    Brother you have awesome reviews and are so blessed to have as many boards that you have.

    I ride my 7'3 Sunday with a single fin or as a Thruster (in bigger waves). I use the FCS II: HI Longboard Tri-Fins. Works really good for me. And then I can do Twinnies as well. Very versatile.
    Thanks for the update. Always enjoy your reviews. I almost bought an OVA myself recently.
    Cheers!

      Yeah I can see it would go well in a solid wave as a single fin especially a point break I bet. Cheers for the feedback too good to know it works as a tri fin too I thought it might be a bit off with the fins that far back but it's still a slippery twin so guess not.
      Really keen on the Ova now hopefully the local crew secure me one, I think it's just a bit more my style for board and fin set up.
      The Sunday felt soooo good as a board I nearly just added some rear boxes but thought I had better let it go and move on and back to a stock quad option. I really like the thunderbolt tech so hopefully it works as well in a mid as the longboards.
      Cheers,

    Great review!
    Re the Twin fins, I find if you have your back foot over the fin, and your weight loaded gradually to the back of the board over the fin through the turn, they don't slip. In fact they have tonnes of hold, and so much speed.
    If you're turning with your back foot in front of the fin with your weight forward, they definitely will slip.
    I'm not a massively back footed surfer, but I found when my feet and weight are right....twins are tough to beat! It's been a bit of a revelation!
    Apologies, if you've tried that and you're still finding the slipping issues! Appreciate it may seem obvious, Im no expert, but I found there's a definite style to surfing them, which once you figure out....is bloody amazing!
    6'2 Form Flowstik Pro, which is an exclusive Twin fin rounded pin, is proving to be one of the best boards I've ever owned.
    Cheers for the great content and your home shapes look super fun!
    Nick

      Nah that's cool mate I appreciate the feedback. That was also my assessment of the situation. I can find the same when I'm riding boards with wings and steps in the tail I feel like I can get a good result if I'm right in the sweet spot but not if I'm not. Then you add high volume epoxy mid length length to the equation and it gets worst. It was actually really grippy and fast in waves under head high and I white likes it but once it got a bit bigger I didn't. I happily accept that it's probably my style and technique that's the issue in twins but it's pretty hard to re learn or have to behave unnaturally at my age lol so I just made my own version as a quad with a pu blank and it's honestly a far better board for my personal style so I'm happy with that. Ironically my mate has a high volume home made fish and I find that grips well and feels confident on drops. A lot is fun position relative to the feel your looking for and also out waves here are so weak you often have to ride furthet up the board just to get going. Thanks for you comments though I do agree with you just after going through a few twin fins it's been enough to just say "it's not you it's me" to twin fins 😂😂

      @@lawson45uk hey mate, thanks for the reply to my reply! Glad you got what i was saying as in no way was i trying to sound like the guru, as I'm far from it! I just had a break through with it a while back, and found it really interesting. It totally changed my outlook on all things Twin! Its possibly my current favorite catagory (& very on trend...deep sigh), its odd how these things go!
      I made about 6 or 7 boards a while back now, and your recent mid has inspired me to get back on it. Thats Mids a lovely shape and a very high quality finish you achieved there, impressive stuff!
      Your content is great and I've referred to your vids numerous times before making purchases - cheers and keep them coming!!
      Much appreciated, Nick

      Hi Nick. Nah your all good mate. I get where you are coming from. Same for me my opinion is exactly that just my opinion and it's actually great to hear from the wider community on things like this as if I have an opinion on a board or some fins or something relating to technique etc and multiple people have the same opinion I feel more confident it was more likely true than just my opinion if that makes sense :-) Thanks for your kind words on the feedback too. I'm still far from the level of most shapers and still consider myself a half decent hobby shaper lol but I feel I can put out a nice shape and a decent finish with what I have learnt. Best part is being able to make exactly what you want. Hard part is getting it to come out as exactly what you want lol Mint that's cool your making your own boards too it's really rewarding just too hard on my body for me to do many now and everything is so expensive. I'm glad you like twins and can get them to work for you and i'm glad people these days ride what they like.. That's what it's all about.. If everyone loves twin fin mids and enjoys riding them it's awesome if everyone was riding just one type of board just because it's cool and fashionable but impractical that would kinda suck. I like that everything is acceptable again now and that everyone is interested in new designs and prepared to give things a go. I'm not buying or making much lately.. Been pretty happy on just the Special T and the Mid I made for the last few months. Cheers mate. Thanks for getting in touch and have a great time over the festive season :-)

