    A lot of this is super luxury stuff. I like that he calls it "recommended" instead of making it seem like this is all basic equipment. For example the chain counter ($1350) which is a device that replaces spray painting or putting a tag on your anchor chain($12-$20). It seems completely unnecessary but he is likely controlling his anchor from the helm remotely and the standard would force him to take what on his boat is a long walk when he should be focusing on other things (like setting the anchor). Very knowlegable, very nice boat, very well equipped.

    • @SailingSVHappyTogether
      @SailingSVHappyTogether  5 лет назад

      Hi Eric, thanks for your comment and you are correct. Mostly luxury items. I have spray painted my anchor chain for years until now. Thanks for watching! Randy

    Wow, just Wow!!! By far one of the BEST walkthroughs of what works and what doesn't I have ever seen. Thank you so much for doing this video, especially for the Leopard as that is my favorite boat and I want to know what to get and also be confident that it is tried and true and not a waste of money. Based on what you have recommended over at least 6 years of cruising, I would be a bonehead moron NOT to follow your recommendations, LOL...I will probably get all of the same things you have as I can't see any item not being a necessity to having an enjoyable and worry free cruising experience . I am amazed at how CLEAN your boat is and how organized everything is, absolute perfection, hats off to you both. A clean and organized boat is a happy boat as far as I am concerned. Blessings to you and your wife. I hope to see you out on the big blue someday. Keep Smile'n and thank you again for an amazing video.

      Hi J Sten, Thanks so much for watching our channel!!! Tell us your favorite episode!! Well here is the thing. All the boats are great and yes the 50 is quite a lot to handle for the two of us. We have several friends who have purchased the 45 and it might just be the right boat for a couple with TONS of room to spare. We bought the 50 because we like to entertain and we often have all the kids etc. We also like the extra comfort of a large boat. There is no right and wrong but I would have to suggest the 45. Especially if it is your first boat. Thanks again for your enthusiasm! Randy

You guys have a time cruising and let us know if you would like have us meet somewhere for a week and hang out on happy together we would prefer to contribute to you guys instead of paying for a few days private charter. We have narrowed our purchase down to either a 48 or 50 leopard love that front cockpit and the utility to room is amazing. We have our oceanfront home 100% off grid solar with 20kw of lithium and batteries and a 8 kw sol ark controller inverter system and we love it. @@sandralee5621 Hi Sandra, WOW what a house electrical setup! That is awesome. We sold the 48 for 700,000 but today they are selling for closer to 550,000 to 650,000. The 48 and the 50 are great sailing boats. Either one will do. So glad you are enjoying our show. We don't do charter work but their are plenty of opportunities like that available as several people do. I you google Leopard 50 catamaran charter I think you will find some cool options. Nothing wrong with moorings either but if you go with a couple who owns one you will learn a ton more than chartering. Good luck! Randy

    Great walk through of the options list.
    Those lists frankly can be terrifying to read.
    Funny note, I was just yelled at by a cruiser for my estimated budget for my boat, you guys are clearly not in the "don't ever spend more than 100k on a cruiser boat" category. Im pretty sure your options blew the 100k mark ha ha. (BTW. we see eye-to-eye on this)

    I have a new Lagoon 42 on order so I found this video very informative. I would love to hear more about your downwind sail choice. It looks like you have an asymmetrical spinnaker. Would you consider a symmetrical or parasailor next time? What sail maker did you use? Thank you.

    • @SailingSVHappyTogether
      @SailingSVHappyTogether  6 лет назад

      Hi Hound, I have an assymetrical spinnaker and I tested the Parasailor but found it a bit cumbersome to fly. With that said the parasailor is the best true downwind sail for a cat. We may have both for our next boat. I am glad you liked the video! Randy

    This was excellent Randy. I have a question about the KVH TracPhone. I’ve been looking at it online and am wondering if it will fit my needs. I, too, plan to work aboard my boat and need to have ready access to the internet. Since I’m designing textiles and carpet, my files are Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator files which tend to be large and will be emailed to clients then back to me for corrections, etc. Sometimes I can use a JPG or TIFF format, which condenses the files, although I’m not sure by how much. Would 2GB enough data for large files like that? Thanks Randy! Peace & blessings

    • @SailingSVHappyTogether
      @SailingSVHappyTogether  6 лет назад

      Hi Kia, I think the data would be a killer. You would need an unlimited plan. What they do is charge you less but no cap on megs. The problem is they slow down your speed. But you could send your emails at night and it wouldn't matter if it took 5 minutes to send a few files at night. That is what I am thinking for you. Randy

      If you are copying data that caches well, you may want to investigate WAN optimization systems.

    Would you go to an in boom or in mast main sail furling system ? Or stay with the stack pack ? I'm thinking about buying your boat when you buy your new one . I think single handing would be easier without the stack pack . Your thoughts ?

    • @SailingSVHappyTogether
      @SailingSVHappyTogether  6 лет назад

      Hi Z, We have done a ton of research on the in boom furling and in the end decided to stay with the stack pack. Its less of a "system" and bulletproof for offshore use. Also the in boom adds 300 LB's to the boat. Thanks Randy

    How do you get around the use tax on am expensive boat like this in a high tax state let us say California or Massachusetts .

    • @SailingSVHappyTogether
      @SailingSVHappyTogether  4 года назад +1

      Hi Jas, Well I don't know if its avoidable since you have to pay tax in the state you buy and use the boat. Many catamaran owners like us buy the boat and head off to the Caribbean so not state tax is paid since you aren't using it there. In the case of both our cats we closed and left within 60 days so Florida did not require us to pay tax. Randy

    Thanks, Randy, this was very informative. Any reason you don't have a soft-start? Any plans on having a soft-start on your new boat? Also, you cut out on your router internet antenna. Because of cellular service, would you still have an internet antenna on your new boat? And something you did not mention (maybe it is a standard option), lightning protection. Does your electronics have any lightning protection? I understand there are these devices that are like a circuit breaker only for lighting. Thanks again!

      Hi Ergetodrive, She will be for sale around October when she gets back to Florida. On almost all catamarans, helm position seem to be like an afterthought rather than incorporated into design. Almost as if whole catamaran is made, then cut the hard top and slap helm there.

    • @SailingSVHappyTogether

      Hi Asimsparks, yes it’s always a challenge. Gunboat puts them inside and forward. Outremer puts them on each side in the back. Most cruising cats are like ours for obvious reasons. Thanks Randy
