possibly more lore for Sabrewulf? always glad to find out more about it
One of my favorite Rare games is RC Pro Am for the NES.
I remember playing this game on a GBA emulator 12 years ago, but my first experience with this game was a review of the game in a local version of the UK gaming magazine GamesMaster. Too bad my cousin played this game a lot that I would reset the game from the beginning again. Also Sabreman had its own series which spawned five games prior to this reboot. There is also Sabreman Stampede, which was in development by Rare for the Xbox and later for Xbox 360, but never came out.
Review the Klonoa GBA games god bless you.
@@nobodyinparticular9640 yeah the games are all great, but the puzzles in the gba versions are soooo good
@@yes.6892 I was really wanting to replay Empire of Dreams recently. I played it back when I was 7 years old and I had no idea who the hell Klonoa was but I still loved the first GBA game.
Dream champ very much proved to be sequel done right, I tell ya.
@@yes.6892 I've been playing gba klonoa recently. I'm not used to it's kind of gameplay so the small range on his blast/ pick up thing can be difficult to get the timings down especially on the racing levels.
I mean fair enough man, Empire of dreams wasn't really the best it has its issues honestly, the bosses weren't exactly the best and the racing levels require I'd say too much memorization but it had some pretty clever puzzles that made you think out side the box in reaching those key stones which made me enjoy it more as I played it and this aspect of the gameplay was further exemplified and updated in Dream champ tournament were they introduce new enemies, an upgrade in the looks department, better implemented mechanics, more optional variety in completion and collectibles, better constructed and challenging boss battles (if you can call it that), a lot more challenging (and not to mention fair) EX stages and not to mention better constructed levels that encourage level design variety in both puzzles and exploration, and while not every decision they made in the game sat well with me (The things you need to restrain yourself from doing when getting the S rank) it stills feels like it lives up to games like Drill dozer and Wario land 4, in my opinion anyhow.
"Why does that sound familiar?" I love it
Explain
This game reminds me of Tomba 2 for some reason
SNESDrunk got them old school wisecrack skills.
This game is soooooo good, remember playing it in my GBA back on the day, I'll play it again because of this video
I remember this well with others from the same time frame on ZX Spectrum - Knight Lore & Underwurlde. Great games - along with Jetpac and Lunar Jetman, Psytron and Combat Lynx. There was another that I cannot remember the name of... a Harrier Jump Jet game.
Snow stage looks just like DKC's, I love that. Zee X Spectrum just sounds wrong, haha
Sounds like a game title. Ballistic: Zee Ecks vs. Spectrum
@@Projectwolfie21 Full Spectrum Warrior
Hey, if we can pronounce ZZ Top like you, you can pronounce ZX Spectrum like us.
I’m a big fan of Zed Zed Top
I want to thank you for making this video and hope you have a great rest of your day
I was rewacthing some of you gba vídeos...great vídeo...banjo tooie was the teasing this game with the character of the game apearing in one mission in halfire peak (Sorry my bad English)
Great video in a great series.
I would love it if you did one about the Lost Vikings games.
the award for the best video I just started watching three seconds ago goes to.... Snes drunk
More GBA Drunk please! These reviews are great.
I played this so much back when I was a kid
played this game as a child. its absolutely one of my favourite childhood games
Huge fan of that dialogue audio
That ZX game that you're showing early on in the video, is it that game you can secretly find putting in some kind of code in Goldeneye on the N64?
We need more GBA Reviews! Can you make a review for Castlevania :Aria of sorrow?
my favorite (along with Dawn of Sorrow) in the franchise!
I love the GBA. Wish the sound chip was better, but still my favorite portable ever made.
2:20 "hey, it wouldn't be a proper Rare game if there weren't happy go lucky animals to help you out"
*looks at Goldeneye and Perfect Dark*
Sadly there were no happy go lucky animals in the movie Goldeneye, so that wasn't an option there, however in Perfect Dark they made up for it with happy go lucky aliens.
You should like, review Rare's other Game Boy Advance title It's Mr. Pants!, if just to explain what the hell is going on in it. It's surprisingly impenetrable for what's supposed to be a simple puzzler.
Can you make a video on top 13 GBA games Or the top 13 hardest games on GBA ?
Can anybody tell me the name of the video from this channel in which the intro is super long, taking most of the video? PLEASE, I can't remember
Race Drivin'

i like it when game developers revisit an old game they made and reboot it. SNK please do Crystalis!
would you count the GBC one as sort of a reboot?
I like to imagine this is the adventures of Commander McBrag from Underdog
Well done on the pronouncement of Z, us Brits do appreciate it.
I made all gold time in the levels. I really like the Challenger
Have you done a best of amiga or hidden gems of amiga? I have 3,000 amiga games on my multicade and no idea where to start.
Never heard of this game, I’m shocked and excited
hey man, just want to thank you for this content, haven't even watched it yet but just seeing this new nostalgic shit just cheers me the fuck up, so thanks
I didn't even know this game existed! Does that make it a rare Rare game?
What is this Spectrum you speak of?
The visuals and playstyle of the original ZX Spectrum version reminds me of Firelord.
4:20 aaand first time I'm drinking from a bottle and a burst of laughter makes me end up with only half a bottle immediately X-D
Speaking of Banjo-Kazooie, Sabreman is literally in Banjo-Tooie. Not sure if he's got the same name, but he looks exactly like he does in this game.
I was about to say this! It’s when you get to hail fire peaks, isn’t it?