    Thanks for your insights mate, great to hear honest, tried and tested feedback. It’s hard to find reviews that aren’t just spruiking a board for the sake of it. I’d actually ordered a 7’0” Sunday before I came across your review and after listening to your feedback I think I’ve made the right purchase. I love surfing twinnies but didn’t want to invest in a twin-only mid length so the Sunday really seems to fit the bill. I’m too heavy for my short boards these days so I’ve been riding an 8’4” Gato Heroi Acid 2020 but really struggling to duck dive and get out the back on bigger days. First board I’ve bought new off the shelf in 15 years as I’ve been sceptical about the longevity of mass produced boards but the helium tech sounds promising.
    Anyways, keep up the great content and thanks for sharing your 2 cents! ✌🏼

      Cool thanks very much for the feedback Sean. Yeah cool from what your saying it sounds like you will really like the Sunday. Be keen to know how you get on with it. Helium construction generally seems to be decently made these days. It is a little lighter so can feel a little more slippery at first but usually pretty lively and fairly durable. The Sunday was the board that surprised me with how much volume I could duck dive if the length and nose size was right. Unfortunately the Ova is a Proving a little more difficult even with less volume and a thinner nose just because it's a more rounded shape. Im really pleased with the one I made myself as a quad that's been a great board and definitely took plenty of inspiration from the Sunday so there are definitely benefits to a least trying out some of the stock designs these days as there are so many more sensible designs for rocker and volume appearing than there used to be. People are finally getting real and so are the manufacturers. Cheers

      @@lawson45uk yeah it was made to be used in longer sizes. I think the shorter sizes are just FireWire marketing.
      I surf the same break as Machado and been to his store a few times. The handshaped Sunday’s are all longer in length and not as bloaty, if that makes sense.

    hey mate enjoyed ur review cheers! was hanging out for the second half haha.in mean time i ended up getting the 7'3 sunday after over a year and a half break from surfing. only surfed it once 3-4 ft east coast northland and rode it as a twin -amks.i love the projection down the line made sections and got some nice feeling top turns. i did find my bottom turns abit slippery . i also had a bit of difficulty at first with paddle position almost nose dived first wave and other waves rolled under me.longest board iv ridden in a long time. I eventually paddled in deeper on a the wave and maybe adjusted my positioning and got some good ones.I was able to duck dive it to my suprise and also ride backhand .All in all im happy with it cant wait to surf it next swell and may experiment with a trailer fin.
    id like to get another board for bigger waves / punchier waves.
    would u say the seaside and beyond or ci mid would overlap alot? thunderbolt moe etc look cool but exspensive.

    • @lawson45uk
      @lawson45uk  2 года назад

      Hi Luke. Cheers for that ;-) Yeah AMK the bigger more grippy of the keels available too glad it wasn't just me and yeah crazy it's still really easy to duck dive so many litres think the nose being pulled in a bit helps. Never had any issues with paddle position but I have certainly heard about it multiple times. As far as the other boards it's kinda hard to say I think as far as wave range the Beyond and CI Mid and Moe all probably reasonably similar but even just in terms of fin set ups there will be a lot of differences too. it's tough to say.. If you wanted less volume and something more refined and performance orientated there is something like the Mid 6. I was looking at that but in a 7'0" it's basically almost a step up for nz and low volume. You could go the 7'6" again still fairly performance. There is so much now to be honest Pysel Mid Life, Chilli Mid Strength etc just really depends on what your looking to achieve.. I often wondered if i should have got the CI mid but yeah if you do like the Sunday it's definitely one of the bet shapes out there for Mids if those fin set ups suit you. The Mo could be really complementary too if you dont mind bigger sizes. Check out Realwatersports in the states they have reviews on here with the mo etc. The Outlier looked nice too but I was worried about the hull bottom up front. Thats why i'm eying up the Ova. It's got decent volume but not too much 7 ft which is kinda my prefered length and it's quad and single and quad is my favorite fin set up. I love the thunderbolt tech too so. The CI mid in PU would probably suit me well too but I want to get something that works as a quad. My old Sadhana piggy works so well as a single fin in waves upto head and a bit i'm always dissapointed when I spend a fortune trying to go one better and fail :-) lol It's one of Jays best models and mine was Someone elses custom and the best one I have ridden so far. Maybe stick with your Sunday and keep an eye out for one of the other models second hand that way you can always get your money back on it if its not the one for you. Cheers

