Considering the high death rates of homeless Brits living in dangerous conditions it wouldn't be unreasonable for Brits to seek asylum in France or elsewhere.

It's appealing because in France they would be refused, but the UK will rubber stamp an Asylum application... with very little of them being refused and once here they won't be removed.
Would £50,000+ in benefits have something to do with it? Border Farce acts as a taxi service and buys the illegals free pizza on arrival, they get FREE eye care and FREE dental (not available to UK citizens), they get three FREE meals a day (not available for homeless soldiers), they get £45 a week 'pocket money' (many people in the UK don't have a spare £45 after paying bills), they don't have to pay for power or heating or the BBC licence (unlike our pensioners) and they get 4 or 5 star accommodation worth in excess of £51,000 a year (based on the average cost of a 4 star hotel north of the M25 of £150 a night - the elites don't want them in London living next to them for god sake). And now they now get FREE iPads and interest FREE loans. Is it any wonder that thousands are arriving every day?