@@tetsusiega2 Yep.
I only ever got three amulet pieces when I was playing the Speccy game aged around 9. I'm glad you found and engaged with the roots of this GBA game. Also, how much does that snow level look like Donkey Kong Country?
Yea used to swap speccy cassettes in playground when I was a kid. Played sabre wolf back in the 80s. Pretty good game for the time
I remember playing this on an GBA emulator and enjoying it. I just might download it again and play it.
Speaking of level design, we need a video list dealing with the best (and maybe worst) level designs in platform games.
Pumpin' out the videos, man!
Nice this looks good. Gruntys Revenge and Banjo Pilot next?? :D
This game was my CHILDHOOD!!!
I needed a minute or two before the scales fell off my eyes and I could see what you meant when you said it looked like a combination of older Rare games. This game screams 'Donkey Kong!' on every screen, you could just replace the main character with any Kong and you'd have Donkey Kong Land Country Tropical Return 2, Random Kong's Quest for the GBA! Although I think that Sabre Wulf would be quite surprised to be ridden by a 500 pound gorilla...
Did you play metal slug GBA or the Neo Geo Pocket version?
HEY! You should do "Technocop" for SEGA. Had it as a kid, dope game
I played the original on the ZX Spectrum. I never knew it came out on the GBA. Time to download a rom from somewhere
Sabrewulf for GBA is fun. I got it and Mario vs Donkey Kong, which is also a sort of puzzle platformer for the GBA. Sabrewulf is better, the levels are more addicting and the overworld map makes more sense.
Wow, that is interesting that's it's connected to both a Z(ed)X Spectrum game and Killer Instinct (sorta). Too bad it doesn't tell us how that thing became KI's Saberwulf. Imagine if they somehow connected it story wise...a kiddie ass game being connected to a more violent game. Although it wouldn't be any different from Conker going from cutesy to Bad Fur day...shrug.
Sabrewulf was always my fav Killer Instict character.
Zed x spectrum, thats its real name and yes, its british!
Ultimate play the game is a class name and Sabre Wulf is great too!
It's a nice little game.
Completed the first sabre wulf on the BBC. Loved it, the lotus flowers are the key to plough through it. The keyboard controls on the speccy sucked, so it was good to play on the beeb with a competition pro joystick. Never got a chance to play it with a joystick on the speccy, I think they keys were 5,6,7,8 and 9 for up down left right fire, and you couldn't redefine the keys!
Hey do you think you could do a review for ao no tengai oriental blue? It's a fan translated gba jrpg that is a spinoff from the tengai makyou series.
You inspire me SNESDRUNK. Your straightforward no-nonsense approach is refreshing, and really allows your obviously developed writing skills to shine. Keep it up dude you rock 🤘
Huh...I knew about the original ZX spectrum game, but nothing about a GBA sequel, how neat, it looks fun lol.
Please review Mech Platoon for GBA. It's an RTS game.
Also Body Harvest for N64.
C-C-Combo break...right! Not that Sabrewulf XD Great review snesdrunk!
Saberwulf also made a cameo in banjo kazooie.
4:27 Poor wolf ☹️ cue the Charlie Brown Christmas / Arrested Development “Christmas Time Is Here” sad walking music meme 😆
Sabre Man: "Gotta go find those 8 pieces of the amulet... DIABEETUS!"
I remember playing a lot of this as a child, never finished though.
Have you looked at Kuru Kuru Kururin? A played that one A LOT.
"Zed X". Well done, pal.
Next up on GBA...URBAN YETI!!!! fingers crossed
and this is gonna be a good day,
with Dunder Mifflin and Sabre
wolf,
yeaaaaaeaaeeayayaeaa
SNES DRUNK is the indiana jones of finding retro games 👒
Pretty cool. Thanks, dude.
so apparently i did your intro in my sleep. thanks.
This looks BEAUTIFUL. DK vibes all around. I guess emulation is the only way to play this…? No Virtual console version?
Not a lot of collab between Microsoft-owned Rare and Nintendo these days.
Whomever keeps putting the intro in SponsorBlock is an absolute monster.
If im not wrong there was a 3d open world game with the same character for the xbox 360 that was cancelled, dont remember the name
that guy speaking sounds like the guy from the original Street Fighter "there are fighters like all over the world"
Pretty good music.
Sabreman was in Banjo tooie
"Pooooul, you was a warwilf."
Heyyeayeayeay
Dunder Mifflen is a part of Sabré!
Sabreman was also in Banjo-Tooie
Looks good for a gba game.
Hahaha well thanks man. Always wondered why they said ZED-L or something!
Recommend checking out Strip Fighter II for PC Engine. Hilarious and sexy satire of Street Fighter II (and there is no Strip Fighter 1, just like there is arguably no Street Fighter 1 ;) )
Wonder how many people saw the name and *Rareware* logo thinking it had something to do with Killer Instinct? Like a spinoff or whatever? 😗
This was actually just the portable companion game to the cancelled Sabreman Stampede game for the original Xbox.
Charlie Brown's teacher once said: Buaa Buaa Bua Buuua. Changed my life that phrase.
It's really odd that they called the game Sabre Wulf, even though it's an entirely different game from the original Sabre Wulf. You could say it's some kind of sequel or continuation, but the original game itself had three sequels which were not called Sabre Wulf, they were called Underwurlde, Knight Lore, and Pentagram. And it's not even the most popular or definitive game in the series, that would be Knight Lore.