      @@lawson45uk the piggy does look cool and well roundedl!its interesting and relatable how u gravitate towards quads and singles or so it seems. i use to like quads after learning on long board years ago on west coast and then experimenting and progressing with shortboards and tryna find what worked for me fishes etc ..thrusters quads and twins. i think im a similar style surfer to you im a larger guy close to 100kg atm and enjoy speed and critical sections but dont do snappy turns and more enjoying carving and other more 'basic' maneuvers.in saying that i can tell when a board allows me to feel more 'free' . the regular guy reviews are really good too i think but from a world away.. i want to get a classic style long board again at some stage but for now aiming for the 2 board mid quiver . i havnt geled with single fins in the past at all besides a classic style nose rider i once had .. forget the brand but had a bear on the symbol i think . loved it with a hatchet i think its called style fin ..
      anyway where im going is do u think the Machado 7.5 fin is a good one for the sunday? or recomened any others i should try ?.. if i dared to haha even single fins are exspensive and thing is in past iv ridden twin in big waves and while.not doing bugger all along the wave been happy with the feelings of big drop speed along the face making it the whole way etc etc. single fin surfing looks.cool but for when id use one i think a single with sides bites for some reason appeals more. ( funny how its called a 2 plus one now ..i thought 2 plus 1 was twin and.trailer haha) and yeah mate always have a eye out on the market i saw ur 7'0.sunday pop up. greedy beavers another i see but somehow dont think its what im after. cheers for the rant and advice i do think a more refined shape like u mentioned might be better ... aslong as i act surf it and get the bigger waves haha look forward to ur next video and hope ur enjoying winter down there!

      @@lukewadham1726 just off to bed so short reply sorry but yeah 7.5 Machado single works I had it in mine. It's fairly upright but it's a decent surface area so bit of area. Sometimes you can score those 20% off and free shipping on hyper on the right day. The greenough 4A also really good. Night be a bit much hut at 100kg on the 7'3" you cpikdaube even push up to the 8" captain fin raked. There fairly reasonable priced too. I have had a rocket wide off Barron in his flexbar. Was a little too stiff but seemed like solid tech for durability. Super nice guy too. Would probably go Firewire or a PU ci Mid or a thunderbolt over Barron. Cheers

    Just bought a 7'3 sunday not surfed yet, hoping it'll paddle better in smaller stuff than my Skindog Ova which i love but in small shit surf it's hardwork

    • @lawson45uk
      @lawson45uk  Год назад +1

      Appreciate the feedback mate I'm just getting to grips with my ova but it's definitely more refined and pulled in in the tail and a quite a bit less thickness so doesn't surprise me. I have actually been struggling to get into some of the smaller weaker waves too so it's good to know. The Sundays are really thick in the foil. I don't think most mids are ideal for smaller stuff but I'm pretty certain the 7'3"' sunday will be much easier than the ova. I'm actually just glassing up my own board that's similar to a Sunday in proportions but a little wider and not quite as thick and it's more of a propper quad with slider box set up. The fins on the ova are very far forward for quads so seem to be set more with side bites in mind. The sunday we get weak waves and I don't get on with twins so I liked the twins in Smaller stuff and the single is nice once it gets a bit bigger. Suspect the single might be good on the bigger sunday in most surf. I like the Moe a lot too but 7'2" is getting a lot to duck dive and thunderbolts are very expensive so getting the wrong board multiple times is even more painful than Firewire. Let me know how you get on and look out for a review of my own one if your interested. Cheers.
