He died over the summer without ever watching it. He preferred westerns. I kept it for myself and watched the shit out of it multiple times over the next month.
Initially, I felt the same as you did about The Wire. Rather, I despise “cop shows” for the message and narrative of the “hero cop” they promote in society. In fact, the only “cop shows” I tolerate are Hill Street Blues (for the acting and writing. The Wire actually owes a bit of gratitude to HSB, in my opinion) and Starsky and Hutch (because of the Gran Torino). I despise “cop shows” so much that I ignored The Wire until the final season, thinking it was just like all the rest. That changed during the final season when I was in a shared living situation and we would all gather on Sunday nights to watch it with enthusiasm.

UK what's funny to me about that statement. Yes all three of them died but they all died as a result of the unpredictability of the streets. Stringer died because Avon betrayed him and gave him up to brother muzonne who informed omar about his whereabouts. Prop Joe died because Marlo betrayed him and I don't know how he didn't see that coming. Omar died because his ideals and way of seeing things betrayed him. He didn't think a child was a threat and would never put his hand on children to begin with so didn't think of the possibilities. They were all betrayed in some way. The ultimate message being you can love the game but the game don't love you back and will betray you at any given time.

Bubs was a crack head. The only thing they are loyal to is getting high. Omar only applies the rules of the game to those who follow the rules. If they had just given Brandon an ass whopping or even just ransomed him back for the drugs, he would have taken that on the cheek and moved on. Even if they had just killed him he would have stuck to the code and just come back at them with guns blazing. But they tortured him and them desecrated his body. That's what made it personal. He was out to get them by any means necessary.
